welder··on Utah becomes first US state to ban fluoride in its water
One of the many reasons I left the USA. Too bad US-Americans are so used to tipping 20% they even do it when traveling... giving the rest of us a reputation as being suckers.
welder··on Balcony solar is taking off
Here's a company a friend started for balcony solar in Germany:

welder··on VSCode Marketplace Web Pages No Longer Allow Direct VSIX Downloads
The clones never used Microsoft's marketplace, most comments here are misinformed or falsely assuming malicious intent. Classic HN
welder··on VSCode Marketplace Web Pages No Longer Allow Direct VSIX Downloads
They just changed a web UI to no longer have a download button but you can still download all extension versions:

https://www.gallery.vsassets.io/_apis/public/gallery/publish...

The download button is still available inside vscode and Cursor never used the marketplace anyway. So many commenters are getting worked up over nothing. No malicious intent here, just classic HN jumping to the wrong conclusion.

How do I dump a list of installed app identifiers to cross reference with the list of apps selling this data? [0]

ProductHunt has over 300k products [0], why only look at 76k (25%) of them?

welder··on Ask HN: Why buy domains and 301 redirect them to me?
I'll add another scenario I've personally experienced:

- Reaching out in good-faith with an offer to sell the domain to you. I've had that happen in the past and before receiving the email the person directed the domain to my official website to show good will. I purchased the domain and now own it.

Not saying this is the case here, but just wanted to throw a legitimate scenario into the mix. They should have reached out by now if this was the case.

welder··on iTerm2 critical security release
The latter condition must not always trigger... I have Python 3.7 or later and none of my servers have a `/tmp/framer.txt` file.
welder··on iTerm2 critical security release
I have Python 3.7 or later installed on my default search path, but after checking none of my servers have a `/tmp/framer.txt` file.
welder··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2025)
I use your cloud logging product. Because of your clean tailwind UI, I thought if my company fails I would apply to work at yours... until I saw you're using Vue instead of React :P

P.S. Discovered you via DigitalOcean's App Platform settings, but they still call you 'Logtail'.

welder··on I automated my job application process
What do you think of https://wonderful.dev? You get notifications when candidates are interested in your jobs, then you can choose to reach out to the ones you want to apply.
welder··on Ask HN: Is ChatGPT down?
How do you input/upload an engineering schematic or cad file into chatgpt pro-mode? Even with a higher context window, how does the context of your project get into chatgpt?

welder··on How Bad Is Link Rot?
Then a better title would have been:

How Bad Is Link Rot on brainbaking.com?

welder··on How Bad Is Link Rot at Brain Baking?
@dang Please change the title to: How Bad Is Link Rot

The Brain Baking part is so confusing, it's just the name of the blog and provides no added info.

welder··on Ask HN: Programmers who don't use autocomplete/LSP, how do you do it?
Same here, code completion just gets in the way and messes up what I was already planning to type.

But I DO use jump-to-definition in Vim and other editors. IMO LSP has been an amazing productivity boost just by that one feature.

welder··on Show HN: Mizu.js – Lightweight HTML templating library for any-side rendering
I've been using React templating lately, then you get a lot of cool features like Tailwind and can even use React for your email templates:

https://react.email/docs/introduction

It helps me ship faster when I use the same stack everywhere. I even ported my background task library to TypeScript so to keep the stack the same:

welder··on Fractional Jobs – Job Board for Fractional Work

welder··on Show HN: HackerNews-new-jobs – insights into fresh and recurring job ads
I didn't realize freelancer jobs go to a different HN post `Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer?` Makes sense now, because the job I noticed missing was a freelance post.
welder··on Show HN: HackerNews-new-jobs – insights into fresh and recurring job ads
This is awesome! But it's missing at least one company from 2024-08. Maybe a parsing error? Or does it exclude hiring freelance/contract posts?
welder··on Weak pointers in Go: why they matter now
Also have to watch out for nil pointer dereferencing:

welder··on FTC takes action against Gravy Analytics, Venntel for selling location data
> The companies can retain historic location data if they ensure that it is deidentified or rendered non-sensitive or if consumers consented to the use of their data.

They left a loophole, sounds like nothing will change.
