varkson··on I'm Leaving Mojang
I don't like his attitude in the public eye but at least he's self aware and not afraid to say it. That does take courage.
varkson··on Firefox Add-on Enables Web Development Across Browsers and Devices
If this was the Chrome dev tools I'd be very very happy.
varkson··on Node OS
I'm generally pretty open about using web technology outside the web, but come on guys, why do we need this?
varkson··on Microsoft Near Deal to Buy Minecraft Maker Mojang
Stop this MS h8 shit m8 if anything, MS will bring some stability to that company. Right now it's just a bunch of children making shittonnes of money for an indie games accident. They didn't work for it, they got lucky. Notch just prefers to be a little bitch on Twitter over everything while spending his 10mil a year on holidays.

Anyone who can bring accountability to Mojang will be a good thing.

varkson··on Microsoft Near Deal to Buy Minecraft Maker Mojang
lol it's almost like you think they are real programming langauges
varkson··on Microsoft Near Deal to Buy Minecraft Maker Mojang
It won't happen though. The minute that Apple closed off the Mac, with the Mac App Store being the only software source, the minute that idea might have a little credence.
varkson··on Issue #3 – Better Late Than Never
If they can make Vim feel more modern and allow plugins to integrate better, I'd be very very happy to move to this software.
varkson··on The Apple Watch
Why would they waste money on a high tech insulin sensor barely anyone will use?
varkson··on [dead]
Yeah this article is completely awful and was most likely written by someone without any security knowledge whatsoever. Considering the number of victims, all of the possibilities discussed in this article are completely unreasonable.

There's only 2 real possibilities here:

1. iCloud was hacked

2. Someone at Apple can access the data and decided to leak it

I'm leaning towards number 2 myself.

varkson··on Uber's playbook for sabotaging Lyft
So that means that if anyone dies or is seriously injured on their way to a client, the blood is on the client then? Come on now, that doesn't make any real sense.
varkson··on Police Drop Bomb on Radicals' Home in Philadelphia (1985)
So you won't complain if your family are killed in front of you and the police don't do anything? GG dude this is why everyone thinks anarchists and the like are fucking dumb.
varkson··on Linux-on-the-desktop pioneer Munich now considering a switch back to Windows
There has been, like PCLinuxOS. The problem is that it's not just the interface keeping people off GNU/Linux, it's everything else, like software and hardware support.
varkson··on Windows 1.0 and the Applications of Tomorrow (2005)
That sounds painful. Ever since I went to Win 8 my shutdown has been instant. Startup is around 3 seconds.
varkson··on Windows 1.0 and the Applications of Tomorrow (2005)
Chill out dude it's called progress and it's a good thing. The web is fundamentally different now than it ever was and software is very different. If you wanna go back to 19diggedey-two theres always ancient operating systems or GNU/Linux with some oldass WM like Windowmaker or something.
varkson··on Touch+: Make any surface multitouch
I want this but I also wanted the leap motion and got burnt bad. This does seem objectively more useful though. When old mate turns the device towards the projector screen and used it as a touch screen was awesome.
varkson··on The Invisible Interface
I appreciate the point the writer is trying to make, although I wouldn't exactly consider Vim the bastion of usability. It's incredibly expressive though and once you learn a few rules you can wield a whole lot of power. I'd like to see more of this kinda setup in other programs.
varkson··on 404 Simulator
Back in the day there used to be a lot of flash games like this on Newgrounds. Clicking through fake OS's is very nostalgic.
varkson··on The new Google? Baidu's big plans to bust out of China
Having used the Baidu Android software, it's really really nice. I'd love to see a version in English.
varkson··on Why blurring sensitive information is a bad idea (2007)
Going on around '09 it was pretty common to have pornography posted with the same type of swirl or other manipulations. It was a game to undo it, using a particular piece of software.
varkson··on Show HN: Tiny VPSs without exhausting IPv4 addresses
I'm glad you didn't charge OP for that advice.
varkson··on The Developer's Dystopian Future
I just ignore everything dripfeed myself new tech that looks good until I find something I like. Don't everything shown off on HN too seriously, but pay attention.
varkson··on Show HN: Hacker News for mobile devices
Since Y Combinator has been redesigned, I hope they redesign HN and make it responsive and modern.
varkson··on CSS is unnecessary given a layout language
Yawn, just a typical engineer who can't understand CSS. Go back to the dinosaur languages like C and Haskell and leave the web to the smart guys.
varkson··on I'm dreaming of a pocket Macintosh
There are a lot of 8" Windows 8 Tablets that can already do basically this. No wireless display but you could do a docking station that provides power, HDMI and USB, then use bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

I have a Motorola Razr (Android) that can go into an Ubuntu install when hooked up via HDMI. It's very slow and you can't extend it without root but the idea is neat.

varkson··on New Y Combinator Website
So Y Combinator has gone from 1995 to 2007, wow so amazing guiz. Maybe try again and we might get to 2012. Does HN even use CSS? Probably try that next.
varkson··on Why I Left the .NET Framework
I know what you're getting at.

At home I develop with C# and use the debugger all the time. However, I'm a PHP dev at work and we can't connect to our dev server with debuggers. We have all sorts of various tools we built for getting around it, like dumping objects to email and so forth. Although I kinda miss a step debugger at work I've got enough tools to deal with it, even if it's a bit slower sometimes. In other cases it's kinda freeing in a strange way.

varkson··on How to Write 225 Words Per Minute With a Pen
Wait so that wasn't the point of using it? The author mentions custom OCR so I assumed he was using some sort of Gregg OCR solution.
varkson··on Where KDE is Going – Part 1
I find that image specifically to be a bit uninspired, but the other, more complete designs are actually pretty good IMO.

That said, I still like Oxygen, just not the taskbar design. I think they could have iterated on it and got a really really awesome and unique design. In there situation, I'd make the gradients a lot more subtle and smooth then work in more of the idea of lighting into the design. The icons could be abstracted a little more too.

varkson··on Where KDE is Going – Part 1
It's got a lot of promise to be the best looking Linux desktop around. I don't really like the grey they use however; I'd lighten it up. But then you're in trouble of looking like iOS.
varkson··on Surface Pro 3 Review
One of the many reasons I had to switch to IE on my laptop, it just sucked way too much.
