In Apple's defense, it is still two of those things. (No longer slow though!)
I’m really hoping that this will be the push needed to make ActivityPub social networking go mainstream.
While I'm really looking forward to is being able to follow Threads users with any Mastodon client.
(No one wants to have products shipped from scammy sellers, Facebook, please stop making that the default search option.)
I just hope they can fix their numerous server issues before they miss their window of opportunity.
Remember when Google was cool?
That's right, if only the Lemmy devs understood the impending glorious revolution that shall throw off the yoke of the bourgeoisie, they would definitely prioritize their onboarding flow.

At this point, I would still argue that moving to Lemmy is the best option. Some subreddits have moved to Discord, but it's just as proprietary as Reddit, and has the added downside of being a chat room. One can of course stay on Reddit itself, but I suspect Reddit's CEO probably isn't going to start making reasonable decisions anytime soon.
Like, do you want big tech to control all AI tech? Meta releasing Llama was much better than the alternative.
True, though the Mastodon compatibility is a bit iffy at the moment; they use ActivityPub in sufficiently different ways that it's not really possible to meaningfully access a Lemmy community via a Mastodon client, for example. I believe if it works at all, you'll basically just see a firehose of comments/posts.
They both run OSS Reddit clones and appear to be gaining the most traction. As a bonus, they're also interoperable with each other, and any other server that installs the software.
> As Reddit flexes its control, it’s playing a risky game ahead of its long-gestating IPO. Even though many third-party apps will likely go away, Reddit’s attitude toward the users that have made it into the giant that it is could harm the platform more than any apps ever did.
Personally, I think the cost of college should be capped, and in addition all forms of student loans should be outright banned, which should force the education industry to cut itself back to a reasonable amount of spending.
Being able to code in multiple VR monitors while traveling actually sounds like a good potential use case that Apple has locked themselves out of with their crippled OS.
It literally has the same SoC as my MacBook, but is basically useless for most productive activities I’d like to do with it. (And even goes slower at the tasks it can do!) It really highlights just how awful iPadOS is compared to MacOS.
Right, but those connections never would have happened anyway if they never supported XMPP, so by killing it they just reverted to the status quo.
At the same time though, I don't understand how this is an argument against them supporting ActivityPub. Isn't it better that they supported an open standard at all? At least we got to enjoy that brief golden era when we could FB Chat via Adium.
