vuurmot··on How to scale intent, quality, and artistry with AI [video]
Look forward 5 years, whereby the majority of music, art, games are AI generated.

Is there a record amount of people playing video games? People spending hours in front of a computer listening to AI generated music and art?

I am pretty sure the trend will be towards the opposite. The AI fanatics believe that playing a video game is an isolated activity, but is it?

Don't people often play the latest video games (even single player) to belong to a part of a digital society? Do people play Dark Souls because it is a fun and challenging game? Or do they play it because they want to experience what the wider gaming society experiences, and participate in it?

I quote the MAGNIFICA HUMANITAS: "We can embrace the technological progress that alleviates suffering and unlocks new possibilities, provided that we do not abandon the very essence of our humanity, namely the capacity for relationship and love"

vuurmot··on How to scale intent, quality, and artistry with AI [video]
Many people have no interest at all in art, if it is not used for connection with others. Scale all you want, humanity overwhelming rejects it.

The end result is that certain genres of art (digital paintings, video games, digital music) will die, and people will return to participating in the real world. The purveyors of artistic expression will flow back towards those who perform in the real world, with different recombinations of the genre, tending towards those that can allow for recognition of genuine expression.

AI will kill certain genres of art, and many more genres of art will be born.

vuurmot··on RuneScape's Position on Gen AI
why are you begging someone to buy gen ai games lmao
vuurmot··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Not often countries want to degrade their culture like that by importing other cultures to have children with their women

Maybe the europeans are an exception

vuurmot··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
well in this case, the woman would have to be sufficient, or they would only degrade the eugenic project
vuurmot··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
This is an insane leap of logic

Japan is doing it well

Crash the economy and reduce people's purchasing power

Make them poor, and the birth rate will rise (Japan birth rate is rising) =)

Fighting legally against one of the richest companies in existence, with the entire American apparatus behind it, is a brave move
vuurmot··on Dwarf Fortress' creator says the industry's in shambles over AI
there already tons of interesting games generated over at www.reddit.com/r/aigamedev

I think it is over

vuurmot··on No country for mediocre mathematicians
the arts is crashing harder than programming

many schools have shuttered since ~2022

artist gigs are at an all time low

if you practice artistry as a craftsman in niches like carpentry, maybe you could make a living..

vuurmot··on Flock Credibility Lost as It Repeatedly Lies to City Councils, Police, & Public
fyi Finland has the same conscription rates, I don't see them being criticized for conscription? Maybe they are too white, or maybe people who injected too much rugged individualism into their veins have rotted views of society

A system that has brought security and cohesion, and thus wealth, is accused of being dystopic

vuurmot··on Flock Credibility Lost as It Repeatedly Lies to City Councils, Police, & Public
In Singapore, policing does not have the dystopian surveillance thing attached to it, because a large number of police are civilian conscripts. It takes the edge off, when you know that your neighbor's 18 year old kid is working in the police force, rather than some mercenary force

On top of that, the majority of the military consists of civilian conscripts, which arguably holds more power if the system ever goes bad enough to degenerate into martial law

vuurmot··on PRC-linked influence operations are targeting AI debates in the US
AI is able to recursively improve its code now, and Anthropic warns we should slow down development before it gets too advanced (reported 2019, and 2026)

PRC-linked influence operations are targeting AI debates

Anthropic and OpenAI holds all the power and will create world utopia

oh btw, we will both IPO after SpaceX

lol, clown world.

vuurmot··on How the U.S. became a science superpower
You make it sound like the US is a parasite that takes the young of other countries to endow itself, never mind what happens about other countries. Maybe it is?
vuurmot··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
So? Less capital chasing after housing means housing prices fall. If the capital was not destined to be used in the first place, then it only serves to inflate the economy

It's weird that the comments are deflecting from the parent point. But yes, over time, it hurts the country.
vuurmot··on Malaysia is betting on data centers to boost its economy
There are plenty of other comments citing Nvidia statements, so I don't think I need to address this.

Certainly the tendency for people here to reach for the most conspiratorial theories is bizarre to me.

vuurmot··on Malaysia is betting on data centers to boost its economy
It is a pretty unfounded claim.

Singapore holds the headquarters of a lot of SEA megacorporations, as well as regional HQs of big tech in both USA/China.

These chips are bought from these HQs and redistributed to the rest of the world (Singapore is a major shipping hub). India imports chips through their HQs in Singapore, so does Australia, Saudi Arabia, Europe, America, etc.

Maybe you could make the case that shady companies are exporting to China, but I am fairly skeptical as there are already American officials in Singapore collaborating to investigating this issue

vuurmot··on How Nissan and Honda's $60B merger talks collapsed
I think they are like $15k rather than sub $20k

Though I wonder if EVs are really all that good without the infrastructure.. With state of the potholes and electric infrastructure in most countries, can EVs hold up?
