webtopf··on Lon Lat Lon Lat
Whenever I worked with lat/lon pairs in the past I stumbled over those issues at some point. That's why at my last startup we used Geohashes everywhere. It's one string and so much more convenient to handle. There are libraries to convert from Geohashes to lat/lon pairs for every platform for those times you need them. You can even shorten them when accuracy isn't needed or you'd like to group similar locations.

I had the pleasure of finding that same behaviour in an application around 2015. When someone commented on a food order "Extra cheese please :folded hands: but no shrimp, I'm allergic."

But one thing I haven't found out is why some emojis did go through. The basic ones like a simple  it seemed to me. Could it be that some only need 3 bytes and when more and more emojis got released, they went into 4 bytes?

Edit: HN stripped the emojis from my comment... I would put a rolling eyes emoji here if I could.

It works the other way around too. As a manager, when some of my employees sent me messages like: "Can we talk when you have some time?" One of my immediate fears was that they are quitting because he found another job.

That happened only once, the other 300 times it was just about something they were working on and needed more information.
