waterside81··on Show HN: Simple CRM and Sales Automation
That doesn't strike me as being entirely true, unless I misunderstand your needs? Hubspot does this - my sales guys send emails via Google, I see everything in Hubspot. Prior to Hubspot we used Close.io - same thing. Every email sent (and every reply) showed up in Close.io in the context of the contact(s).

As for IMAP tags etc. - yes I've never seen that. Although you can probably use Streak for that (streak.com)

waterside81··on Companies that are avoiding hiring in Colorado
You're right. It's kind of like marijuana legalization. The feds refused to but it's almost become defacto law of the land when enough states do it themselves.
waterside81··on Companies that are avoiding hiring in Colorado
Yeah these labor related laws really need to be administered federally to be effective.
waterside81··on GoDaddy is cutting off Texas Right to Life’s abortion ‘whistleblowing’ website
Your clarification is important and I've seen all too often these past few days a critical misunderstanding of the case. The baker offered the couple any other cake in the shop and offered to bake any cake they wanted - other than one specifically for a gay wedding.
waterside81··on Replay-based attack on Honda and Acura vehicles
Yup. A Land Rover was stolen right near my house in broad daylight and I live in a very good neighbourhood. Cops came by and asked me if I had home cameras, but they explained to me this is very common. High-end SUVs are targeted and this is run by organized crime. Cars are overseas within days to be re-sold.

The thief just hangs around the target, waits for the fob to be used, clones the signal and can steal the car within 3 minutes.

The problem is so pervasive that Land Rover offers discounts to previous customers who are victims of theft:

Can someone explain to me why this wasn't the case before covid? Are the companies who are ahead of the automakers "in line" ordering more than before covid?

waterside81··on Launch HN: HomeBreeze (YC W21) – Easy booking of home repairs
I’ve used a similar app (Jiffy) and it’s awesome. Payment is fixed hourly and goes through the app so no money is exchanged with the contractor. Got my dishwasher fixed next day no problem.

Good luck guys it’s a good market to be in

I'm on FF 89 on macOS and see the same thing. I right-click a footer link and it takes me to the link while briefly seeing the context menu.
waterside81··on Evaluating necessity of Covid-19 vaccination in previously infected individuals
For those fortunate to be able to work from home during this pandemic, as I'll guess most on HN can & do, I'm very curious how they're getting it assuming they:

a) Just go to the store and back wearing a mask while indoors b) Spend most of their leisure time outdoors - because what else can you do?

I haven't been holed up this whole time. I'm outside multiple times every day (dog walks, kids playground etc.) and I don't know anyone who works in a factory, meat processing plant, hospital etc. hence my curiosity how people think they're getting it.

waterside81··on Evaluating necessity of Covid-19 vaccination in previously infected individuals
Hey I'm curious, if you don't mind sharing, how do you think you got it? Throughout this whole pandemic, I'm still kind of amazed how people are getting it

waterside81··on Ask HN: Does anyone else find the AWS Lambda developer experience frustrating?
You're not alone. I've had this exact experience so much so, that we stopped using AWS Lambda, and switched to using the the various Amazon API calls individually and gluing together a pipeline using a job queue.

It's just so slow to debug and develop on AWS Lambda

waterside81··on Israel may have destroyed Iranian centrifuges simply by cutting power

waterside81··on String length functions for single emoji characters evaluate to greater than 1
I like how Go handles this case by providing the utf8.DecodeRune/utf8.DecodeRuneInString functions which return each individual "rune" as well as the size in code points.

Coming from python2, for me it was the first time I saw a language handle unicode so gracefully.

What do you mean by "take liquidity ahead of a large order" and "adding liquidity in a narrow range"?
waterside81··on Launch HN: Finley (YC W21) – Debt capital monitoring and reporting software
This sounds like exactly the right formula for startup success:

1) People with experience in a given industry

2) People who have seen the problem over & over again

3) Large businesses with lots of money but lacking in skill/will to automate the solution themselves

4) Outsider comes and says "hey we can automate that really boring problem for you save you money"

Please remember this comment when you get acquired for tons in a few years.

Hey - thanks for making Hugo. We run our blog on it and I love it. Spitting out an AMP version and maintaing it side-by-side with our non-AMP version was a piece of cake.

Edit: noticed you make Cobra too! Damn - I owe you like 1000 man hours of saved work.

waterside81··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2021)
Repustate | Toronto / REMOTE | Software engineers | $100-150K

Repustate (repustate.com) is a text analytics company in Toronto. We provide NLP services in multiple languages to businesses & governments worldwide. We're looking to hire a number of developers with expertise in one or more of the following:

- NLP/AI/ML

- Go

- Django/Python

- Javascript

- Docker

The more of those checkboxes you can tick, the better. We're based in Toronto and preference is given to Canadians, but if you've got the skills, then remote is fine anywhere in the world. Obviously preference is to being in a timezone as close to GMT-5 as possible.

Our interview process is very simple:

- quick zoom call, discuss past work & future interests

- small programming assignment in either Go or Python

- job offer

No white board interview, no algorithm tests etc.

We're bootstrapped, but highly profitable and growing.

Please email your github link, past projects or anything else you think would help to jobs@repustate.com and mention this link on HN.

waterside81··on Memory access on the Apple M1 processor
For people who know more about this stuff than me: are these sorts optimizations only possible because Apple controls the whole stack and can make the hardware & OS/software perfectly match up with one another or is this something that Intel can do but doesn't for some reasons (tradeoffs)?
