urza··on Google Chrome White Flash Bug – still not fixed after almost 9 years
I was hopeful that it will be fixed in v60 chrome, but it is still there hurting my eyes.

Do you know any other bug that is known and live for this long in sw used by millions of people?

urza··on Open Bazaar – decentralized Bitcoin marketplace
No, what is unfortunate is that we are living in a world where you can be persecuted for handling your own body and mind as you, and not some bureaucrat, see fit. What is unfortunate is that people are put daily in jail for actions where there is no victim. What is unfortunate is that people who create safe environment for drug users to buy clean hihq quality drugs from rated sellers, are serving double life or committing suicides. What is unfortunate is that majority of society thinks like you do.

urza··on Introducing FreeNAS Corral
Is it possible to run Windows 10 as guest in Bhyve? I was planning to build my workstation on Ubuntu as host OS. Running few VMs inside - two windows, two linux and managing my ZFS pool (host os directly)... but if FreeNAS can run Windows VMs, it would be ideal...

I wish there was something like Vimium for Windows 10. I am trying to use hotkeys whenever I can, but some applications are expecting you to use mouse. In such situations I would give gold to be able to quickly select and click elements on screen by keyboard.

urza··on Swiss say goodbye to banking secrecy
If you want to have financial privacy, start learning about cryptocurrencies.

Getting to know bitcoin is obvious, but there are also other kids on the block. Monero is the most successful cryptocurrency that has privacy built in: https://getmonero.org/home

In the medium term no banks in any country will be able to provide you financial privacy.

We're not there yet, bu it is coming.

And as a bonus with cc you get money that cannot be "frozen" because some government says so or money that disappears because your bank/government screws up.

In the future cryptocurrencies will be more real money then fiat currrencies. For some countries this is true alredy today.

These are actually pretty exciting times in cryptocurrency scene.

If you dont know about Monero, check it out. It is starting to catch momentum. It solved the fungibility problem that Bitcoin has, is build on solid base and

urza··on The rise of miniature 'microfactories'
Got my first phone in 1998 - Nokia 5110, since then: Siemens c35i, Nokia 7210, HTC Touch, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 which I use still today.

I never understoon the need to upgrade every year or even every two years, just to have the latest model. I upgrade only when the old one stops working or when new model offers some fundamental improvements like "colorful display" or "android operating system" :)

urza··on TechEmpower Framework Benchmarks Round 13
Honestly I expected better results from asp.net core. Performance was one of their main objectives. It is for sure tremendous improvement over previous asp.net frameworks, but I kind of hoped that I will see them on top 10 or so...

Their best improvement is in serving plaintext where they are 15th among all web frameworks. Hands down, fantastic result. Hopefully we will see similar improvements with more realistic tests-queries.

urza··on Ask HN: Best encrypted messaging app atm?
Yes, desktop client that would sync with mobile would be great. But I dont think their current architecture allows it, it is one device = one account.
urza··on Ask HN: Best encrypted messaging app atm?
As an alternative to Signal, I would also recommend Threema.

Mobile only, paid, end-to-end encrypted with in-person verification. Team and infrastructure is based in Switzerland

Dash (the cryptocurrency) has an iOS app, that has not been approved by Apple[1].. I wonder if it is related because of the name.

urza··on Is democracy a failure? (1861)
Indeed we should be afraid of modern advertisers. They exploit the nature of human mind, to manipulate us into decisions that are often not in our best interest.

Politicians then use advertisers to manipulate masses to ensure power for themselfs.

In my country people in last elections elected an Olygarch, multi billionair, who controls whole agriculture, all main media, medical and other industries and now he is writing laws that suits his needs and stealing billions in "donations" from us. How is this possible? How was he elected in democracy? How is it possible that he has support of majority of people? Because he has very good PR, advertisement and propaganda team.

Anyone who hasnt seen "The Century of Self" documentary, please watch it, it will open your eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ3RzGoQC4s

urza··on Is democracy a failure? (1861)
Fair point, you are of course right.

However I used the word in the way how it is used nowadays by public. I am from Europe and people here will tell you we have "democracies".
