Look at the wings closely. Looks like they had to taped them back on.
vegasbrianc··on [dead]
Going out on a limb here. Maybe the drone crash landed. Malfunctions happen all the time just look at the computer in front of you.
vegasbrianc··on Stop asking me for my phone number
Finally a reason to get away from the contact forms that have not changed forever.
vegasbrianc··on Oops: Microsoft accidentally reveals secret social project
It looks as though Microsoft feels pressure to rush and start "leaking" their social presence to counter Google.
vegasbrianc··on Appsterdam: A Haven for Indie App Makers?
I lived in The Netherlands (right outside Amsterdam) for 6 years. It is a nice country with a lot to do and see when it wasn't raining. But the Dutch tax the heck out of you on everything. On the flip side you get an 8% holiday bonus mandatory by the government but most companies already compensate this into your salary already.

If you are an entrepreneur I would recommend never to hire a fulltime employee and only hire contractors or be absolutely certain on who you hire. We had such big problems with a few employees and the government would not let us fire them. Our company had to pay them compensation and help find them a new job?!?! We also had another employee that became to stressed with the workload and the Dutch government told us we had to pay his salary until he returns for up to 2 years.

Finally the nail in the coffin for me was the weather. I couldn't take wind and rain for what seemed like months straight and summer lasting for sometimes only 1 month.

I wish Appsterdam success but for me I prefer lower taxes and better climate. Malta or Switzerland anyone?

vegasbrianc··on F.B.I. Seizes Web Servers, Knocking Sites Offline
A little bit of devil advocate here. If the server rack was full of virtual hosting that would mean one server could ideally host multiple websites and if all the servers shared 1 or 2 SAN's it would be difficult from an outsider looking in to know which server hosted what website especially with Graveyard shift. Even if you knew node 1 server hosted the site it would still be shared on the SAN and could easily be started on another server.
vegasbrianc··on Google.com has 35 W3C erros while MSN.com has 0?
So is it safe to have invalid code on your website then and Google will not penalize you for it?
vegasbrianc··on Why F1 Steering Wheels Have Over 20 Buttons - And What They All Do
F1 robo series maybe?

I agree the driver still has a lot of influence. But, if drones can fly around in the skies then a pilotless F1 car is not so unrealistic. Fans liking robo F1 cars no one really knows for certain but it would be very interesting to see.

vegasbrianc··on Secure your Linux server - HowTo by the NSA
Quite a detailed document. Glad to see the US taxes paying for something decent for once.
vegasbrianc··on Why F1 Steering Wheels Have Over 20 Buttons - And What They All Do
So how many more seasons before the drivers become obsolete and the engineer in the pits controls the entire car?
vegasbrianc··on There's no place like home
No place like 127.0.0.1 :) I do agree having lived in quite a few cities and now 2 different countries. I still call home where I was raised.
vegasbrianc··on Ask HN: Who's hiring in Europe?
I am moving to Zug in May. Count me in.
vegasbrianc··on What's the point of stealing $1.5 million in casino chips from the Bellagio?
As engineer for the Casino Industry 99% of the casino RFID solutions on the market track all chips all denominations. The Casino RFID system is used in multiple ways

- Tracking players bets - Ensure the dealer is paying out or taking in the correct chips - Accurate accounting - Fraud Prevention

So next time you go to the casino remember they are tracking you even when you cannot see it.

vegasbrianc··on Ask HN: How would you deal with DDoS?
With security it is always cat and mouse and the target is always moving due to software updates, new OS's, and applications. I agree with Troels that you need a shard security sysadmin with a plan in place before an attack ever happens. If a company is scrambling at the last second trying to put security measures in place or hiring security staff to assist. It is already to late. Preparation , testing, and regular updates is key to security
vegasbrianc··on Paypal.com appears to be unavailable
This should help the IT Security industry get a boost and hopefully create more jobs.
vegasbrianc··on SlideShare Outage Will Be Due To Global Warming
We hope the Apple tree farm will not infest the server room during this time nor an Android UFO landing. :) Great way to spin a planned server outage!
vegasbrianc··on Dutch Women work less, have a big gender pay gap, and they love it
That is also why the taxes are 52%. They have to nail everyone else who does work full time and earns a decent wage.
vegasbrianc··on WePay Drops 600lbs of ice in front of PayPal Conference
Well I think the US is one of the only countries left using checks. Everyone else (Most of Europe) has moved on to direct bank transfers for everything.
vegasbrianc··on Why Germans have higher productivity and longer vacations
I'm not joining the battle on which country is more efficient but I do think it is important that you can disconnect from work with vacation/holiday. Born in the US and now living in Europe for over 6 years I've worked in both environments. I do have to say when returning from a long vacation you are ready to hit the ground running with your batteries fully charged.
vegasbrianc··on Ask HN: What stops you from starting today?
Nothing is stopping me. Just working on it every minute in my spare time while still working full time.
vegasbrianc··on Apple Magic Trackpad
I agree with you. It looks handy but dont know till I give it a go and see how useful it actually is.
vegasbrianc··on Why the Mythbusters won't do RFID (2008)

vegasbrianc··on There Are No Pictures of iPhone 4 on Google Image Search
Put the word Apple in front iPhone 4 and iPad. This will help your search.
vegasbrianc··on Woot To The AP: Nice Story About Our Sale — You Now Owe Us $17.50
Typical double standards by the AP. Great to see Woot having some humor with the matter.
vegasbrianc··on Why There Will Be No Macs in 2010 (2006)
Can these guys predict stock market prices as well? :)
vegasbrianc··on Copying a hotel keycard onto an NYC MetroCard
Not exactly ground breaking. This is standard functionality of most card readers/encoders. You can do the same with your credit/debit card with the same results. The information on the mag stripe is not encrypted and just plain text.
vegasbrianc··on [dead]
Thanks for that as I missed those.
vegasbrianc··on Founders aren't programmers = doomed ?
It is good until your programmers run off with your idea and you have not seen one line of code.
