walrushunter··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
I'm an engineering manager at a Fortune 500 company. The dumbest engineer on our team left for Netflix. He got a pay raise too.

Our engineers are fucking morons. And this guy was the dumbest of the bunch. If you think Netflix hires top tier talent, you don't know Netflix.

walrushunter··on Marine pilot loses command after ejecting from F-35B that kept flying
A 110 million dollar fighter jet is worth an order of magnitude more than a human life, yes. And that doesn't even mention the potential for civilian casualties from the plane crashing.
walrushunter··on Marine pilot loses command after ejecting from F-35B that kept flying
That plane is significantly more valuable to the American people than his life is. That plane cost the entire federal tax bill of 1000 senior software engineers. If he's not willing to risk his life to keep it in the air, he shouldn't be flying it.
walrushunter··on Marine pilot loses command after ejecting from F-35B that kept flying
Precisely, the next pilot will not bail out so quickly, saving a $100M plane. Encouraging pilots to exhaust all options before they eject is the entire point.
walrushunter··on Marine pilot loses command after ejecting from F-35B that kept flying
Interesting because I'm willing to give the US Marine Corp, which conducted a comprehensive investigation before firing him, the benefit of the doubt.
walrushunter··on Ford to Halt F-150 Lightning Production as EV Demand Wanes
What he's describing is communism. Since he won't actually control his business anymore, there won't be any need to raise capital.
walrushunter··on Nobel Peace Prize for 2024 awarded to Nihon Hidankyo
Yeah, we should just stop all wars. Great idea! How has nobody thought of this before???
walrushunter··on The other British invasion: how UK lingo conquered the US
The most interesting part of this article is the incendiary language in the headline.

Nobody would click otherwise because it doesn't take a genius to know that the internet has caused Brits and Americans to interact more regularly and thus adopt more of each other's language.

walrushunter··on Insider trader had all the answers
There's no other way to see it.

I'm not sure why the parent comment decided to bring politics into it. You'd think the idea that the government shouldn't be able to accuse you of a crime and take your money without a trial would be bipartisan.

walrushunter··on California bans legacy admissions at private universities
The Los Angeles Lakers quite literally do have legacy admissions. They drafted LeBron James's son even though he's nowhere close to being an NBA-level talent just so that they could keep LeBron happy.
walrushunter··on FTC: Vast Surveillance of Users by Social Media and Video Streaming Companies
Blood??? Some kid spending their allowance on a shitty phone game does not make them bleed.
walrushunter··on FTC: Vast Surveillance of Users by Social Media and Video Streaming Companies
So terrorists? You're concerned data logging may harm terrorists?
walrushunter··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
It's amazing how little empathy you can have for a country that had 1000+ of its civilians murdered just because it's a primarily Jewish country.
walrushunter··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
How could I possibly personally guarantee that?

If your standard for engaging in military action is that they must be able to prove to you personally that their target is really a militant, you are completely delusional.

walrushunter··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
It absolutely alleviates the situation. The rockets were going to be fired either way. Now with a few dead, a bunch of wounded, and a communication channel disabled, it's going to be harder to coordinate future rocket attacks.
walrushunter··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
Literally no war ever has avoided collateral damage. Trying to hold Israel to that standard is absurd and pretty transparently anti-Semitic.
walrushunter··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
"Israel orchestrating an attack against the terrorists they're at war with makes me think less of them" is certainly an opinion. A batshit fucking stupid opinion, but you're entitled to it nonetheless.

Please don't vote.

walrushunter··on New York Times tech workers union votes to authorize a strike
The Democrats are most definitely leftwing. What a preposterous thing to claim. Just because other countries are withering away under socialism, doesn't suddenly make the Dems right wing.
walrushunter··on No X in Brazil? No problem, Brazilians say
Wow, I can't believe the Washington Post is supporting censorship again. It's almost like "Democracy does in darkness" was a complete lie.
walrushunter··on Federal appeals court finds geofence warrants “categorically” unconstitutional
Is it really essential?

I don't feel like this ruling changes my chances of being falsely accused of a crime at all. All it really does is take away a tool police could use to find the right person.

walrushunter··on Increasing Google and Alphabet VRP rewards
$10M is ridiculously low. Shame on you for even proposing that. It should be $100B at least.
walrushunter··on Solar generates fifth of global electricity on summer solstice midday peak
That's pretty bad for the northern hemisphere's solstice. It should be way higher than that.
walrushunter··on Google is force canceling gsuite because I used unlimited storage as unlimited
Without telling us how much storage he was actually using, this post is worthless. I could trivially abuse any "unlimited" storage plan to make the provider renege on their claims.
walrushunter··on Gilead shot prevents all HIV cases in trial
It's a tragedy of the commons. US lawmakers need to ban pharmaceutical companies from selling their drugs in the US at substantially higher prices than the drugs are sold elsewhere.
walrushunter··on Engineer's solar panels are breaking efficiency records
Hell yeah. Big win for the engineers here. Nobody builds better solar panels than us.
walrushunter··on Unexpected anti-patterns for engineering leaders
Some amount of micro-management is key to being a good manager. If you're not directly involved in what your reports are doing, it's difficult to know whether they're doing a good job or not.

Most IC engineers are cowards that refuse to give negative feedback about a peer even when it's anonymous. In order to really know how your reports are doing, you need to get down into the details with them. I've seen way too many low performer engineers survive for years just because their manager doesn't know enough about their work to know they suck.

walrushunter··on [dead]
Surveys show over 70% of Palestinians supported the October 7th rape and murder of Israeli teenagers at a music festival. Forging on is not enough. Hamas and all its supporters need to be wiped out once and for all.
walrushunter··on High performers job hop when they can't find a high performance culture
It doesn't matter why someone job hops, I still don't want them on my team.

Even someone with a perfectly innocent reason for job hopping (say for example, the candidate's spouse has a job that requires the candidate to move cities often) is still someone who is a high risk to job hop on me.
