Do browsers still implement <marquee>?
verbalist··on Bitcoin falls from $266
It's the ultimate hack.
verbalist··on How An Apple Star Lost His Luster At JC Penney
My initial reaction is that it's related to securities law.
verbalist··on Hoodie: very fast web app development
> non-js users

the web is no longer just text. if you need to consume text then you need a text-api client, which is what web browsers used to be.

verbalist··on Bitcoin shoots past $150 today
You think it's hard to hire developers right now? Well guess what, there are a bunch of talented ones who only want payment in Bitcoin.
verbalist··on Bitcoin shoots past $150 today
You could probably sell some in person if you live in a major metro area; for example if you're in SF I'll buy them off you today (in person).
verbalist··on Are Bitcoins The Future?
you were implying that arbitrary public addresses could be cracked with a 20k budget, and i am saying that it is not the case.
verbalist··on Are Bitcoins The Future?
> I'd put a rough upper bound on that at $20k

Um, what? There are public addresses with thousands of Bitcoins. Why aren't they getting looted?

verbalist··on I'm tired
Wait, nobody's even bringing up the fact that maybe the game developer didn't get the pass on merit alone? Yeah, the comment was rude (people are rude everywhere, always), but maybe he had a point.
verbalist··on Powerful Thoughts From Paul Graham
For example, I want to connote that acqui-hires rather than buying traditional economic value, symbolize an acquisition and alignment of social proof.
verbalist··on Powerful Thoughts From Paul Graham
> Everyone, just admit that the CEO's are paid for having contacts in the right places.

I haven't been able to fully shake the idea that our modern notions of wealth, money and currency are built on a type of social proof pyramid. But I can't quite articulate why. What do you think?

verbalist··on Powerful Thoughts From Paul Graham
I think this is wrong:

>53. If I had a choice of living in a society where I was materially much better off than I am now, but was among the poorest, or in one where I was the richest, but much worse off than I am now, I’d take the first option. | It’s absolute poverty you want to avoid, not relative poverty.

verbalist··on What's Actually Wrong with Yahoo's Purchase of Summly
Will your company have a yogurt cup for a logo? I'll let you have that idea for $500 - $600.
verbalist··on Law schools: Still hiding the sad truth from students
If you don't mind me asking what were your stats? I suspect a 176 LSAT would've netted you a better-than-50% scholarship at the top 15s. Did you have a low GPA?
verbalist··on Law schools: Still hiding the sad truth from students
With a 176 LSAT you probably would've gotten some rich scholarships barring unusual circumstances.
verbalist··on What really happened at PyCon 2013
"If you start a company and fail, at least you can say "I started a company and failed" and the Silicon Valley Brigade will give you a job as a Rails programmer."

Haha, this happened to me exactly. I didn't even know Ruby. Or Rails!

verbalist··on Human Intervention as a Competitive Advantage
Are you a sexual service? Maybe you should consider posting on backpage.. "Book Online in Secs" sounds like "Book Online in Sex"...
verbalist··on I'm a loser and I want to change that - now
Just saying, this would be a great way to embarrass someone. I could think of a few friends I'd love to humiliate by posting to HN -- "I'm a loser. { } My name is _____."
