wallst07··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
Can you show me your math on how taxing Billionaires solves France's Debt/GDP issue? Or even the US's debt servicing. I'd like to see the analysis.

This is not a argument on if they should pay more tax or not, it is a argument about what affect it has relative to the discussion of a countries debt.

wallst07··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
Another comment pointed out that the article is sensationalist.

If you bucket all the marries this law would affect, the 50 year old marriage is a far outlier. Most of the marriage gaps for these minors are < 1-2yrs.

wallst07··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
These are all good questions and also supporting OPs claims of consistency.

For a minor:

Is Marriage a want or a need, same with cosmetic surgery, or gender changes.

wallst07··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
On the flip side, you can get the marriage annulled in 1 day or divorced in a year.

Surgery is a little bit harder to rollback. There is still a power imbalance if you don't assume the parent is acting with best intentions.

wallst07··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
In practice though, did any children (by OPs definition) actually get married, or were they all pubescent minors?

You could say the same thing, "California bans babies from marriage" technically true but wrong in context.

wallst07··on California bans child marriage, a practice still legal in 32 US states
In tight/smaller communities having kids younger has one massive advantage: your parents/grandparents are actually young and energetic enough to help raise them.

Having active grandparents around to pass down wisdom and share the load beats waiting until your late 30s or 40s just so you can afford to hand your kids off to expensive daycare.

Losing that family safety net is a one reason people are having fewer kids now, and I really doubt it’s making society any happier.

wallst07··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
The whole truth and nothing but the truth...

Being biased isn't lying, withholding truth isn't lying (maybe). What is your point? You can be biased and not lie.

wallst07··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
So is HN, you're in the wrong placed for nuanced balanced discussions.
wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
The irony in this "the ones that agree that there shouldn’t be billionaires"

facepalm.

wallst07··on U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Falls to Lowest Level Since 1982
Yes, solar is far more efficient for generating power, but solar panels can't feed a population in a crisis.

The ethanol market isn't just about fuel, it acts as an economic buffer that keeps millions of acres of land fertile, farmed, and operational. If a global supply chain collapse hits, we can immediately redirect that acreage to feed livestock and people. If you cover that prime topsoil with solar panels, that agricultural capacity is gone. A nation that can feed itself has national security sacrificing our emergency food reserve for electricity is not a good idea.

wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
Or all the other billionaires that don't get any criticism because they align with [your] political ideology.

The selective outrage from posters is funny to me.

wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
"So worrying" ... because of marketing for a movie?

I can think of 1000 things more worrying that ad money for a documentary not being accepted for whatever reason on private platoforms.

wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
The founders didn't even have a prototype, they had nothing.
wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
LOL this comes up every single time. Tesla was nothing, it was a name and a plan. They had absolutely 0 and statistically would have never done anything.

Ya'll need to stop with what the founders accomplished pre-Musk.

I have never owned, nor have any desire to ever own a Tesla or any electric car yet, but this sideline war is amusing to see.

wallst07··on Musk, the Movie
Like just about every Netflix documentary... they're all one sided.
wallst07··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
EV designed cars may operate better but IMO they all look way worse. Except Porsche.

The new Rang Rover electric is indistinguishable from the ICE version.

Lucid Air / Rivian are decent looking but they make no ICE equivalent.

wallst07··on What happened to the Snowden archive
I'm not sold on anyway we will ever reach inequality, and I don't think it is a actual goal we should have as a target. I think it is a political wedge issue. I'm happy have my mind changed though.

The rest of your reply is getting too much into conspiracy theory for me to reply.

wallst07··on Transit rewards
Is that your only idea or are you trying to be facetious?

SF and CA have a very liberal tax policy, maybe dedicate some of the funds to get them treatment.

>BART likely created huge profits for people who owned land in the areas it services

Unless you try to build housing.

It's circular:

* Few take it because it doesn't meet their need [low denominator]

* Let's spend money to make it meet people's need [numerator goes up]

...

?

Or hasn't been smacked in the face yet , or had someone unhinged on the nyc subway state they are going to kill everyone on the train in a manic episode.

These are not un-rare events at all, it's just in a city with millions of people, most may never have it happen but we've all seen it. Nobody wants it to be them that day.

Walking through the tenderloin on a bad night seems like Carte Blanche to me, and it seems cruel and unusual (except maybe Philadelphia).

Congrats, now nobody will buy your strawberries in this analogy.
wallst07··on What happened to the Snowden archive
"If the powers that be don't want the boat to rock, it simply will not rock. "

Hear me out, it's not so much the powers, it's the people. If you poll people, they might say they want all this information and government reform.

But if you try to give them even 1 bit of hardship to accomplish this, then will not and it is easily forgotten.

This to me makes a lot more sense than 'the powers' in complete control.

wallst07··on What happened to the Snowden archive
Wrong phrasing, a new political party could absolutely come into power. It would just replace one of the two-parties ideologies but be called the same thing and you still have 2 parties.
wallst07··on What happened to the Snowden archive
IMO the underlying reason for this is one or more of:

1) Americans are [statistically speaking] doing very well, high GDP, lots of consumer products to buy, lots of entertainment, lots of cheap food... and wikileaks is not doing anything to help but maybe destroy this.

2) Americans are also doing very poorly, the bottom 25% have bigger problems to deal with than wikileaks. Why would they care if the CIA is watching them if they can't afford next month's rent?

3) Information overload: Similiar to 1, we get overloaded with things we ought to care about, climate, wiki leaks, wars.... it's too much and people really just want. #1.

Or maybe I'm off...

There are whole studies and philosophies on work/play. The one here answering your question is the 'Work Cycle' and the step 'Return Work'.

wallst07··on Attention is all you have
I agree, but my NAS is the messy room and I don't want to clean it but I want it cleaned.

I need to find the LLM tool that "cleans my room" for me by rearranging my 20+ year old dir layout that just keeps growing.

wallst07··on Robin Williams' Daughter to Fans Creating AI Videos: 'Have Some Shame'
Bob Ross was a content creator, and I would like to think if he were alive he'd still be painting, just using a different platform to share. I don't think he would care one bit if people made AI art as long as they were happy and kind.
wallst07··on Backups Aren't Simple
I didn't answer because it's had and I'd rather not give a incorrect answer.

And, I may have conflated issues: Iphone Storage < Icloud storage vs opposite way.
