The minimal setup is nice to customize per project or set of projects. Tailor made specific for the use case. Only grab extensions where necessary, I've made a few for myself and work to help me.
warmwaffles··on You Said No MCP
If Armin and Mario want, they can just as easily move this back into a package and make it an optional thing to support if they want. There was already a heavily used mcp adapter package that they appear to have just finally incorporated fully.

Though as time progresses, they are probably going to do the same with sub-agents.

Kids love games regardless of depth. It's definitely about what they find interesting and what the reward structure is. My kids don't understand Factorio and that's okay with me, but the do love fiddling around with the old Pokemon GBA games.

Well if "kessler syndrome" is likely, you won't need many missiles.

edit: what satellites are in geosynchronous orbit that are running AI workloads?

> You can't disconnect. You can't shoot it.

Yes you can shoot them. The US has had this capability for a long time. Anti satellite missiles exist and they can be launched from an F-15 at it's highest altitude.

warmwaffles··on C Is Not a Low-Level Language (2018)
C29 is shaping up to be some quality of life changes. And it looks like clang has a lot of it implemented already. GCC seems to be implementing some of them. `countof(thing)` seems handy so I don't have to define some constant and use them in both places.

I remember `defer` being up for consideration for the last consortium but it got yanked. Lambdas would definitely be nice to have.

My biggest problem with fiction books is that it is hard to build suspense when I can clearly see I have another 100 pages to go or if I know that it's a series. After I realized that in my late teens fiction was very difficult to keep at consistently.

> I’ve been on a SSRI for 5 years and not once have I thought about getting off of it.

I had this same outlook too. Was on one for about 6 years and then my first kid was born. I felt nothing emotionally when she came in to the world and I discussed this with my wife. Two years later, my second child was born and it was a radically different experience and I am glad I got off.

My GP warned me, "Don't cold turkey it, taper off, cut the dosage and ween off. Ask your wife to pay attention to your moods, if you go sour and can't recover, you may want to consider going back on."

Over those 6 years on it, I learned a lot about how to deal with the stress. I definitely think that's a missing key in the whole treatment process.

warmwaffles··on Git at any scale
Very cool write up. But I do have to wonder, is Git the right solution for version control given where we are heading? The commands are all muscle memory for me now at this point, but all the projects I've been working on lately have just all moved to trunk based development, rebasing, and squashing merging feature branches onto main.

I've been working on another project where I have binary files checked in, assets that move or are moved and then changed that git "loses track of" due to the significant change. This just may be me doing silly things like moving a file and then editing it and then committing it and git thinks I deleted it and created a new file.

For your personal projects, do they _need_ to be on a remote git server with a full GUI?
warmwaffles··on Humanising LLM Outputs Is Dumb
Humanizing the LLM output is a hedge against agents hitting a wall and someone having to reason through it by hand.

I suspect a lot of that firmware has NDAs with Broadcom attached.

I don't blame them though. QMK is a mess of a monolithic repository.
warmwaffles··on ECC and DDR5
When that bubble does finally burst, you won't be able to afford those amazing hardware deals due to the economy being in the tank for a while.
warmwaffles··on The git history command
All I want to do is reword and correct commit messages / improve them without rebasing everything. When working with teams this is a sure fire way to create absolute chaos.

128GB of the most in demand consumer chip when all the manufacturers are switching to HBM manufacturing because the margins are far better there will do that to you. It sucks.
warmwaffles··on US home battery installations hit record high on rising electricity costs
They'll make it a requirement for building codes to have it on file when you installed them. Just like septic systems all being transitioned to aerobic systems. Then it'll be on file in the county and they'll tax you on the capacity.
warmwaffles··on The deadly rise of giant trucks and SUVs
CAFE isn't all they have to deal with. NTSB has stricter safety requirements now and we will probably not have small vehicles again. I just want a damn Hilux.

`==`, `===`, `->`, `-->` are more pleasant to read with ligatures on. It's silly, but nice.
warmwaffles··on The Coming Loop
The fun part about that `grill-me` command is that when the questions are over, I've found that I can go right into implementation without needing to dump a PRD or some sort of broken up plan. Now this is obviously completely predicated on what you are asking it to grill you on. But for tasks that are semi complicated, it's fantastic.
warmwaffles··on Pledging another $400k to the Zig software foundation
I went from Alacritty to Ghostty for ligatures and some other small goodies. I could probably get those same goodies with Kitty, but I didn't want to try nor have the desire to try. I may go back to Alacritty if I grow tired of Ghostty.

Sorry upper management doesn't care. That's an engineering problem that you need to solve.
