wardedVibe··on FDA stands against using smartwatches to monitor blood glucose
I remember seeing some results from a group using OCT imaging[0] that was on-par with a CGM, just bulky and requiring multiple high-end GPUs to actually run. So it's in principle possible, if nowhere near practical currently

wardedVibe··on Time Series Forecasting vs Regression: An informal guide
I found it to be way too underspecific; more of cursory overview for a undergraduate seeing it for the first time in a business school than someone interested in digging into time series forecasting in depth. Don't have a better recommendation though, unfortunately.
wardedVibe··on FTC bans TurboTax from advertising 'free' services, calls deceptive advertising
unrelated, I bet you really like David Foster Wallace
wardedVibe··on Understand how transformers work by demystifying the math behind them
Or just read Wikipedia, which I'm sure it will crib from poorly... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformer
wardedVibe··on Understand how transformers work by demystifying the math behind them
Thank god, I've had to cobble something like this together for my own notes a couple of times trying to parse papers and was never quite sure if I was missing something.
wardedVibe··on Hyperloop One to shut down
funny that one of the better f u t u r e ideas in this thread got heavily downvoted. This is probably one of the more efficient ways to automate package delivery, up to a small-ish size, and requiring a pretty high density. If NY wasn't a clusterfuck when it comes to getting projects built, they might actually have the density to justify the maintenance costs.

why not just use pneumatics? It's a proven technology used in sufficiently large facilities.

wardedVibe··on Six Degrees of Wikipedia
Interesting, the automated version of racing wikipedia pages:

https://wikispeedrun.org/

Though the path it gives from Manifestiny https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifest_destiny to Homo Sapiens https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human seems to go through a hyperlink not found on the page? Might be buried in versioning or other languages though.

wardedVibe··on The housing shortage is larger than you think
Even fire safety is frequently done in an overly onerous and ineffective way, e.g. the double staircase requirement that doesn't apply in many other places because other, more space efficient solutions were found.

wardedVibe··on Lithium “shortage” bubble implodes again
Because battery tech is evolving fast, and lithium could quickly become far less valuable...
wardedVibe··on The city of the future looks like a former military bunker in Taipei (2016)
it's... clearly not abandoned. Pretty sure you mean dilapidated.
wardedVibe··on Normal Operating Sounds
They mean a heat pump. You apply work to transfer heat, getting more inside than if you had just turned the energy into heat directly; the outside gets colder of course.

wardedVibe··on How Gödel's proof works (2020)
So the most physically grounded example I know of is the undecidability of some spectral gaps[0] (is there a discrete jump between the ground state and the excited states), which as far as I can tell doesn't rely on self-reference.

wardedVibe··on After OpenAI's blowup, it seems pretty clear that 'AI safety' isn't a real thing
It was a fire drill for AGI, and one that was failed badly.
wardedVibe··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
free QA seems pretty valuable
wardedVibe··on I wish people would do historical arguments better
Interesting, sort of like a reverse chesterton's fence argument: just because a thing used to be used to do x, doesn't mean that's the only purpose it could possibly serve.
wardedVibe··on Mastercard Should Stop Selling Our Data
their privacy policies are not great iirc. ironicially.
wardedVibe··on Anti-Anti-Adblocker uBlock filter to get rid of the annoying YouTube message
Just wait ~5 years when they have to show more growth by adding newer tiers of subscription, and making the current one ad-lite.
wardedVibe··on Amazon used algorithm to test how much it could raise prices: FTC
at best it's requiring people who don't care about the shipping time to subsidize those who do.
wardedVibe··on The CDC Awards $260M Contract for Disease Surveillance
As someone involved, yes, wastewater is included, though its a trickier data source to work with than people make it out to be. health insurance claims are the newest source I'm most excited for, though they're hard to work with for privacy reasons.

The sibling speculating about google search trends is right. Though we also did facebook surveys for a while. A lot of effort is put into making sure nothing that's possibly identifiable is present, so characterizing this as about tracking people is... pretty dumb.

wardedVibe··on The Frustration Loop
Amazing, this is better than a shadow ban even.
wardedVibe··on Terraria developer bashes Unity, donates $200k to open source alternatives
It's an attempt to use a small part of their revenue (unity) to coerce ad-based games to use their ad network rather than their competitors.
wardedVibe··on Is air conditioning making cities hotter?
Actually, it is a physical requirement that erasing information generates waste heat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landauer%27s_principle

We're still pretty far from that limit, but unless your plan is to never erase bits, you're going to waste energy.

wardedVibe··on LK-99: Phonon bands, Localized Flat Band Magnetism, Models and Chemical Analysis
Think by analogy with NP. Finding the solution (the right configuration of matter) is quite difficult compared to analyzing one that's been put in front of you.
wardedVibe··on You Are Atlas, You Hold Up the Sky
Lemme just throw this on the pile of a hundred tabs I have open. It seems perfectly content to be a background tab
wardedVibe··on Button Pushes You (2022)
It helps if you're on a phone or narrower window, in which case the color is like a separate mark.
wardedVibe··on Button Pushes You (2022)
Best migration of foot notes to the web (though the ones that pop up a banner as a sort of ur tool-tip, or expand into a bubble when clicked on are also decent). Most "footnotes" on webpages are actually end-notes, which is mostly a consequence of the lack of distinct pages. Fitting that a blog seemingly about design gets this right.
wardedVibe··on Unpacking Google’s Web Environment Integrity specification
freemium? See e.g. Kagi
wardedVibe··on “Coning” AVs is part of a long tradition of tactical urbanism
I'd rather see them deflating the tires on any trucks beyond a certain size parked in cities
wardedVibe··on The Southwest Effect
this more or less sounds like "this market became more efficient with more players"
wardedVibe··on Apollo is dead. Long live Apollo
not really, it'd be outside the garden wall, and thus not monetizable by reddit
