wattson12··on Ask HN: What are your top tips for leading a software development team?
http://randsinrepose.com, who wrote Managing Humans[http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159059844X?ie=UTF8&tag=beig...] (not updated all that often but good content usually)
wattson12··on No social support for airnnb app?
iOS app has a share button top right when viewing a property, options for Facebook, twitter, email and SMS
wattson12··on Cheaper to rent in Barcelona and commute to London
how many people would look at this commute (at least 3-4 hours each way) and think its doable?
wattson12··on Poll: Where are you currently living?
The poll says Australasia, which includes Papua New Guinea (pop 7.4M), the rest would be from the smaller island nations I guess
wattson12··on How do you deploy beta testing versions your iOS apps?
The only other option you have as far as I know is enterprise development, but for that all testers need to be employees of your company
wattson12··on How do you deploy beta testing versions your iOS apps?
yes the build still needs to be signed for each user
wattson12··on Ask HN Air or Pro?
I have a 2012 13" air (i7, 8gb ram) at home and I use a 15" pro (2.3i7, 16g ram) for work. The screen on the pro is amazing, as is the speed (as you'd expect given those specs). I use a cinema display at the office but can work just as well on the laptop screen (my work is coding, so Xcode most of the day) and haven't found anything that caused the pro to struggle (I've not noticed any UI lag either).

That said, I still love (and probably slightly prefer) the air because its so small and light (ergonomically i prefer a 13" laptop), and the difference in power for most tasks is not that big (though its definitely noticeable when using Xcode on the air). If you took them both away and told me to get one, I'd get the air again.

wattson12··on Ask HN: the northern European Edens (Finland, Norway, Sweden)?
according to http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/briefing-book/background/numb..., the US has one of the lowest tax rates, while scandinavian countries are all towards the high end of the list

There is definitely an issue of how much money is distributed to welfare / infrastructure / education etc compared to military but the lower tax rate means there is less to spend to begin with (per capita at least)

wattson12··on My Journey Starts Here
Looking forward to updates on this. Your position sounds pretty close to mine (iOS developer, expat, northern europe) except I require sponsorship to work so haven't been able to try my hand at full time freelance work.

good luck

wattson12··on Show HN: ShotBlocker - iOS screenshot detector a la Snapchat/Poke
iOS gives no access to these buttons. It looks as though this code just polls the photo library and checks if a new photo was created.

There was a different version going around earlier which checked for touches being disabled, which happens during a screenshot (but this not the only time iOS does this, I know it happens during the standard navigation "push" animation, and wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few other standard system actions which disable touches)

wattson12··on Ask HN: What helps you produce code faster?
its old Simpsons episodes for me. Ones I have seen so many times I could quote every scene, if I have something on in the background that I don't know as well I'll be very distracted
wattson12··on Life as a Service
Ive been through quite a few customs on leaving a country, typically when there is a fixed time limit you are allowed to stay on certain visas
wattson12··on Show HN: Properties to rent - No agent fees, no dead listings, no risk
This is a great point. I'm looking for a 1 bed place in London at the moment. I don't mind a studio, but showing flat shares when I have put a maximum of 1 bedroom in the filter is very annoying (looking at you, rightmove)
wattson12··on Building an app does not make you a startup
strange since his company seems targeted at app developers. Although I'm not sure how many people are going to pay for components which have open source equivalents (all the iOS components on the advertisement site I looked at do, except for maybe the PDF kit)
wattson12··on Plagiarism of my open source app ChatSecure
According to Matt Gemmell's twitter (http://twitter.com/mattgemmell/status/235302914258792448) this morning the same seller had taken his open source split view library, stripped the author name from the header and removed the licence file.

It may not be the case for this library (given that he didn't need to under this licence) but it does suggest its possible.
