As long as it's not a survey and you're not trying to sell me a product, feel free to reach out.

warent··on A boy saw 17 doctors over 3 years for pain. ChatGPT found the right diagnosis
Bizarre take.

  Not sure what's ChatGPT-specific here
They literally used ChatGPT, specifically.

You may as well hear the story of William Kamkwamba building a wind turbine for his village and say "Not sure what's African-village specific here. People have been building wind turbines all over the world with various resources."

warent··on Bun v1.0.0
it's possible that they chose Zig if this started as an unpaid passion project, and it simply sounded the most interesting to them.

Demonstrably by this 1.0 bun release it seems safe to say it ended up being a fine decision, no?

warent··on Rockstar is selling cracked game copies on Steam
"whichever comes last" got me haha
warent··on If you make less than $55K, the Labor Department wants you to get overtime pay
There are almost no Googlers making 500k.
warent··on Code Llama, a state-of-the-art large language model for coding

it makes no sense that you're being crucified.
Probably because there's significant overlap in the Venn diagram of people with years experience who professionally develop products that generate $millions in wealth/value, and people who would fail that interview.

Or we have worked with junior developers who have really grown and flourished under our care, who would never have gotten that chance with such insane Draconian judgements.

It's such an obvious "GOTCHA!!" setting someone up for failure.

The way it's framed is very cringy because it signals that they don't care in their interviews about determining how objectively effective a software developer is.

warent··on Discord.io breached, 760k user accounts for sale on darknet
Thankfully I never used this website exactly because I feared this.

There was a link to join a discord server via Discord.io that showed as a top Google result.

I clicked it not even aware it was 3rd party. Thankfully OAuth gave me the friendly confirmation page saying "You are about to connect with this third party service and grant full access to your account."

I said WTF? NO

Shame on the Discord legal team and their executive team for completely lacking diligence on this.

warent··on Securing Your PostgreSQL DB with Roles and Privileges
I don't think this literally means each user of your app gets their own DB user, rather that you create different db users for different aspects of your app.

What you're describing is what RLS (row-level security) is for, where you log into a generic global "app_user" user with certain permissions that don't include things like admin tables etc, and then define the specific user that is using the session via session variables.

warent··on Seattle becomes first in U.S. to protect gig workers from sudden 'deactivation'
Well yeah... they're forced to lose money in the same way any failed non-viable business is "forced to lose money" lol
warent··on B.C. woman buried in Amazon packages she did not ask for and does not want
Hmm maybe you didn't read the article, she's being charged by customs for the imports. Also, she doesn't want this stuff. It's not free shoes it's forced trash.
warent··on An airline said her bag was lost, her tracker said otherwise. She flew to get it
Hopefully you're not saying this as an excuse or justification for runaway hubris and just awful customer support.
warent··on How to Build Muscle
I once had a remote coworker who looked very similar in Zoom calls, and I'd subconsciously assumed he was probably kind of small and skinny.

When we met in person for the first time the guy was shredded and really bulky, he could probably bench press me. You can't guess someone's physique by their head!

warent··on Storing dead people at -196°C [video]
Step 3 being... resurrection from being dead 100s of years? What known science is that?
warent··on “1.1.1.1 is now handling more than 1.3T requests per day”
According to my pihole, about 30% for my network
warent··on How the recession doomers got the U.S. economy so wrong
This is the worst of it. My partner and I want to buy our first house but the market feels perpetually in limbo and it feels like there's no clarification or end of the tunnel in sight.

It feels like horrible timing, but then again they also say you can't time the market so maybe we just buy now.

Millennials are getting nonstop shit on, ugh

warent··on A beetle that heads for the ‘back door’ when eaten by a frog (2020)
For anyone wondering apparently this is a play on a quote from Shawshank Redemption, (I've never seen the movie!)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/characters/nm0000151

warent··on Ron’s Place
Another example of capitalism making it impossible for someone most deserving to own their own home. A masterpiece representing human spirit at threat since its inception, simply because of incessant greed.
warent··on Plans to plant billions of trees threatened by undersupply of seedlings
Mark this as one of the first times I've heard forest restoration categorized as "stupid"
warent··on Google abandons work to move Assistant smart speakers to Fuchsia
The sad thing is I'm not even sure this is a joke
warent··on Arc Browser 1.0
This is all I see on Ubuntu
warent··on Arc Browser 1.0
Yeah, I'm not reading all that. ChatGPT, please summarize this bombastic article
warent··on Higher interest rates mean for the size and distribution of UK household wealth
Agree, I thought it was about the mean (average)
warent··on Ord Phone
Why do I have to buy a whole phone for this? Can't I just get the OS on my existing Android device?
warent··on Going beyond ‘do you know of any open positions?’
Some anecdotal data for what it's worth: I've applied to many (hundreds probably) opportunities on Linkedin, Indeed, Hacker News, and Wellfound (Angel.co).

Only applications made on Hacker News and Wellfound lead to offers and jobs! Meanwhile, my applications made on LinkedIn almost never even get a reply.

warent··on Ask HN: What happened to Web3 startups?
Comparing web3 scams to this new wave of AI is unironically ignorant and delusional.

For one small example I literally get daily value from Copilot and happily pay for it, and there is much more beyond this. I've never once gotten meaningful value from web3.

warent··on Physicists generate the first snapshots of fermion pairs
Ahh this makes sense. I wasn't entirely sure if that was actually how hbar/2 related to it, so this clarification is helpful, thanks
warent··on Physicists generate the first snapshots of fermion pairs
I don't understand how is it possible that they can slow the atoms to a crawl and pinpoint their precise location. Isn't that a violation of the uncertainty principle? Sounds like a lot of certainty to me
warent··on PhD Simulator
I've never gone for a PhD, so I can't relate to the experience of this simulation, but found this game was actually really easy.

I completed my PhD in 4 years and 11 months, which feels quite reasonable. My "hope" never dropped below 45, and by the end, hope was 76.

If anything, this simulation just made me think getting a PhD would be a fun opportunity to do a lot of study, and didn't put me off at all.

EDIT: Why downvote? haha I'm just sharing my experience.

warent··on Make Your Renders Unnecessarily Complicated by Modeling a Film Camera in Blender [video]
The only thing I knew was that when light goes through a pinhole in a box just right, for some reason it creates a large upside down projection on the opposite side haha

Everything in this video is just a flurry of mad genius and gobbledygook jargon. Loved every second of it

warent··on Drugmakers are abandoning cheap generics
I think this is one of those "race to the bottom" things where businesses endlessly undercut each other until everyone loses
warent··on Millions of GitHub repos likely vulnerable to RepoJacking, researchers say
Hmm did you read the article? One specific attack vector they show has nothing to with Git or pushing/pulling to repositories. It shows an install.sh which curl downloads a master.zip from a public github repo and executes files within it.
