viktorcode··on Driverless robotaxi fleet paralyzed for hours in San Francisco
It looks like a strike action by the AI drivers.
viktorcode··on EU Digital ID wallet is coming
All the papers that can be replaced with this digital ID were issued by the state.
viktorcode··on Apple's claim is that it bans other browsers for security
PCs weren't made "open" by the government regulations. Any company if it wishes so could start selling a locked down Windows machine with no ability to replace the browser. Nobody will call this company "a monopoly" for that fact alone.
viktorcode··on Apple's claim is that it bans other browsers for security
That's exactly why markets aren't defined in that way. See judge's notes from Epic v Apple trial.
viktorcode··on FCC commissioner wants TikTok removed from app stores over spying concerns
I disagree with the premise. Supposedly, Carr continues to run Trump's agenda, but then it would banning TikTok for the reason that the social network was used to organise anti-Trump activities during the last elections.
viktorcode··on FCC commissioner wants TikTok removed from app stores over spying concerns
You either operating on an open market, or in the government-controlled market.
viktorcode··on FCC commissioner wants TikTok removed from app stores over spying concerns
As I get it Carr haven't presented any hard evidence, instead linking to the open publications with various levels of research.

Privacy breaking apps must be thrown out. However, this mustn't be decided on the basis of hearsay.

viktorcode··on Anti-innovative effects of Apple's prohibition of alternative browser engines
I'm curious, what is your definition of monopoly?
viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Unlike in Apple's situation, users had the full power of choice of installing a web browser on Windows PCs. They used IE for the same reason people now installing Chrome: it's the browser where the most of the stuff doesn't break.
viktorcode··on Apple's claim is that it bans other browsers for security
Your "marketshare" definition is bogus. I could claim that Firefox has 100% marketshare of PlayStation consoles.

There's no such market as devices of a single manufacturer.

viktorcode··on Anti-innovative effects of Apple's prohibition of alternative browser engines
Web engines market share: Chromium - 80%, WebKit - 20%

FOSS patents: "Apple apologists seek to defend the Webkit engine monopoly"

viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Internet Explorer 6 was dominating the web. Was it best too?
viktorcode··on Revisiting the principles of data-oriented programming
I wouldn't call C++ "good" at any of those problems. "Good enough" - maybe.
viktorcode··on Goodbye, shitty Car extends Vehicle object-orientation tutorial (2011)
It does not replace OOP because there are no answers to other questions like: does it support polymorphism? Or data encapsulation? Etc. It's a data access design principle, and that's about it.
viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Either you are trolling, or you are that singular kind of user site marketers dream about, who actually want to enable push notification and receive their spam.
viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Please define "best"? Certainly, it's not the power efficiency. Not memory efficiency either. Performance maybe? But then it's very different from test to test. So, what makes Chromium the best?
viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Not really. Safari had its own declarative content blocker engine for many years now. Additional, it is moving to the manifest standard for better interoperability with cross-browser web extensions.
viktorcode··on Apple is not defending browser engine choice
Yes, you do miss something. There is about a metric ton of various adblockers on mobile App Store.
viktorcode··on Surprising result while transpiling C to Go
> a GC can be more efficient than direct heap allocations

Unoptimised, naive allocations perhaps. I'm old enough to still remember when Microsoft used similar line of reasoning to create artificial cases where C# beat C++ performance.

viktorcode··on Contra Wirecutter on the IKEA air purifier
There is Rtings for television, and other specialised sites for other product categories. I don't think you can stick to any general review source and consistently get quality reviews.
viktorcode··on 2022 Cloud Report
Take a note, that node sizes of different factories aren't comparable, because they are measured quite differently. You can only compare TSMC v TSMC, Intel v Intel etc.
viktorcode··on I cut GTA Online loading times (2021)
The most likely explanation is they never used this launcher themselves. That applies to QA department as well.
viktorcode··on EU reaches deal to make USB-C a common charger for most electronic devices
In case if you didn't know, all modern Apple lightning chargers are USB-C chargers. It's the cable which is different.
viktorcode··on Rust Is Hard, Or: The Misery of Mainstream Programming
I never got the point of having borrow checker in a single-threaded environment. Can someplace please explain its usefulness to me in that scenario?
viktorcode··on How do video games stay in sync?
You don't have to stream encoded video from the server. It is much faster and simpler to stream game state and have the game clients render it. Esentailly, that's how all the games with "authoritative server" work.
viktorcode··on SwiftUI in 2022
It's new and requires different mindset than UIKit. Many times I was thinking "it must be broken!" only to find out later that I was doing things wrong. I suspect many posts on Twitter follow the same pattern.

My advise is to try it, and learn along the way. After a while the idea of going back to UIKit will become scary.

viktorcode··on First human injected with cancer-killing virus in clinical trial
Same on Safari.
viktorcode··on Richard Stallman – The state of the Free Software movement
Only he's wrong. He's supposed to be the top expert behind Free Software movement, nobody else can answer that real-life question better than RMS.

An idea that's inapplicable to reality even in principle is worthless.

viktorcode··on Richard Stallman – The state of the Free Software movement
You are comparing slavery to writing proprietary code. It takes a cult-like devotion to perform that mental leap. Maybe it's obvious in your mind, but good luck spreading this word to wider world.
viktorcode··on Why Remotion is a native macOS app, not Electron
There was, but only temporarily, as Apple disallowed running every iOS app bundle.
