wak90··on The Long History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore
My goodness what an insulting thing to say about the man
wak90··on We bailed out the banks but we’re not prepared to bail out the planet
Do you know what came immediately after Nixon's impeachment?

Fox news. The right wing in the US could never do what Nixon did because they'll get hung in the media machine designed to protect them (and keep them in lockstep)

wak90··on An Introduction to APIs
I remember getting an interview question wrong when I said "yeah a get is supposed to just respond with data but you're writing it, you can make it do whatever you want"
wak90··on Plants that are signs of former human settlements
His point was that it isn't the trees "natural" placement? That's kind of the theme of the post?
wak90··on FBI improperly used 702 surveillance powers on US senator
Normally, I'd just flame you for this.

There's a baseline level of consumption required to survive. Meaning everyone eats, rents, drives to work, buys an entertainment system. Paying for what you consume is a regressive way of generating tax revenue as the tax is raised from the poor masses.

Progressive taxation exists because people with more income have more disposable income. When you tax a poor working single mother of three and she must choose between buying food or paying tax, you will get riots eventually. When you tax a millionaire who's choice is buying a sports car or paying tax, riots don't usually happen.

It's the luck based nature. The addiction is because you have inconsistent results despite consistent inputs. Humans like to learn, problem solve and pattern seek. Luck based reward systems subvert that but random games tease that part of our brains that it is possible to figure out the pattern if we just do a few more experiments with inputs.

It's really odd that Bloomberg somehow reports that businesses abusing liability and bankruptcy laws is good, actually.
wak90··on Disruptive protest helps rather than hinders activists’ cause, experts say
This "person" in the same comment claims property damage to small business is such a tragedy and the death penalty should be used for petty crime.

I don't think their "morals" are worth understanding in the slightest.

These statements display a fundamental ignorance of morality, the role of criminal justice systems, research, the role of the state, the real current systems in place. To even begin a conversation with this person would require several sources demonstrating how their premises are all wrong and through experience this person will not engage in any of these sources.

wak90··on Ask HN: What's the current job market and sentiment like for outsourcing shops?
I'd like to pick up some freelance side work, do you have any recommendations? Websites to use etc? The few I've found for gig work has abysmally paying jobs for what I do.
wak90··on News is bad for you – and giving up reading it will make you happier (2013)
Understanding that unbiased reporting is a farce requires some understanding of media literacy and in my experience most people do not have that literacy nor a desire to learn about it. So the caveat is unfortunately necessary.
wak90··on A Dutch Village Where Everyone Has Dementia (2014)
I don't think that's clear at all.

Working age adults work from their early 20s to their 60s and end of life care does not typically last that long.

wak90··on Reddit makes it impossible to delete PII, refuses to do it itself violating GDPR [video]
They're undeleting deleted comments

Do you not consider contaminating a city's water supply catastrophic

While telling the mothers it was healthier for the baby to use formula
