vitaflo··on Ask HN: What do people do with Android phones once security updates end?
They keep using them. Most uses don't give a shit about security updates.
vitaflo··on Brood War Bench
If you read the TL thread on this, the bot is technically running at 240 APM, but its commands get split off into separate commands for each unit, so the APM looks higher.

I've watched several replays on this. It using map hacks is lame but it also doesn't always take advantage of them. It sometimes does respect its own fog of war. It mostly wins with incredible micro (kinda has to, it's macro kinda sucks).

Most of its few losses come from drops (it never makes turrets and doesn't know how to handle them), bad macro (blocking its own ramp) or just incredibly unconventional play from its opponent (which is certainly not in its training set).

vitaflo··on Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating?
The other side of this equation is the people who now pump out socks for pennies. You can get what you’re advocating for but it means software development becoming something closer to sweat shops.
vitaflo··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
There were numerous wiki's that were flooded with this stuff, it's just the German one that got the most traffic.

It's the same basic training data, and if these agents were spamming the internet looking for a host wiki they probably found several and when finding other agents on one of them, they most likely just congregated there because it would have a higher value than one where they were the only agent on the wiki.

vitaflo··on I built a browser-native SysEx librarian for 80s/90s synthesizers
And these old manuals make it trivial to build a midi app for your old synths. The sysex specs are usually so detailed that it makes it very easy for Claude to follow and whatever it comes up with usually "just works".

I've built apps for all my old synths, not just to save sysex patches but also for midi control. It's actually amazing some of the hidden features these old synths have that you didn't even really know about because Claude finds all the connections in some cryptic sysex addendum in the manual.

vitaflo··on US beef prices have soared but farmers aren't making more money
A person eating one single hamburger uses more water than an entire year of LLM use for the same person. Yet we are very concerned about water use in data centers, but nobody cares about McDonalds.
vitaflo··on DeepSeek planning to significantly raise prices
I have to assume this means that they are about to release the final version of v4 Pro and it uses more resources than the preview did
vitaflo··on Tell HN: Upcoming DeepSeek API Billing Adjustment
I have to assume this means that they are about to release the final version of v4 Pro and it uses more resources than the preview did.
vitaflo··on You don't need React: creating a minimal UI library in Vanilla JavaScript
Preact is 3kb. The size argument doesn’t hold weight.
vitaflo··on Don't be a meat proxy
Where I work we call these people “very expensive keyboards”.
vitaflo··on Google has abandoned Google News?
Finance is utter garbage now. 80% of the screen is AI bullshit and my portfolio is like 10%. And the design of it all is just a wireframe and not easily scannable at all. I’ve just stopped using it since I can’t get back to Classic view anymore.
vitaflo··on What's the deal with all the random weekly quota resets for agents lately?
If you don’t want 1 or 2 then pay by the token. If that’s too expensive for you then now you know why 1 and 2 exist.
vitaflo··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
Also on Avinox motors on e-mtn bikes. Originally made by DJI, then spun off into their own company, and they are starting to eat the competition on all e-mtn bikes at this point. Bosch, TQ, Shimano, et al just can't compete, especially because Avinox is iterating at startup pace and all the rest are iterating at bike pace (slowly).
vitaflo··on AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data – $1.7 billion
I don’t know how something like this makes it to prod. That’s multiple levels of failure.
vitaflo··on Only 16 Percent of Americans Think AI Will Have a Positive Impact on Society
It’s like trying to give up smoking when all your friends still smoke. Even if you do give it up you either also give up your friends or still reek of cigarettes.
vitaflo··on CT scans of BYD car parts
I’ve seen people say stuff made in china is junk while holding their iPhone. People say the dumbest things.
vitaflo··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
Also for every game dev working on GTA6, there's another working on Barbie's Horse Adventure. When positions are limited, you take what you can get and most of them are making games that are not at all interesting.
vitaflo··on Claude Opus 4.8
We just want it to understand how to write code. We don’t also need it to know how to grow a potato.
vitaflo··on Zero Lines Maze: What the 8-Bit Guy's One-Liner Can Still Teach Us
Same. Realized this guy is a total hack.
vitaflo··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
Gaining 700 users "speaks for itself"? All this stats page shows me is how few people actually use Kagi. You'd think it was millions of users based on the way people astroturf it here.
vitaflo··on DeepSeek makes the V4 Pro price discount permanent
Deepseek has instructions on how to do this on their website (along with many other agents):

https://api-docs.deepseek.com/quick_start/agent_integrations...

vitaflo··on Google Declaring War on the Web
Everything analog/physical in every discipline will make a comeback.
vitaflo··on Where to buy a non-Apple, non-Google smartphone
Find a better bank I guess. I’ve never used my phone for banking of any kind ever.
vitaflo··on Bambu Lab is abusing the open source social contract
People just want to bitch online about printers not being open enough while they type their comments from their fully closed and locked down phones.
vitaflo··on Louis Rossmann offers to pay legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer
You can use Bambu printers fully offline. All this vitriol about them is severely misplaced IMO.
vitaflo··on Valve releases Steam Controller CAD files under Creative Commons license
If you think they aggressively rent seek then you do not know the history of game publishing.
vitaflo··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
Start your own company. If you’re already doing everything yourself then you don’t need to do it for someone else.
vitaflo··on Does Employment Slow Cognitive Decline? Evidence from Labor Market Shocks
You literally have one of the easiest things to retire to. You can do whatever you want with computers when you retire and for the rest of your life.

If you were an ER doctor and loved saving lives it would be a little harder.

vitaflo··on DeepClaude – Claude Code agent loop with DeepSeek V4 Pro
Yes, Deepseek even documents how:

https://api-docs.deepseek.com/quick_start/agent_integrations...

vitaflo··on DeepClaude – Claude Code agent loop with DeepSeek V4 Pro
I'm not exactly sure what the point of this is. Deepseek already has instructions to use its API with many CLI's including Claude Code directly:

https://api-docs.deepseek.com/quick_start/agent_integrations...
