vojnovski··on France to tax flights from its airports, airline shares fall
The taxes here amount to 8,33% of the total ticket price.

The rest are actual charges that airports/government services levy for work done, as well as the famed fuel surcharge (usually recently noted as international/domestic surcharge) that airlines use as an wildcard addendum to the base fare of the ticket.

vojnovski··on Show HN: Airport Locations from Around the World
Opentraveldata (https://github.com/opentraveldata/opentraveldata) is generally a great source for travel related data, based mostly on Geobases and Wikipedia. Its OAG extract is a bit old, but all airport data (and more) can be found in https://github.com/opentraveldata/opentraveldata/blob/master..., which is refreshed on an almost daily basis. There are other data sources in the same folder.

Also, https://github.com/opentraveldata/geobases is a fun way to play around with Geonames/Optd data.

vojnovski··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
Can't seem to edit the original post any more, so here goes an update.

Thanks!
vojnovski··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
The Google Search Console has a International Targeting section, where it associates your site with a country, which influences "how your site appears in search results, and improves our search results for geographic queries." This can be disabled.

They have some ccTLDs which do not automatically associate your domain to a specific country as specified here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/62399

.be is not in the list.

vojnovski··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
Done. It seems it can't hurt, even if it only redirects to the .mk tld one.
vojnovski··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
Unique as in I can't find anyone else with my name+surname on the internet. Quite, as in I can't be sure that a person with that name does not exist (short of a SHA-1/MD5 hash as suggested above, but even there one cannot be sure: https://security.googleblog.com/2017/02/announcing-first-sha...). :)
vojnovski··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
It is quite unique. Almost all of the results in the first three Google result pages are legitimate, mostly pointing to a plethora of social networks profiles.

edit: put original edit in sub-comment.

vojnovski··on Wikipedia blocked in Turkey
Not necessarily.

Both Putin and Erdogan (many others as well, Orban, Gruevski, to name a few), were elected under promises to bring prosperity through democracy.

Carefully targeting vulnerable groups with PR and economic engineering has proven itself a great tactic for achieving their autocratic vision.

edit: spelling.

vojnovski··on Basic Security Precautions for Non-Profits and Journalists
Does make sense. Any advice on best way to access the Tor network, if not the Tor Browser?
vojnovski··on Basic Security Precautions for Non-Profits and Journalists
Why exactly?
vojnovski··on Ask HN: I was hired and unhired in 2 weeks, for no reason
It seems he was offered compensation for the two weeks he actually worked for them, which I'd take for granted. What the comment above is probably alluding to is termination of contract compensation.
vojnovski··on Meet the People Taking over Hacker News
+1 on this. Impressed by the submission list.
