Microsoft Safe Link technology does not actually inspect the link until the user clicks on the link. This is to avoid that confirmation links, used by some service to confirm registratio or as 2FA, may be triggered by the security engine without user consent.

He told KPTV: "They said there was a kid in that row whose shirt was sucked off him and out of the plane and his mother was holding onto him to make sure he didn't go with it."

I don't undertand why there is not a better alternative in US, like a bank transfer/wire. In the EU, these transfers are often free at most banks, or at most, they incur a fee of 1 or 2 euros.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Mastercard Should Stop Selling Our Data
I requested the personal information they have about me related to a Maestro debit card I use as my main debit card, and the result was: "We did not find matching results for you!".

I am in EU.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Credit card debt collection
That's because in the Netherlands most banks used Maestro (owned by Mastercard) and Vpay (owned by Visa) as international debit circuit. The acceptance for Maestro and Vpay online is much lower than "normal" Mastercard Debit and Visa Debit. Acceptance for Mastercard Debit and Visa Debit is practically the same online as Mastercard Credit and Visa Credit.

Maestro is being sunset by Mastercard and no new card can be issued. Only Mastercard Debit. So the problem with the fact that Dutch debit cards (Maestro) are not accepted online will be solved in a couple of years.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Visa, Mastercard Prepare to Raise Credit-Card Fees
Actually just a specific fee is capped in EU, the interchange fee.

"Interchange is a small fee typically paid by acquirers (retailer’s bank) to issuers (cardholder's bank), to recognise the value delivered to retailers, governments and consumers by accepting electronic payments."

The interchange fee does not go to Visa or Mastercard, do I think they are free to increase any other fee (if they are not colluding in a cartel ;)

BTW This is the reason that in EU credit cards gives no rewards or very small ones. Rewards are, for the most part, coming out of the interchange fee.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Why no Roman industrial revolution?
"And even if some ancient engineer magically did create a simple two stroke engine, there wouldn't be any incentive to invest as to produce them with regularity. At most, they would've been a curiosity of the wealthy with little usage beyond some minor conveniences."

To confirm this, ancient greeks invented a simple steam turbine, and was regarded as a "party trick".

Also, using TLS with Perfect Forward Secrecy (all modern ciphers), it's not possible to just capture the traffic and dectypt it later. You have to know the private key and do MITM.
w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on IPv4 Waiting List
"Since the RIPE NCC began operations in 1992, we have been responsible for distributing IP addresses and AS Numbers in our service region. In November 2019, we exhausted our remaining IPv4 pool. This means that networks in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia are no longer able to receive “new” IPv4 addresses from us that haven’t previously been used by another network."
w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Debit cards are hidden financial infrastructure
The contract I have with my bank (Italy) states that in case of dispute they will refund the money immediately (end of the working day).

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on When McDonalds Came to Denmark
"When I bring this up, people sometimes respond by saying that these kinds of strikes are illegal in the US. This is a true and worthwhile bit of information, but insofar as it is meant to imply that the different legal environment is what accounts for the labor radicalism, this obviously has things backwards. The laws aren’t driving the labor radicalism, but rather the labor radicalism is driving the laws."

So true. Every kind of strikes was illegal before it became legal.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Google illegally underpaid thousands of workers
Most of these laws were written in Europe when staff leasing from external agencies was legalized at the end of '90/early '00. They were meant to avoid what you describe. I don't know if they work well, but it's better than nothing.
w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Google illegally underpaid thousands of workers
Google pays work agencies (like Adecco) that then pay workers. The worker has a temporary employment contract with the agency, but reports directly to Google staff.

The laws are meant to cover temporary staff hired by a work agency hired by google.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Microsoft warns thousands of cloud customers of exposed databases
It's not just incompetence. Apart from costs, there are some strange limitation and very specific feature missing if you use Azure PaaS DBs with private endpoint enabled.

It's like private access has been added as an afterthought and lags behind the "normal" (public) access.

w3ll_w3ll_w3ll··on Another free CA as an alternative to Let's Encrypt
Let's encrypt decided for 3 month to force users to automate and avoid the burden of too much user support. They are a no-profit after all.

I believe commercial CA are offering free certificates milted to 3 months for the same reasons, and for the up-selling opportunities.

I think also cloud providers offer free 1 year TLS certificates, but of course you are also using their other services.
