very_good_man··on Better Call GPT: Comparing large language models against lawyers [pdf]
We may finally again get affordable access to the rule of law in the United States.

Apple needs to face criminal penalties for the dark patterns with which they prey upon their users.
very_good_man··on Does uBlock Origin bypass the latest YouTube anti-adblock script?
Thanks for posting - Google needs to face serious competition and market penalties for the recent anti-user behavior. I feel that the products that matter at Google are controlled by an extremely distasteful group of people. Looting the users amassed years ago by real innovator engineers.

For example, the real implied free storage in GMail has implicitly been reduced by 80%. Their failure to reduce prices and in fact their price INCREASES are just pure greed on display.

very_good_man··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
The people in control of Apple know their market power, ironically, derives from a closed-garden messaging product. Exactly like Blackberry.

The longer the anti-customer behavior continues the greater the resentment becomes. Customers do not like being treated as captives to Wall Street thinking. Mega-tech will face consequences for the unapologetic greed they exhibit right now.

very_good_man··on Chat with Cloud – Interact with AWS Cloud Using Human Language
I recently played around with this tool to spec out the resources I'm using to host a medium complexity Rails application in AWS. I was blown away by the experience.

Lifetime access costs $4 (just for now I assume!)

I have no affiliation with the owners other than being a paying customer. In the hands of real AWS customers, I believe this will put immediate pressure on AWS' anti-customer practices. This will enable real businesses to leave.

Addled, Anti-1st Amendment essay.

Few Anti-Musk types appreciate how popular the 1st Amendment is with the public. "Powerless" people (like me) will be dramatically more likely to do business with a person who's willingly accepted large financial and personal risk to protect the public.

very_good_man··on Amazon cuts 'several hundred' jobs in Alexa division
A little more leetcode could have prevented this outcome for this division of Amazon.
very_good_man··on Oxide Hiring Process
Seeing as AWS is probably the king of the BS leetcode interview track, your aping their behavior in this area as the ANTI-AWS does not bode well for you. I hope I'm wrong here as AWS needs serious competition.

very_good_man··on Interviews in the Age of AI: Ditch Leetcode – Try Code Reviews Instead
Leetcode being asked in an interview is a marker of an incompetent organization.

really need to somehow get airlines to give this a code review and try this in real life somehow.

very_good_man··on San Francisco could ban right-hand turns on red. Could L.A. soon follow?
Comical. California politicians are going in the wrong direction on essentially every single thing people care about. No, we want traffic to go faster. Yes, turns on red are safe.

How about a crack down on vagrancy, shoplifting, and illegal immigration instead of taking away faster traffic?

very_good_man··on Return to Office Is Bullshit and Everyone Knows It
Let's bring the rest of workers up to earning like this rather than promulgating envy.
very_good_man··on Two years of Bitcoin in Bukele’s El Salvador
Bukele has been a wonderful leader for El Salvador. He's shown us that we don't have to live in a society run by violent criminals. We can actually solve the problem.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
So what do you think the real number of people who can fit in the aisle per row? 1.2? 1.5? 2?
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
You're allowed to wait for later flushes, and to trade your position for a nearby neighbor's! Families would be absolutely fine in this system.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
The simulation currently encodes an average 2 second gap between passengers in the deplaning aisle - in theory you could shoot in when a passenger with a longer minbuffer is near you. This can be done so long as it does not cause accordion-style congestion in the aisle.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
These little real world improvements are available in both systems and do not impact the overall conclusion.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
This is why I suspect there to be an even more lassiez faire approach available:

1. ANYONE fills the aisle

2. Entire aisle is flushed (aisle obstructors are somehow severely punished)

3. repeat until done

This would probably be even faster than what I propose but is a lot harder to model.

very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
I've considered the "group" issue at length and do not consider it a major issue. People like us are obligated to improve the world for the less enlightened.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
It would be cool to see how fast a marching band, say, could exit a plane.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
There's a great deal of imperfection and slack baked into this simulation. I invite you to read the source code. In it you'll see that I explicitly afford for slack in the walk and belongings-gathering steps.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
No it doesn't. This objection is addressed directly multiple times in the repo and in the explanation.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
This happens constantly during deplaning? I think this is a little quirk of how the animation is rendering. There are "little people" standing in the rows behind whoever is currently gathering belongings.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
I think in practice, if 1F could sneak out without blocking the aisle, it doesn't matter. The true important thing is that the aisle not be blocked. The aisle space is the limited resource. There are even more "lassiez-faire" versions of this simulation that could somehow try to model "unregimented" standing. Might be worth doing.
very_good_man··on The Fill and Flush deplaning method
This is why I think it's important to emphasize the raw number of lives saved. There are winners and losers in both systems, so important to focus on the lives saved by adopting something now. We'd need strong social penalties for any deviant action that blocks the aisle.
