vthallam··on A recent experience with ChatGPT 5.5 Pro
@NotOscarWilde drop your email here, I will reach out and happy to get you a pro account for a few months so you can try 5.5 pro.(work at OAI)
vthallam··on GPT-5.5
This model is great at long horizon tasks, and Codex now has heartbeats, so it can keep checking on things. Give it your hardest problem that would take hours with verifiable constraints, you will see how good this is:)

*I work at OAI.

vthallam··on Gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05
As if 3 different preview versions of the same model is not confusing enough, the last two dates are 05-06 and 06-05. They could have held off for a day:)
vthallam··on Launch HN: Soundry AI (YC W24) – Music sample generator for music creators
Just wanted to say the video demo on the home page was very cool. Congrats and good luck!
vthallam··on PFAS in blood are ubiquitous and associated with risk of cardiovascular diseases
> I've started taking 100ml shots split out twice a week

mind sharing what kind of shots?

vthallam··on Bruno: Fast and Git-friendly open-source API client (Postman alternative)
probably thinking of mapping the API routes to folder structure? like customer/transactions/{id} mapped to similar folder structure with a file containing the source for the API call
vthallam··on FDA says 561 deaths tied to recalled Philips sleep apnea machines
I have a deviated septum, but the doctors in the US doesn't think its medically necessary to do Septoplasty and I also have a sleep apnea, come to think I should get this done.
vthallam··on OpenAI employees did not want to go work for Microsoft
> >> and comp was reasonable

there's no way you guys would get the same comp though? like not even close. MSFT irrespective of how much it wants you is not going to honor the 10X increase in valuation from the upcoming $90 billion valuation.

Even if they do, you will miss on the upside. MSFT stock is not going to 10X but OpenAI's might.

vthallam··on Amazon Introduces Q, an A.I. Chatbot for Companies
I guess B2B kind of makes sense. Like most companies data is already on their cloud, so a wrapper to answer questions on their data seems pretty useful. But I see that they want this to be company's knowledge base chatbot which kind of doesn't make sense given most companies use MSFT/GOOGL products for conversations + knowledge management?
vthallam··on Generative AI support on Vertex AI is now generally available
how does Vertex compare to GPT in terms of quality of output? Also do you use it as it is, or do any fine tuning?
vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
This is under development, We already parse form 4's to generate insider transactions and are going to do the same for 10Q's and 10K's very soon. If you are interested in sharing more feedback on what you would want, please reach out to me at venk at stonks dot news
vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Hey! Thanks for trying and Sorry it didn't work for you. I had to either build in vaccum with a lot of guessed training data or release a reasonably working tool, so i opted for later.

Things will definitely improve over time, names and tickers should at least give you a chart though! would love to know your prompts either here or email me at venk at stonks dot news

vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Currently only have 5 years data :/ , but plan to expand the data set a bit later!
vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Sorry, sometimes its just dumb. it works like this - https://stonks.news/gpt-share/4735/ozk
vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Thanks for trying and Sorry! It's super early, what works great:

* Screener type queries * Charting(prices, volumes), single company or comparing multiple * Insider transactions from any company * heatmap or top movers today * Earnings data for a certain year and quarter.

There's a bunch of things that also work, but overall we have a long way to go! Please do sign up so we could update you on the next set of features

vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Are you on mobile or web? I just checked, once you enter a prompt, you can clear it and then enter a new one. Happy to help look in more detail if you continue to get this error. feel free me to also email at venk at stonks dot news
vthallam··on Show HN: StonksGPT – A Natural Language search tool for Stocks and Finance data
Thank you! I initially had a single line, but on mobile it was very awkward to edit text and considering there's no app, figured its easier to have elongated text. Also, adding support for longer queries, essentially like if you have a hypothesis, you could validate it a bit using this tool!

> However, when I type into the box after that, that message changes on each keyDown.

thanks for flagging, will fix it soon!

vthallam··on Meta Q1 2023 Earning Results
We do have backtests that run over a long period of time to check the effects of the big changes that were introduced.

vthallam··on Tech CEO applauds an employee selling their dog to accommodate return-to-office
This is despicable, but titling "Tech CEO" for a digital marketing company is a stretch. FWIW, no one(very few?) actually in tech company would make fun of working mom's or applaud someone for selling their dog.
vthallam··on Retrieval in LangChain
Noob here. Is this similar to what ChatGPT Retrieval plugin does, but for other LLM's?
vthallam··on Meta lays off 11,000 people
I work here and wasn't affected. But that's how I saw the severance. Anyone who doesn't have visa issues could literally pursue their ideas for the next 6 months.
vthallam··on On Leaving Facebook
Yes, we don't ask DP questions. (I work at FB)
vthallam··on Show HN: Looptap – A minimal game to waste your time
that works. If there was a leaderboard, this thing will win for sure :)
vthallam··on Pelosi rejects stock-trading ban for members of Congress
just a theory, but may be the new Twitter policy that you can't use other people's images without their permission? The account has Pelosi's picture, seems like a insta ban under that rule.
vthallam··on Show HN: A Tool to show Stock Market returns If you had Invested in the past
Hello HN! A while ago, I built a tool to show the top 100 stocks discussed on Wallstreetbets and posted here. That went on the front page and gave me motivation to build more of these stock market analytical tools.

I know there are too many out there, but I plan to build things I would use myself. As part of this, a friend and I created this tool to answer questions like "What If I Invested in GME in 2019 etc". You can use this tool to check historical returns for any stock in the last 20 years.

Also taking requests for any stock analytical tools you think are missing in the market, we are happy to build it for you :)

vthallam··on Facebook-owned sites were down
nope. an individual is never blamed for these sort of issues.
vthallam··on How big tech runs tech projects and the curious absence of Scrum
One of the bests parts about working at a faang is we don't do scrum or stand ups. Everyone shares timelines ahead of a project, and they run with the execution, flag if there are any blockers or need help. Saves so much time without the extra overhead.
vthallam··on Note that I wouldn’t pass the listed minimum requirements
Sorry about your situation. I would suggest doing two things. 1. Build a github profile. Do some interesting side projects that shows you can code. They don't have to super complex, small scripts that are useful or a CRUD web app is fine. 2. Make a linkedin account, add a bunch of recruiters, people from FAANG and start ups, start sharing your side projects on linkedin.

Do cold reach outs to recruiters on LinkedIn. This is all a lot of work obviously, but it will work. Don't worry about college degrees, no one really cares tbh. Good Luck!
