webjunkie··on The Service Recovery Paradox
Okay, everyone invent some service failures!
webjunkie··on The Incredible Click Rate of Nothing
I'm curious: On which platforms can I buy links targeted to "late at night"?
webjunkie··on Show HN: My weekend project using the Soundcloud API
Same issue for me! Unusable without volume control.
webjunkie··on What's with this anti-directory structure movement?
I think at some point Apple will sell us "folders within folders" as a gorgeous update that took so long to really get it right.
webjunkie··on Europe Joins The Talent Wars
Wow. 180k. Where can I apply?
webjunkie··on Is Berlin the new home for tech start-up business? [video]
Home for start-up business? Yes. For tech start-ups? I don't think so. I have yet to meet one engineer-driven tech start-up from Berlin. Most founders I met and know are some business guys with oh-so-clever ideas looking for just the right CTO guy to make their plan reality. And most German developers I know also never thought about working for a start-up. They happily flock to every large German company you may know. The previous start-up I worked for had more Spanish developers than German ones.
webjunkie··on Living with HTTPS
Do StartSSL certificates even work on every browser by default?
webjunkie··on Here’s to the PHP Misfits
"Everything in the box is kind of weird and quirky, but maybe not enough to make it completely worthless. And there’s no clear problem with the set as a whole; it still has all the tools.

Now imagine you meet millions of carpenters using this toolbox who tell you “well hey what’s the problem with these tools? They’re all I’ve ever used and they work fine!” And the carpenters show you the houses they’ve built, where every room is a pentagon and the roof is upside-down. And you knock on the front door and it just collapses inwards and they all yell at you for breaking their door. "

webjunkie··on Dear Marissa Mayer...please make Flickr awesome again
Why?
webjunkie··on SOPA architect now pushing for “IP Attaché” legislation
This makes me sick!
webjunkie··on Pay Too Much for everything
One has to differentiate. There are things that are worth to have once and for life. But most things I gladly buy cheap - because I know I can dispose them later and not a fortune is lost. What If I spend much money on fashionable things that I like, but dislike in 2 years? I rather swap out most of my cheap stuff over the years rather than worry what will last longest and if I might still like it and so on.
webjunkie··on How Amazon’s ambitious new push for same-day delivery will destroy local retail
In Germany, when you order in the morning before noon, you will most likely get your stuff by the next morning without any special shipping at all. That's how efficient the German postal service is :)
webjunkie··on Paid Vacation? That’s Not Cool. You Know What’s Cool? Paid, Paid Vacation.
Maybe you tell other Greeks to pay taxes again.
webjunkie··on Engineering management is dying
"200-person projects headed by an Engineer"

If you have 200-person projects and still call them projects, you're doing it wrong.

webjunkie··on How we chose and furnished an office the Y Combinator way
Seriously? Put most tables facing the wall? Who wants to look at a wall and have no screen privacy?
webjunkie··on Brackets: The Open Source Code Editor for the Web
If you find the CSS live preview stuff cool, check out http://cssrefresh.frebsite.nl/ It's awesome. Even with complicated, nested templates and CSS stuff.
webjunkie··on Learn to Code in 3 Months—or Less
I think you just offended a lot of people with CS degrees that call themselves web application developers or do that kind of stuff.
webjunkie··on Ask HN: 45 Dutch students are visiting Berlin. Can we visit your startup?
That seems to be a bad idea as most Germans will not be working from May 17 to 20... and I don't know if the hackers and startup-workoholics actually can resist having one, two or more beers for Herrentag/Vatertag :)
webjunkie··on Log Everything as JSON. Make Your Life Easier.
Compressing logs that are being written to? Never heard of that...
webjunkie··on Log Everything as JSON. Make Your Life Easier.
Okay, and as soon as I switch to JSON, I have not just 5 million referrers logged per day, I also have 5 million times the word "referrer" in my log. Nice.
webjunkie··on Repository Structure and Python
For Django I like to do

    django-useful-app/
      setup.py
      ...
      useful_app/
        __init.py
        ..
webjunkie··on Try right clicking GitHub's logo
Maybe it's also useful to sync this settings to the Mac App and possibly other apps... an email every time it gets changed would also be useful, in case someone with your login decides to change it. And finally, in teams one should be able to control which member can change this setting for himself, and which not, and the team lead can also set a default what should happen on the right click.. Yeah, that's it.
webjunkie··on RESTful thinking considered harmful
"The RESTful thinker may design both the payment of an order and the shipping of an order both as updates"

Maybe this thinker got it wrong. How about POST /orders/42/payment to create a payment object?

webjunkie··on The time displayed on most Android phones is wrong
I'm running Cyanogen... so at least for me it's not fixed.
webjunkie··on The time displayed on most Android phones is wrong
Check http://time.is/ in your phone's browser. My Android is 1 minute fast :(
webjunkie··on A Pinterest spammer tells all
First of all: They believe a screenshot to prove identity?

I could've faked that in 10 seconds with Firebug and then told them I make like $10,000 a day with my super hardcore h4ck0r bots and the would have believed it I guess.

webjunkie··on iOS push notifications (APNS): some security considerations
Ugh, this guy got APNS wrong. An app never needs to register a device with Apple. It's not Apple who sends something, it's still the developer via APNS.
webjunkie··on I'm looking for a few cofounders to apply to YC. Working on something huge.
Oh really. You have the idea, you "just need" a developer and some biz guy?
webjunkie··on Dropping Prices Again-- EC2, RDS, EMR and ElastiCache
We actually get 10 TB included... :)
webjunkie··on Who is hiring? (Intern Edition)
If you want to code Python in Berlin, Germany, have a look at http://www.freshmilk.de
