werds··on Computers as I used to love them
I just wanted to say that this personal blog design and format is beautiful

like this guy making a 16x16 recreation of Sonic on pico-8 https://twitter.com/troypicol
werds··on Redwood World – Pictures and Locations of Redwoods in the British Isles
The problem is that nobody has come up with a snappy enough alternative yet. The Good Friday Agreement uses "these islands", I think people find "Britain and Ireland" to be too long winded, what does that leave us with?

Edit: Actually "Anglo-Celtic Isles" works i suppose

werds··on Migadu – No-nonsense multi-domain email at a flat price
Yes the linked article is the opinion of one person. One person with a proven track record of maximising the conversions from landing page visits.
werds··on Migadu – No-nonsense multi-domain email at a flat price
- there is far too much detailed copy above the fold - the copy around the call to action is too vague - there is no example of "what you have now without migadu" versus "with migadu"

in summary it makes it very hard to quickly identify the problem it solves and illustrate how migadu fixes it.

take a look at this article: https://blog.roastmylandingpage.com/landing-page-roasts/

werds··on Migadu – No-nonsense multi-domain email at a flat price
this is the worst landing page i have ever seen for a SaaS product
werds··on ClearURLs – automatically remove tracking elements from URLs
thank you! somebody gets it!
werds··on ClearURLs – automatically remove tracking elements from URLs
I don't see the point in blocking utm_ query string variables? they don't give up any personal information about you, they just help inform the landing site about which channels of marketing are working more effectively than others. This isn't about personal data, removing the UTM codes isnt helping anybody, it just means that the sites don't know where best to spend their money on marketing and ultimately results in seeing more ads in more irrelevant contexts in the future.
werds··on 'Minting' electronic cash (1999)
with your definitions in mind, i think mining is a lot more appropriate, haha
werds··on Show HN: sheet2dict – simple Python XLSX/CSV reader/to dictionary converter
yes. if you are only going to be working with CSV files then this is overkill
werds··on Spy pixels in emails 'have become endemic'
your problem is that you gave them your email address, not that they have tracking pixels in their emails
werds··on Kill the Newsletter – Convert email newsletters into Atom feeds
this guy gets it! the thing which annoys me the most about hacker news comments is the pedantry: "how about stop trying to kill technology you don't like" shhhhh
werds··on The Exclusive Website
my friend... developers are not allowed in
werds··on An alternative to using Google Analytics on your website
all of these alternatives which people are posting: simpleanalytics.com plausible.io are not free, which is the main reason people use Google Analytics
werds··on Radiooooo – The Music Time Machine
Similar online radio station for old (new to you) music discovery: http://vintageobscura.net/
werds··on Tin Found in Israel from 3k Years Ago Comes from Cornwall
unrelated, but what beer-brewing book includes this sort of information?
werds··on Guide to Retargeting Someone Else’s Website
they don't "ban" domains based on this policy. they just don't make their cookies available to the cross origin requests as per the ITP browser changes: https://clearcode.cc/blog/intelligent-tracking-prevention/#I...

so Firefox and Chrome are making changes which basically limit the effectiveness of this technique.

werds··on Show HN: Tiny, fast, and free API to geolocate IP addresses
what does it cost you to keep this up and running?
werds··on AI Clones Your Voice After Listening for 5 Seconds (2018)
Anybody else notice how that Scottish male reference voice sounds considerably more English in the synthesized versions.
werds··on National Park Typeface
love this free font, also an honorable mention to Optician Sans: https://optician-sans.com/ which is a free font based on the classic eye test letter cards from opticians offices.
werds··on Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements (1908)
I have not been this impressed for quite some time.
werds··on Harper Lee's Lost True Crime Book
what happened to Harry H Corbett?
werds··on Web Design 3.0: When Your Web Design Matters
While I realise this is essentially marketing for Nicepage, the article is very good. The templates here https://nicepage.com/templates are mainly informative sites like portfolios, restaurants, dental practises etc.. It is going to be a while before the typical functional ecommerce sites we use use everyday adopt a more creative approach. It is just too much of a risk to present a user with an unusual design and a learning curve. When you just want users to part with their cash, the site needs to be as predictable as possible.
werds··on Teardown: Casper’s Clever Little Nightlight
pisses me of so much with car parts. I don't want my floor mats to say WeatherTech on them! they are just floor mats, i don't want to know about them.
werds··on This person does not exist
i never miss an opportunity to link to this wonderful startup generator http://tiffzhang.com/startup/
werds··on Social networks are no longer social
Surprised that he doesn't mention Reddit, where the lost communities he described certainly do exist and thrive.
werds··on Coinbase is launching support for the USDC stablecoin
I'm pretty sure a company like Coinbase which is worth $1.6 Billion did their due diligence on the legalities.
