warseph··on Service Objects (No More Fat Models)
Too bad not that many people seem to do this. Fat models are increasingly difficult to maintain on large scale projects, yet most developers are encouraged to go that way when they start learning rails, and many don't ever realize how problematic this can be in the long run.
warseph··on Argentina's Currency Black Market
In Argentina the Big Mac's price is actually regulated by the government (http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2012/05/01/why_big_macs_... the prices shown in that menu are about double now, except for the big mac, which is still ~30 pesos). Just another example of how much our government controls metrics here. I'm surprised the same thing doesn't happen in Venezuela, though, as Cristina Fernandez seems to have copied almost her entire "economy model" from Chavez's.
warseph··on Prismatic launches a full redesign and shares their awesome design process
It's a fine article, but the blog could use a bit of UX tweaking too. I have no idea what prismatic is, and the lack of a link to their homepage from their own blog seems like an obvious flaw, which i've seen really often in most website/startups blogs.
warseph··on Did Google+ Hangout just kill Skype video?
As everything in Google+ you can choose a Circle, all your Circles, your Extended Circle, or just choose contact by contact, I think it's definitely a Skype killer :)
warseph··on Lessons from Argentina's Crazy Economy
My 2 cents :) The article gets right both the inflation and the corruption problems in Argentina. However, it seems to be a bit biased, as it shows only one real case of success and several failures, and the fact that one of the interviewees is the son of a former Minister of Economy of Argentina (Domingo Cavallo), whose economical model was the main cause of the 2001 crisis, which the author seems to have forgotten to mention in the article. I've worked in both argentinean and US founded companies here in Argentina, and the reality, at least from my experience, is that the economic environment isn't as hostile as the article describes. I've been in companies that made millions (dollars, btw) and I've also seen some that lost everything (specially in the 2001 crisis), but the truth is Argentina is a cheap country for investment and with a lot of highly qualified man power. I have to agree, investing in Argentina is kind of a bet, and making your company work well involves a lot of work, but, specially if your objective is to export the product/service, it might provide an awesome ROI.
warseph··on Why I get my entertainment via BitTorrent
I saw it in several games in Direct2Drive, (this games had the same restrictions in other online stores). I don't think is fraud though, as the same site sells other games to Argentina. This is what direct2drive says on the matter: Why are some games "country restricted" ? This is a limitation set by either the game developer or the internet distribution laws your country. We have to abide by both of their wishes.
warseph··on Why I get my entertainment via BitTorrent
Same thing happens in Argentina, I tried some times to buy certain games online, but for some weird reason for digital content, the purchased is limited to the US and Mexico. Why does this limitation even exist for digital content?
