wedowhatwedo··on Serial Port SDR
He connected an antenna to it. That's what makes it illegal.
wedowhatwedo··on Tell HN: Sendgrid increases price by almost 50%, weeks after acquisition
How much time will it take to find an alternative? If it takes an hour, you've spent way more than $60.
wedowhatwedo··on The faster you unlearn OOP, the better for you and your software
Why is color of a car an issue with OOP? Without knowing your the use cases, neither of us will model it correctly for the job at hand.

A car obviously has multiple colors. It has at least two: exterior and interior. Quite often there are two-tone colors. But as a manufacturer, I'm going to guess that each interior and exterior color scheme has an ID. If you are a car manufacturer, the interior and exterior color scheme ID would be all you need.

wedowhatwedo··on Redbird: A modern reverse proxy for Node
I have used apache since version 1.0 came out. I have never needed to modify the code.

If you use this logic, you would not be able to run Linux because it is written in C, correct?

wedowhatwedo··on Show HN: I wrote a BASIC interpreter in Go
His first program he wrote as a professional was a payroll program. Altair BASIC came later.
wedowhatwedo··on Show HN: A new protocol for packet radio including ECDSA and compression
That's what this project does. It does signing, just not encryption. I would argue that this is OK legally.
wedowhatwedo··on Show HN: A new protocol for packet radio including ECDSA and compression
Yes, if encryption was permitted, there would be a ton of interest...by commercial companies. Non-licensed users would out number licensed ones by huge amounts. It would put an end to amateur radio.
wedowhatwedo··on Microsoft Closes US Surface Factory, Moves Production to China
It isn't mentioned in the article, because the Trump tariffs didn't exist when the article was written.
wedowhatwedo··on How California campuses are fixing the problem of pricey college books
It's possible but what happens often now is the professor is getting paid twice. Paid sabbatical and bonus money for the book. If the University was doing it, they wouldn't pay a person twice for one job. At least that's how my university would view it. Also, I'm not sure if a professor gets much credit from the University toward tenure for writing a book. Because of this, if there is no money involved, I doubt many professor's would do it. They do it for the money only right now.
wedowhatwedo··on How California campuses are fixing the problem of pricey college books
That's good in theory, but what currently happens is a professor takes a fully paid sabbatical and writes the book for a publishing company. That company sells the book to students for $300 a copy and pays the professor $50 a copy (with a possible sizable amount up front). The professor and friends of the professor requires it for their classes.

The friction that prevents your plan from happening is that the professors won't do it for so cheap. There is a ton of money they can make under the current system.

wedowhatwedo··on Why the U.S. Spends So Much More Than Other Nations on Health Care
A year ago, I would have agreed with you because all examples of Religion I saw were like that. They provided help with strings attached. They did things to make sure non-members followed the rules of their religion.

I found about a Unitarian Universalist church in my area and now am considering joining.

In contrast to other religions I've seen, the UU church welcomes everyone no matter their background or who they love. The church I attend has a reproductive task force that helps pregnant women and new moms no matter what they have decided to do with the pregnancy. There is a group that goes to Planned Parenthood in my city to protect women from the protesters. They by diapers for mothers with no money to buy them. They will give rides to doctor appointments for those that need them but can't afford them. They strongly believe we need more sex education and free birth control and that if we have those the need for abortion will be greatly reduced.

So please don't cast your net so widely.

wedowhatwedo··on A visual ARM emulator
Download the mac version. It's a zip file. Look in Contents/MacOS. You'll find the jar there.
wedowhatwedo··on The sorry state of OpenSSL usability
It's funny to me when people complain about something they get for free. There are at least two solutions to this problem and neither of them are writing a blog to complain about the work that someone else has done and given a way for free.

You could write some documentation and give it to them. Or you could pay someone to write it for the project.

The author seems to know quite a bit about OpenSSL/LibreSSL. I'd think writing up a bit of documentation for it would be a win for everyone. Writing a blog complaining that the authors haven't done it and given it away for free is not.

wedowhatwedo··on Insomnia REST Client
I don't have administrative rights on my work Mac. I tried to install via brew. Got this:

Moving App 'Insomnia.app' to '/Applications/Insomnia.app'. Password:

I can't find the app anywhere after sudo gave up because I don't have rights. I did get this nice message though:

  insomnia was successfully installed!
wedowhatwedo··on Humble Book Bundle, Start a Startup by Wiley
The page says this: "Read them anywhere. These books are available in PDF and ePUB formats, meaning you can read them anywhere at any time. The Four Lenses of Innovation and Startup Weekend are also available in MOBI format."
wedowhatwedo··on Effective Programs: 10 Years of Clojure
But we still have teams spend endless amounts of time debating on which flavor of Javascript, where the braces go, or which NPM module is the most effective.
wedowhatwedo··on Chevy Bolt: the First Practical, Mass-Market Electric Vehicle
I have driven my Volt on many 500+ mile trips using the battery at first then the gas engine to generate electricity for the wheels. I'm still alive and all my passengers are still alive.

My 2012 Volt has had no recalls. It's been in the shop 3 times since I bought it in 2012. Two were for oil changes and one was a regular check up. That's it. I haven't been to a gas station in around 6 months (because I haven't had any really long trips in this car during that time).

It's fun to say all cars are bad because a few are bad, but it sure isn't accurate.

wedowhatwedo··on Sublime Text 3.0
https://github.com/guillermooo/Vintageous

"Vintageous has been discontinued."

I wouldn't blame the problem you had on Sublime. I can start up Sublime with all my plugins, press '{' and it works as expected.

wedowhatwedo··on Converting a Guitar Effects Pedal to Output MIDI
Each midi note on and off always sends both pitch and velocity.

The first byte tells you it is a note on or note off and the MIDI channel, the second byte tells you the pitch and the third byte tells you the velocity.

wedowhatwedo··on Why Shopify doesn't kick Breitbart off
Is Breitbart's store a private communication or is it public communication?

Email and phone conversations are private communication. Breitbart is public communication. There is a difference.

wedowhatwedo··on [dead]
The only way Trump will find this out is if it is reported on Fox news. That seems to be how he gets all his information.

I searched the web site and it doesn't appear to be there.

wedowhatwedo··on A ghostly radio station that no one claims to run
As the article says, just because you couldn't hear it the one time you tried, doesn't mean it isn't transmitting. You hearing it depends on the condition of the ionosphere. The time of day, the number of sunspots along with other things will effect your reception of the signal.
wedowhatwedo··on Kite telemetry code in Sublime package SideBarEnhancements
I modified the Stats.py file in the SideBarEnhancements.sublime-package on my computer to remove the line that references this IP address. I also made the file read-only so it won't get updated. Does anyone know if that will take care of the issue on my computer for now?
wedowhatwedo··on Passwords Evolved: Authentication Guidance for the Modern Era
Not the current OAuth. It is different for each provider. The standard isn't strict enough. I have to write something special each implementation I want to use. The standard needs to be modified so every implementation works exactly the same way - then I'd say OAuth would be a good potential solution.
wedowhatwedo··on Airbnb host must pay $5,000 for canceling reservation based on race

wedowhatwedo··on How I didn't become a SoundClouder

wedowhatwedo··on Why Is It So Hard to Study Marijuana?
Anybody who believes that the only way to ingest Marijuana involves smoke is also fooling themselves.
wedowhatwedo··on Ask HN: Do you feel fulfilled with your work?
What are examples of jobs that don't align with your moral/ideological compass?

You probably shouldn't get all your fulfillment in life from a job. You need to find fulfillment in things you control. Giving so much power to something you can't control will cause you lots of pain in your life.
