vardump··on EFF is leaving X
I don't use social media at all, unless you count HN as such.

I think the only practical consequence is that EFF loses some fraction of audience.

vardump··on Revision Demoparty 2026: Razor1911 [video]
No, those are the original formats. MOD (Soundtracker [0], Protracker, etc.), IT (Impulse Tracker), XM (FastTracker) and S3M (ScreamTracker 3) are all from the nineties.

[0]: Soundtracker, the tracker that started this all: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Soundtracker

vardump··on Veracrypt project update
Yeah. Otherwise Microsoft purchasing Skype made no sense.
vardump··on Revision Demoparty 2026: Razor1911 [video]
Those are SID etc. tunes. Not chiptunes.
vardump··on Revision Demoparty 2026: Razor1911 [video]
If it's a tracker module of some kind with very short looping samples, then yeah, it's a chiptune.
vardump··on Revision Demoparty 2026: Razor1911 [video]
MIDI songs? I checked, I couldn't find any from the link you posted. Most were different module formats, like XM, Protracker, S3M, Impulse Tracker. Those have nothing to do with midi other than they also produce music.
vardump··on Cambodia unveils statue to honour famous landmine-sniffing rat
Funny how all countries are adjacent to Russia...
vardump··on Bring Back MiniDV with This Raspberry Pi FireWire Hat
Thanks for the reply. Let's hope local models catch up.

Is it possible to accomplish tagging with local AI instead of Gemini?
vardump··on CSS is DOOMed
Tables? Bah. I remember when all of this were image maps instead.
vardump··on Voyager 1 runs on 69 KB of memory and an 8-track tape recorder
Duh, turbo doesn't work in space. Surely you meant High Speed Pascal!

vardump··on People inside Microsoft are fighting to drop mandatory Microsoft Account
That new Windows app didn’t even work for me at all. Could not connect a Windows 10 box for example.

"Why did Windows 7, for a few months, log on slower if you have a solid color background?"

vardump··on Ordered dithering with arbitrary or irregular colour palettes (2023)
Are there other uses remaining for ordered dithering than retro look and perhaps e-ink?
vardump··on Having Kids (2019)
Take a deep breath and just learn whatever you need to learn. AI or otherwise.

You'll be fine. Being responsible for someone else gives you quite a bit of boost.

vardump··on Having Kids (2019)
While there are always those lows, when the kids are sick, scream, have tantrums, do something stupid, I would not trade a second of that away. A lot of happiness and laughs as well, along the way.

They grow and you're privileged to live with them for a while. Also you'll grow with them.

Having kids was my best decision ever. Thrice.

vardump··on Chuck Norris has died
So I guess Chuck Norris has now keys for the Pearly Gates and is the one who gets to pick the heavenly club members. I'm sure roundhouse kicks are somehow part of the process.

Why do I feel like an era has ended...

Rest in peace.

vardump··on Ramtrack.eu – RAM Price Intelligence
Or perhaps Anders Chydenius?

vardump··on Ramtrack.eu – RAM Price Intelligence
Precisely.
vardump··on Ramtrack.eu – RAM Price Intelligence
RAM market havoc is handing Chinese manufacturers an open door. They'll generate enough cash to finally catch up with the big guys.

This is not going to end well for Samsung, Micron and Hynix.

vardump··on Meta’s renewed commitment to jemalloc
I wouldn't be surprised if both 'adsharma' and 'jcalvinowens' were right, just at different points in time, perhaps in a bit different context. Things change.
vardump··on Militaries are scrambling to create their own Starlink
Anything to back that up? Starlink is widely considered profitable.
vardump··on Prefix sums at gigabytes per second with ARM NEON
What's going on with SVE[2] support in the ARM land? It's weird that even Apple's M5 still doesn't support it (other than SME[2]).
vardump··on M5 Max: Chiplets, Thermals, and Performance per Watt
The chip sounds impressive. I wish the M5 Max had 512 GB of RAM.

vardump··on MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
Sigh. Maybe you are right.
vardump··on Arm's Cortex X925: Reaching Desktop Performance
Depends on the processor's store queue. It might be. Of course if otherMethod() is anything more complicated, 'a' will almost certainly be assigned first. Of course you should still do the order dependent assignment correctly, like by using C++ std::memory_order or atomics.
vardump··on MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
Tell me about it. I checked the page thinking whether I should go for 256 GB or 512 GB RAM model.

128 GB maximum.

Sigh.

vardump··on MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
No 256 GB model, so no purchase. What a shame.
