vasdae··on EU agrees to introduce eID ignoring privacy concerns
You can't effectively control cash. Removing cash is the entire point.
vasdae··on EU agrees to introduce eID ignoring privacy concerns
Because it's controlled by the state and the state has an agenda that goes against my freedoms.

I'm not looking forward to my purchases being declined because I ate too much beef already, travelled too much, or was caught demonstrating next to people the state does not like.

vasdae··on US Smartphone Shipments Decline 19% in Q3 2023 as More Americans Delay Upgrade
This is the kind of thing that people here in HN believe? No wonder you're looking forward to electrics then.

Still with SD cards and headphone jacks? The world has moved on, my man.
vasdae··on EU's concealment of secret 'expert list' on CSAM regulation is maladministration
That may be true, and still I don't care - it's not my problem, and I don't want to waste a single CPU cycle of my mobile phone in scanning for content that I do not have.
vasdae··on Don't disable buttons
Allow me to hijack this thread to say something that is related:

Do not disable buttons or checkboxes or whatever unless it's very obvious how to enable them! I have seen software applications that showed disabled form controls or menu entries depending on settings that were in other screens or even compile-time settings - that is unacceptable!

vasdae··on Millions of customers in Australia hit by mobile phone and internet outage
It's an Australian network so I already can figure what country that peer is from.

vasdae··on New job has no way of coding locally?
When you have to edit something different in a different site every day you can't do that because you would waste most of the time replicating the site locally.
vasdae··on New job has no way of coding locally?
I work using wordpress and I've been working like this practically my entire career. I use programs like winscp to edit code directly in production over ftp or scp. If the site goes down, well, boo hoo.

A way of avoiding problems or hiding new features that are currently in development is wrapping the code in... if server remote addr == my ip... do this... else do nothing. Works fine!

vasdae··on I Know What You Download on BitTorrent
Or maybe your wifi is not as private as you think it is.
vasdae··on I Know What You Download on BitTorrent
It's a waste for the ISP when 99.9999% of users do not need a static IP address. When users turn off their routers they can reassign the addresses to other users. Not to mention the privacy issues of always using the same address.
vasdae··on I Know What You Download on BitTorrent
The site has always been very reliable for me, so I have bad news for you.
vasdae··on I Know What You Download on BitTorrent
I don't know of any country in the world, developed or not, that has static IPs for residental home users. It's a waste of IP addresses.
vasdae··on Italy to seize $835M from Airbnb in tax evasion inquiry
I live in the South of Europe and I can relate: the working people work and pay taxes just so those who live on welfare can live off us. So obviously we evade as much tax as we can.
vasdae··on Tutanota is now Tuta
Tutanota is not Tuta (it still says tutanota everywhere)

vasdae··on Apple developer boycott of Feedback Assistant
I suppose Feedback Assistant is like Windows' Feedback Hub. Users fill it to the top with shit making it impossible for Apple or Microsoft to do anything useful with the feedback.
vasdae··on Google Pays $21B for Search Monopoly: How "Free" Tech Markets Repress
> If you actually believe the holocaust was an invention and spread this belief in public you should be jailed IMO.

I mean, as long as you are aware of how autoritarian this is...

vasdae··on Google Pays $21B for Search Monopoly: How "Free" Tech Markets Repress
Basically for having the wrong political opinion. If that's not a limitation on the freedom of speech...

Germany probably has the least free speech of the developed world.

vasdae··on Tesla to build 25,000-euro car at German plant
>Electric vehicles will succeed or fail with how they can establish themselves on a second hand market.

They will "succeed" because the government will force us to use them. It's us citizens who will succeed or fail to have freedom to move, depending on how wealthy we are ;)

vasdae··on Men's Shed
No, the two sexes are different and we don't heal the same way or doing the same things.
vasdae··on Why Cities: Skylines 2 performs poorly
Granted I know next to nothing about game development, but aren't LOD models made by hand?
vasdae··on AI companies have all kinds of arguments against paying for copyrighted content
Despite the books being copyrighted that doesn't give the authors any rights over the code I have written.
vasdae··on AI companies have all kinds of arguments against paying for copyrighted content
That's the way it's always worked. You read books to learn to code, then write code and you get paid for it, but that money doesn't trickle down to the writers of the books that taught you to code.

vasdae··on Topic: Discord Stealer
A lay person should not be operating a computer.

Even then, if you download a .js file and try to execute it you will get the MotW warning. https://www.bleepstatic.com/images/news/Microsoft/vulnerabil...

>ChatGPT can output in my language, but the language is stiff and feels off.

I'm Spanish and I'm tired of American companies pretending only Mexican Spanish exists.
