vgrichina··on Berliner: Sinatra like Framework written in 16 lines of CoffeeScript.
Funny that so many commenters don't recognize trolling of CoffeeScript developers/frameworks
vgrichina··on Show HN: cisimple - CI for mobile (iOS and Android)
Haha, finally I got competitor for mine https://hosted-ci.com

Probably I need to get it out of private beta faster :)

vgrichina··on Google gets license to test drive autonomous cars on Nevada roads
Yes, this isn't going to happen at once. At first there will be cars still needing some driver control (like planes with autopilot), but as most drivers aren't professional I think laziness will gradually win over fear as people will get used to not having to control car.

> Another example are airplanes, which are driven almost automatically these days, where the pilot is only really required for landing and, again, for safety in unexpected situations.

Actually now pilots usually don't land manually unless for training (and so on commercial flights usually only in perfect weather conditions) or when there is some serious problem (like engine not working).

BTW, very big part of recent plane crashes was related to human errors in cases which could be handled by autopilot.

vgrichina··on Poll: How much sleep do you get per night?
Cannabis would work better, lead to no hangover and is healthier.
vgrichina··on Poll: How much sleep do you get per night?
Maybe you can try to explain customer that it is needed to improve your productivity? I think any sane customer would understand that.

Try adding a nap in the middle of the weekdays, it should make you feel much better (around half an hour should be enough)
vgrichina··on Ask HN:Best Development Laptop?
Sure that having more RAM won't make things slower. But for most uses cases SSD compensates for lack of RAM, as swapping becomes reasonably fast.

You need to swap our more than 200 MB per second to saturate SSD in MacBook Air, it is hard to produce that much of non-garbage data.

vgrichina··on Ask HN:Best Development Laptop?
Swapping is far more efficient on SSD and so RAM isn't such a problem. At least it works good enough in cases when you have a lot of data in heap which isn't used frequently (your example of multiple projects open).

RAM is cheap, but it still would take additional volume inside of laptop + use more power.

vgrichina··on Ask HN:Best Development Laptop?
To tell the truth it looks to me that if something requires even 1 GB of memory during compilation than you have a bigger problem than lack of RAM on your laptop :) So I'd like to know about some real-world example when you need that much RAM for compiler.

For most cases when people claim they need more RAM the actual bottleneck is I/O rate which is kinda improved by having RAM to use as cache, but SSD usually works out even better.

vgrichina··on Ask HN:Best Development Laptop?
I've got myself MacBook Air (last year's model) with 4GB RAM and now I realize that I could even be fine with 2GB model.

It works just damn smooth because of SSD, much better than my iMac with 4GB and faster CPU but regular HDD.

vgrichina··on Did you know Keyboards have 60% more germs than your toilet seat?
Actually toilet seat is the cleanest place (http://mythbustersresults.com/hidden-nasties), as it is regularly disinfected, and so only 60% more is quite clean actually.
vgrichina··on Show HN: Experimental Mac app for reading HN
Would be cool if it can show comments page in a split view below article.

Maybe it is already possible but not visible in screenshots?

vgrichina··on Google releases full Android 4.0.1 source code, includes Honeycomb too
GPL'ed code has been already released by Google, what was released now is under Apache license.
vgrichina··on Ask HN: Need feedback on my first own iPad app – Coloring book with some magic
Thanks, I'll think on adding eraser and possibly other tools in next updates.
vgrichina··on All Maps in China are Transformed
It isn't surprising at all.Soviet Union maps were also intentionally inaccurate. This inaccuracy still often appears in xUSSR maps.
vgrichina··on Ask HN: Need feedback on my first own iPad app – Coloring book with some magic
Great, thanks for suggestions. Will update copy a bit later.

Good idea, I rushed to release MVP, but I also think it will make sense to have different modes.
vgrichina··on Richard Stallman on Steve Jobs: correction
IMO that's exactly being hypocritical. Why book users should be prevented from modifying and redistributing them if software users are allowed this right? That simply makes no sense.
vgrichina··on Richard Stallman on Steve Jobs: correction
I understand this and I won't do such thing myself, what I mean is in case of Stallman he would be hypocritical if he's against it.
vgrichina··on Rent a Mac in the cloud for development
BTW, maybe you'll be interested – I develop hosted continuos integration service specifically for iOS / Mac developers, see it here http://hosted-ci.com/

vgrichina··on Richard Stallman on Steve Jobs: correction
Isn't Stallman all for sharing and openness?
vgrichina··on Ask HN: What code review tool do you use?
We use this Redmine plugin – http://www.redmine.org/boards/3/topics/5878

I would recommend it when you already use Redmine. It is very simple, but I don't think any more complex features are really that needed.

vgrichina··on Eggtweeter - Tweet Scheduling Web App, Open Beta
I think it would be cool to have some tour, screenshots, etc to make it possible to evaluate if it is worth registering to use service.
vgrichina··on Ask HN: Is anyone interested in hosted CI (Jenkins) for iOS / Mac?
> I hope I'm not being so cheap and parsimonious as to offend you, but I'd like to see a version of your service offered in the $15 price range without much sacrifice in quality/service.

There are two main reasons for high cost: 1. iOS / OS X projects have to be built on Apple hardware. 2. CI is resource intensive task, so not like very many users can share single machine.

I'll think on making a smaller plan though. Also for non-Mac projects $15 plan would work for me.
