walletdrainer··on Becoming a father shrinks your cerebrum (2022)
One would expect that the HN users who care about such things would already be aware of the paywall on economist.com
walletdrainer··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
I suspect there are very few real setups affected by that proftpd bug.

Nobody is ddosing anything to cover it up.

> This vuln is a digital magic wand that is trivially usable to cast Avada Kedavra and somebody neglected to tell 99.99% of the Good Guys about it.

A Linux LPE is a nothingburger unless you’re relying on the Linux kernel to enforce internal security boundaries, which would simply be foolish.

walletdrainer··on American Dads Became the Parents Their Fathers Never Were
Completely absurd, most good looking, well-educated Eastern European women with a plenty of options would disagree with you.

Your comment seems to imply that they’re stupid.

walletdrainer··on $500M for Virtual Biology Initiative, Funded by Zuckerbergs
https://chanzuckerberg.com/grants-ventures/grants/

A lot of parties.

walletdrainer··on Grok 4.3
> No MCP / connected apps support. It's been teased but here we are, still not available. I can't connect Grok to anything, so I can't use it for serious work

Grok has tool use, no? Why would you also need MCP? What does MCP add?

> What are you trying to say?

GP is clearly asking ”Are they?”

walletdrainer··on I accidentally made law enforcement shut down their fake honeypot
I doubt you are regularly getting 401s because of this.
walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
CNN should accurately report just how bizarre the reasoning behind these investigations appears to be.
walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
You can report these stories without sanewashing.
walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
It’s sanewashing.
walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
Pizzagate is still a (particularly nutty) conspiracy theory, if you genuinely believe otherwise you should seek urgent treatment.
walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
Same legacy news presenters which have a track record of pushing UFO conspiracy theories?

CNN was one of the biggest pushers of this hoax: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_States_drone_sight...

walletdrainer··on At least 10 people tied to sensitive US research have died or disappeared
This is the same network that breathlessly covered the obviously fake “drone swarms”.
walletdrainer··on Colorado Adds Open-Source Exemption to Age-Verification Bill
Why should anyone have the right to hold such power over another human being?
walletdrainer··on SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B
So, where’s the evidence?
walletdrainer··on Brussels launched an age checking app. Hackers took 2 minutes to break it
In Europe it’s very frequently perfectly legal to give alcohol to minors, but not sell.

For example, in the UK it’s only illegal to give alcohol to a child younger than 5 years old.

France has no limitations, giving a toddler wine is not explicitly illegal. Getting a child drunk would be.

walletdrainer··on Israel escalates attacks on medics in Lebanon with deadly 'quadruple tap'
> USS Liberty--ever consider how hard it is to identify ships from the air in a combat situation? Israel knew the ship claimed to be American, but they thought that was a ruse.

Everybody outside of the IDF PR department has accepted that Israel deliberately targeted USS Liberty.

The “misidentification” story was utterly unbelievable at the time, and remains so now. There are endless statements from top US national security officials directly calling the Israelis liars.

walletdrainer··on Traders place $760M bet on falling oil ahead of Hormuz announcement
CFTC, SEC does not regulate commodities but securities.
walletdrainer··on EU age verification app hacked, 2 minute How to posted
This is a very dishonest title OP came up with.
walletdrainer··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
> Who would do that?

Indian users, at least that’s what github data suggests.

walletdrainer··on Bluesky has been dealing with a DDoS attack for nearly a full day
A well done DDoS gets the target depeered :)
walletdrainer··on Bluesky has been dealing with a DDoS attack for nearly a full day
Clearly there are a plenty of people incorrectly blaming AI for bluesky outages, why indeed?
walletdrainer··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
Is the implication then that Aaron Swartz was murdered?
walletdrainer··on FSF trying to contact Google about spammer sending 10k+ mails from Gmail account
Why do you interpret that as everyone except Google getting their act together?

The obvious (and correct) explanation is deliverability. Spammers send from Google services because they can inbox, they don’t send from other services because those services will not inbox successfully.

walletdrainer··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
> like it ended for Aaron Schwartz in the worst.

They’ll… be offered 4 months in prison, or 6 months with an opportunity to ask the judge for less?

I don’t know about you, but to me that seems way more chill than how the TPB guys were treated!

walletdrainer··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
Google indexes links from places other than fiverr, odds are these links are mostly from places like GitHub.
walletdrainer··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
It’s a huge mistake to assume these links have to originate from fiverr-hosted HTML, it’s far more likely Google is finding them from places like GitHub repos used by fiverr-users.
walletdrainer··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
That’s very often a deliberate design decision.

It’s bizarre UX if you link a file to someone and the link doesn’t work.

walletdrainer··on Tell HN: Fiverr left customer files public and searchable
> Therefore, for these files to be indexed by Google, they need to be linked to from somewhere.

So? That’s indeed how Google works.

Google does not work how OP describes it.

I’ve investigated similar incidents in the past on other platforms, it was always user error causing links to be public.
