I would say we need more information per country to understand differences.
I would say this 1999 vibe is caused by smartphone and the "issues" that XMPP and IRC have with multiple clients for the same account. But it's a pity that, instead of improving those protocols, now we have to deal with multiple clients for multiple services.
Why people understand that you can use email with whatsoever client you want, but no with chats?
In my opinion, if you are losing your motivation, maybe your guts are not the best advice you should follow. I always try to take risky decisions when I feel comfortable with the current situation.
The only two things that (almost) works for me at this moment are a notebook (I use a modified version of bullet journal) and meditation (I use headspace).
Apart from that: sleep. That helps with the weird depression-like mood I always have.

I'll lurk his code :D
I was very sad with Sierra but now I can work with multiple VM and IntelliJ without pain in my fingers.
They look so obvious right now...
Right now, I think that the best decision I'm taking is learning Japanese.

I want to, but I don't have time for more podcasts. They distract me a lot so I only listen when I take a walk or commute.
C-a is the default one in Screen but as far as I remember C-b is the default one in Tmux since the beginning of the project.
C-x is a bad idea too, because is another shortcut in bash (C-x + e bring up the $EDITOR). I think C-b is a good choice.
The only thing I change in tmux is the pane and windows number (I prefer to start in 1 instead of 0 because I can type with less movement).
"control + a" moves you to the beginning of the line in bash (and in other shells, like zsh).
The temperature is something that bothers me but is usable, I guess.
I talked with my girlfriend about that (never with my parents, maybe I feel ashamed? ) and I talked with a professional. It helps a lot. Seriously. Go.
Few other things that work for me:
* Sleep. Man, just sleep. After two days without proper sleep, I feel like crap. Exactly with all those things that you said in mind.
* Food. No candies. Bananas are amazing.
* I fucking love coffee. But I tried not to abuse.
* Write things down. Tasks? Write them. Feelings? Write them too. Check tasks in a paper have something that helps me feel like I accomplished something. And try to do small tasks, break things into chunks. It's something very very very hard for me, but it works.
* Get angry. Really. Be mad at something. Be bordered by something. Hate something. And try to express those feelings (without being an asshole of course). Example: If someone sent me an email that I found stupid, I talk about that with my coworkers. I don't know why but makes me feel like I care about things.
* And disconnect. I used to be hyper-connected. Now I tried to minimize the number of things that I read, I don't use twitter either facebook anymore. If something does not add value to my life, I tried to avoid it.
We want to automate everything but we fight against the odds. In fact, I work with people that "don't believe in automation". I don't even understand the sentence.
BTW: Docker, Ansible, an in-house tool somewhat similar to OpenStack, Go and Python.
Well, I guess is time to learn Python

Yeah, disposable email. Send me an email and we can talk :)
The "culture" thing as you said is something weird for me. I don't see how they discover and evaluate if you fit or not. And what is necessary to fit. But I'm sure I don't want to fit if I don't fit by myself.
Is bad to have more preferred skills than basics skills? I never thought about it.
