volument··on How Figma's Multiplayer Technology Works
> However, no one my design team likes it.

Figma realized the same thing before starting the project:

> If anything, people hated the idea.

It seems they simply wanted to build this feature regardless of what the users think:

> But ultimately, we had to do it because it just felt wrong not to offer multiplayer as a tool on the web

Funny.

volument··on Can I Email: ‘Can I Use’ for email
A rough estimate would satisfy me at least. Seems Litmus has farily broad statistics from 823 million opened emails: https://emailclientmarketshare.com/ (August 2019)
volument··on Can I Email: ‘Can I Use’ for email
This is good! I have searched for this actually.

However this seems to lack the most important thing (for me): the global usage percentage of a particular feature, which is the #1 deciding factor whether to use a HTML/CSS feature or not.

volument··on Google Analytics vs. Volument
The gist: If you want general analytics, use Google Analytics. If you want conversion optimization, use Volument. If you want both, use both.
volument··on The pain of a successful Hacker News launch
It indeed shows which market segments just glances the startup (3, 7, 15 second stay rates) and which segments find the content more interesting. It doesn't tell you the exact emotional reason why someone leaves early.

The super-valuable insight is to know how the various segments proceed on the AIDA funnel (attention, interest, desire action) so you understand how your visitors convert.

It also reveals your best target markets and landing pages that generate the most traction. This data is not available elsewhere.

volument··on The pain of a successful Hacker News launch
Good point. Changed "most depressing" to "saddest" on the article ingress. Thanks.
volument··on The pain of a successful Hacker News launch
Volument shows the size of each segment and doesn't generate any report unless the size is "sufficient". However, it doesn't reward bigger segments when calculating the score for traction.

Thank you for the solid feedback!

volument··on The pain of a successful Hacker News launch
Google Analytics bounce rate isn't useful for single-page applications unless you monitor user activity with JavaScript and GA event tracking. Not everyone is aware of this and/or can do this. We should update the docs with regards to events.

GA can do retention reports or "cohort analysis" and show how visitors return in a monthly basis, but there are two critical limitations on it:

1) It doesn't show you which landing pages, target markets, or their combinations are retaining the most.

2) You can only study one metric by the time and not the total retention + conversions each segment generate, which should be the deciding factor

There is no initial interest, nor predictions either. So when doing a new campaign you cannot take any insights from cohort analysis until you wait for enough return visitor data.

We certainly agree that Google Analytics is an awesome tool and it has served our sites really well in the past. It gives tons of general insights for a free service, but isn't designed specifically for conversion optimization. Hence Volument.

Yes. We really made a bad architectural decision and are now suffering from it. We thought the first version was good enough for the public eye.
volument··on Show HN: Volument – A new take on website analytics
Thank you for the feedback! We take these points seriously since they are critical. Especially the issues on the onboarding flow. The main problem currently is that the product leaves you in rather confusing state after installing the embed code. We will fix that next.

Your other points are also valid and will be addressed. I really like Hacker News — hard to get this valuable feedback elsewhere.

Thank you "rsweeney"!

We tried our best to explain the value of Volument on the features page:

https://volument.com/features/

The solution page just explains the technical details. We mostly use abstract images when explaining things. The demo works like the product works.

Thank you for the feedback! Definitely valuable and something to take insights from.

We'll keep this in mind. A promise.
volument··on Show HN: Volument – A new take on website analytics
We hear mixed voices. Most people seem to think $50/month is cheap for a small- and medium-sized company (with lower volumes).

For bigger sites Volument is indeed more expensive than Mixpanel for example, but we justify that with providing data that helps them do more of those valuable conversions.

And Heap Analytics is much more expensive for bigger sites than Volument.

volument··on Show HN: Volument – A new take on website analytics
Hey everyone. We built this thing over the past few years after realizing that we could not really understand from traditional analytics how our visitors truly behave and convert. We wanted to measure the AIDA funnel (awareness -> interest -> desire -> action) that all the marketing books and growth essayist talk about, but not truly applied to analytics. We have implemented this together with a couple of customers and it is now ready for the public eye.

Happy to hear your professional feedback.

Thanks!

Yup. Expected to read this article from a simple site.
volument··on Ask HN: What are the best books you've read this year?

After decades of written knowledge about the topic, how is it possible that someone can still succeed by doing it differently?

volument··on Y Combinator CEO: “The True Test of Product-Market Fit Is 'Drowning in Demand'”
Conversions are the tip of the iceberg when people want your product. They first come to your site and find it interesting (stay rate), then they crawl more pages and read more (user experience or "engagement"), then they return doing that more — and the more they return the better the market (product/market fit).

And the better the market the more they convert (member conversion rate), and finally pay (customer conversion rate).

If you only measure conversions, you don't understand why they happened and what to improve to make them happen even more.

volument··on Y Combinator CEO: “The True Test of Product-Market Fit Is 'Drowning in Demand'”
I agree to this. In fact — product/market fit can be measured from the traffic by studying the user experience and frequency of visits. We just launched a product that can do this:
