Beginning Perl by Ovid.
Modern Perl by chromatic.
There are a lot of other good Perl books but some of them are getting old and it is better to already know a bit before reading so one can separate good from dated etc. Thanks to the quick compile time and good tooling Go almost feels like a scripting language when developing but especially for UNIXy stuff it can't replace Perl for me.
UNIX commandline and Perl is a match made in heaven.
Using Golang will demand significantly more effort when doing more complex stuff but will give you concurrency, easier deploys/multi-platform support and better performance if doing CPU intensive stuff.
2 months sounds insane. I guess you did not click with Perl?
Often when I glance over code to understand what it is doing I don't really care about values. When scanning from left to right it is easier when the left side contains the variable names.
Also I just find it unnatural if I read it out loud. It is called Yoda for a reason.
Definitely Perl for UNIXy stuff.
I've had some similar experiences when trying to learn Go, for non performance unixy stuff Perl just rocks.

Why not put it back on Github? I always find it interesting to look on other projects when I have an idea etc. Deprecated or not.
I am getting tired of puppet/ansible and dream of the pure Perl + Shell world I used to live in. :)
Except for perhaps an unfortunate name it was an interesting project. I can see that all links to it doesn't work anymore..
Mojolicious is my preferred Perl framework.
I prefer Perl.
It's the best!
