Idk why everyone is so gung-ho to disbelieve me. Theres NO EXPLANATION for what im seeing other than Google keeping a hint for my IP and it being currently set to "being in Mexico".
Sigh, i guess i wasnt clear enough but i didnt pull the conclusion out of my rear.
Days later, my stationary gaming PC still thinks its in fking Mexico.
Why is the supposed "liberal tech guy" bumping fking shoulders with Ian Miles Chong on a regular basis? I mean, come on. Please, see it for what it is. Ego and populism, through and through and through. Exactly what I told my ex I was freaked out about when he floated this in March. At least Bezos had the sense to keep his hands off the Post.
We need class solidarity (, we desperately need ranked choice voting), and seeing Elon for who he is, would be a great place for us all to start.
But what's frustrating is that this "double-down-at-all-costs" has worked for some at the top recently, and it seems to just be spreading, and spreading to those that don't have the money to escape the embarrassment/cost of repeating doubling down.
I love threads like this, with people furiously voting to try and offset the sinking realization as the cognitive dissonance gets too overwhelming to ignore.
Why is it so plainly obvious to many of us and so god damn impossible for others to see it. Elon is not a genius. You got duped. Just accept it and realize he's a petty tyrant whose ego is exploding. It explains every single thing that has happened, and yet people are so desperate not to accept it.
But again, my gaming PC, which was offline in my apartment in Seattle, has been showing me Mexico/Spanish results in Edge. And my TV, which sits in my apartment in Seattle, is inundated with Spanish ads.
I'm starting to suspect that different Google properties are using different signals, too, which makes this extra confusing.
It's really as if YouTube has modified it's profile of me and said "oh, since he was in Mexico for 2 weeks, he must speak Spanish now" the same way they *infuriatingly* insist on switching my results to Spanish whenever I first landed (which literally was why I started using the VPN).
It's a kafka-esque nightmare of them trying to be smart and absolutely making things harder.
My Public IPv4 is: 198.244.xx.yy
My Public IPv6 is: 2604:4080:redact
My IP Location is: Seattle, WA US
My ISP is: Wave Broadband
Yeah, but I can't. The only way I've seen hinted at doing that is letting my browser share location to Google.com and my desktop Firefox can't estimate my location anyway, on top of the fact that I'm not about to give in and fix this by just arbitrarily granting them access to more data about me.
Especially when they clearly have all of this effort around it, dialogs to try and tell me why it thinks I'm in Mexico and won't just give me a way to tell it where I am.
When I was looking for where to buy an SSD and used "shopping.google.com" earlier, I absolutely could not find how to convince it that I was in Seattle. Ironically, a private browser worked there.
And yet, I literally just sat through 3 spanish ads, again on my unsigned in TV that has been sitting in Seattle for a year.
I think you're absolutely right, it's this myriad of data. But it's frustrating that I /can't just easily override it/.
It's not surprising me, it's baffling me because it's just stupid to do this.
To me, it's absolutely news that Google Maps data can taint my entire IP address across all Google services.
Ultimately, sure, great, I realize Google is going to Google, but this is absolutely not something I've seen discussed previously.
to be clear: my VPN is Tailscale configured to use an exit node running out of the apartment I'm currently sitting in.
Linus did a whole video on it - you have to unplug your laptop, then close it, or risk a serious issue.
Just one example of hoops that Windows users become conditioned to.
Which zenbook? Ill try to find one here to validate explicitly.
Its hard to have these conversations sometimes because people use old versions of meh distros and then carry their anecdotes forward for years.
I literally cannot find a Zenbook on the market that has hardware that should have these issues. I'd really, really like to know what custom kernel patches (really?) you were taking to get hardware to work.
I mean, my laptop doesn't overheat daily in my bag when its booted to Linux, but yeah, Windows is so easy. /s
The faster people stop being surprised, the better. I don't want to be too bold, but it's increasingly obvious that he's in the "double down on everything, at all costs, lest his ego explode" mindset. Interestingly, not terribly dissimilar from some OTHER richy-richy types lately that have lost all touch with public perception.
Countless charlatans have run confidence scams (cons) in the crypto space, accuring money and attention around a centralized platform, in a tech area predicated on decentralized technology.
Living through the MtGox era, watching the corners of the Internet refer to the incident for a decade and then the Shocked Pikachu faces now? I just can't.
I don't care about crypto and "the masses". I invest in things I understand, and it hasn't _burnt_ me yet. I understand crypto and it's unique value prop and it sure as hell doesn't involve investing in or putting my money into a centralized platform. And certainly not one run by the blessed-ilk of Wall Street.
Once again, ever so slight skepticism for the win. It's truly unbelievable the irrationality people engage in when they think they're in on something even when they don't actually understand it!
"The line goes up" is a cautionary tale, and yet I think some folks really missed the whole middle section talking about the psychology that the vultures (NFT, centralized exchanges, etc) are preying upon when chasing explosive growth (or riches, on the other side of the equation).
> and smart contracts don't replace the need for social trust.
idk, a (still relatively) fat stack of crypto sitting on my Ledger would disagree.

As seen in the image, nearly 10 years, never a single issue, and there's not a chance of someone compromising one of my active 2FA options.
Linking to a long form YT video with some gd floating talking head screencasting a Mac, with no text description really just seals the deal.
I don't think money is going to fix the problem at hand, but I suppose I'll extend a similar offer - I'd Western Union cash to you Doreen, if it would help, or help you purchase a good meal so you can regroup/recharge.
