wasmainiac··on Sometimes powerful people just do dumb shit
This sounds like a big whataboutism, or at least oversimplification. The opposite of individualistic society could be western socialism.

> Religious out groups, ethnic out groups, cultural out groups.

Yeah, unfortunately seen this on all corners of the political spectrum, hidden or not.

wasmainiac··on Sometimes powerful people just do dumb shit
Sure people worry regardless. If it’s not A it’s B. Im talking about societies for example that ignore homeless and poverty, vs societies that have social welfare systems at the expense of high tax rates.
wasmainiac··on Sometimes powerful people just do dumb shit
> The truth is all of us treat our fellow humans this way.

Nah, I think it is more common of a cultural thing in individualistic societies. I know plenty of people who are worried about the future outlook of others they have never met. For example what phones and social media is doing to our children, or the state of the economy for young people.

wasmainiac··on I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack
Right? I’m not buying it. Seems like personal PR post.

Why care so much about so little operating costs when your earning so much?

> They could use AGPL or GPL3, typically those licenses are verboten in hyperscalers.

Laws are only as good as their enforcement, in business at least. Unfortunately I have seen first hand that no one cares about licensing if they can’t get caught.

Businesses licenses are good because you can offer support and other benefits to encourage payment.

wasmainiac··on The Cognitive Dark Forest
I’m sorry. Why are we talking about Black neighbourhoods?

Feel like we are trying to put the author in a bad (racist or classists?) light so we do not have to address the real issues touched on by the article.

wasmainiac··on Labor market impacts of AI: A new measure and early evidence
Because its failure rate is too high. Beyond boilerplate code and CRUD apps, if I let AI run freely on the projects I maintain, I spend more time fixing its changes than if I just did it myself. It hallucinates functionally, it designs itself into corners, it does not follow my instructions, it writes too much code for simple features.

It’s fine at replacing what stack overflow did nearly a decade ago, but that isn’t really an improvement from my baseline.

wasmainiac··on A new California law says all operating systems need to have age verification
I agree, I don’t like it as much as you do. I’m just saying nothing short of a mandated TPM will actually enforce this. I think they know that.

I think this is mostly for show to stay relevant wrt. What is happening in the courts. This is the Same play as it always been for registration “are you over the age of 13?”

wasmainiac··on A new California law says all operating systems need to have age verification
Does not require verification, no biggie, this is essentially a parental control system.
wasmainiac··on Scaling AI for Everyone
> More than 9 million paying business users rely on ChatGPT for work

That’s a stretch. Sure many business _use_ OpenAI, but that does not an operational necessity. Especially given the competition.

wasmainiac··on Will vibe coding end like the maker movement?
I also think it is often momentum from “do you have a GitHub” questions you see in hiring.

There are many people who code to make cool stuff and enjoy sharing, but there is even more people who code to look good on CV.

I’m not trying to be mean, this is just an anecdote I had from my time hiring.

wasmainiac··on Large-Scale Online Deanonymization with LLMs
Is that not already the case on mainstream social media? HN even has bots.
wasmainiac··on The First Fully General Computer Action Model
Can it defeat captchas?
wasmainiac··on Large-Scale Online Deanonymization with LLMs
Could another mitigation be polluting identities online with fake ones so that real identities become hard to sift out.

For example if I tell my bot to clone me 100x times on all my platforms, all with different facts or attributes, suddenly the real me becomes a lot harder to select. Or any attribute of mine at all becomes harder to corroborate.

I hate to use this reference, but like the citadel from Rick and Morty.

wasmainiac··on My lobster lost $450k this weekend
It’s at best a staged pr stunt, at worst a pump and dump scheme.

Money is probably going circular, it’s not real.

wasmainiac··on My lobster lost $450k this weekend
This feels like a big PR stunt. Published by a ai tech bro, highly ambiguous, hard to verify, where’s the money going? Sounds great as a headline.

Edit: Just looked into timeline, it does not add up.

Same question, this is not the first time I’ve seen random 's.

I think it’s a bot, look at the post history with the weird repetitive hyphens.

Not everything has to be symmetrical. I’m sure there is a name for that logical fallacy.

That’s fine, static objects can be integrated in to sequences if each unit has enough positional accuracy.

My point is that if you interrupt the sequence by pushing it over or standing in front of it, the unit will not be able to recover or mitigate the issue. I’m not sure about the models in the video but they should enter a safe state, hopefully gracefully.

wasmainiac··on Martial arts robots at 2026 Spring Festival Gala [video]
It’s not a 1:1 human motion capture to servo translation. There is some work done to fix Center of gravity like you said and issues with friction and momentum.

The hard part with “autonomy” is interpretation of the environment and feeding that back into some control loop to accomplish a goal in real time. That is why most of these demos are basically recordings of movements, like choreography.

wasmainiac··on AI is destroying open source, and it's not even good yet
That’s not pair programming as I use it. Pair programming is where two people work on the same code directly and bounce ideas or critique each other.

If I do something that is not ideal the other person will catch me, and I do the same in return. I kinda see it like rock climbing.
