upupupandaway··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2026)
This is very very shady. I feel like doing an investigation on this company.

LinkedIn plot twist: the client IS the wife.

forgot the /s

LinkedIn "honesty" is the new thing now to get engagement.

upupupandaway··on LinkedIn Larpmaxxing
The author did all this to identify the slop posts and yet hasn't learned a thing about B2B sales. What a larper.

Slightly off-topic, but I interviewed at one of the two companies above, plus Bridgewater, and never felt so stupid in my entire life. Real geniuses in some interviews, people who know what they are talking about and have zero need for selling courses or videos. On the other hand, if they _did_ need to sell something, I doubt they would be able to, as charisma was sorely lacking.

As all I had was charisma, alas, I failed.

upupupandaway··on LinkedIn Larpmaxxing
I am finding a niche on LinkedIn by calling out the larping, clichés, fake projects, AI experts, and the general stupidity of the whole thing. Kind of eliminates me from being considered for some positions, as commented by a recruiter.
upupupandaway··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Another great story from Ted Chiang is "Hell is the absence of God"
upupupandaway··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Are you me??????

I read these exact three in the past six weeks. For a follow-up, I recommend "Earthlings" and "The Memory Police".

upupupandaway··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
"The Memory Police", by Yoko Ogawa [1]. An island where things get disappeared by the Memory Police - physically from the world and from people's minds. A few people are immune to forgetting, so the Memory Police is on the case.

upupupandaway··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
I don't think this is the main point (subsidies). ASML sold nothing in Europe because Europe is not a factor in semi manufacturing, primarily due to regulations and bureaucracy.
upupupandaway··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
>And slow moving regulation literally incentivises high capex long-horizon investment.

What?

upupupandaway··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
>construction kicked off in 2019 on a €17 billion new fab development which will double

I think what the OP wanted to highlight is right here: in China or Taiwan etc. this would not have taken 7 years.

upupupandaway··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Hmm don't know if that follows. Hybrid adoption is not a gateway to full EV adoption, especially because the ROI and battery cost are higher (and lower) in P/HEV.
upupupandaway··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Verifiably untrue (at least for the EU): https://www.acea.auto/pc-registrations/new-car-registrations...
upupupandaway··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
1. I have 0 problem with the "for-profit" product if the kids are well-educated. 2. I would challenge the "multiple individualized tutors" claim, as a parent with a kid actually studying there says there is no tutoring, only answering questions on the content or the software being used.
upupupandaway··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
A friend of mine put his kid into a school called Alpha [1]. It has no teachers, only guides (?), who are well paid grads but not formally teachers. Kids go in in the morning, do two hours of computer study with an AI program, and the guide only steps in if the kid has a question or doubt the system cannot answer.

Then there's recess and afternoon is all taken up with "Life Skills" classes such as entrepreneurship and the likes.

Kids are tested weekly and progress through grades at will. For example, his kid would officially be in 3rd grade, but she's doing 3rd reading, 5th grade math, and 4th grade writing. She can easily test 3rd grade topics now.

I am ambiguous about this model. Love the "learn as much as you want" even if it means learning 2, 3 grades ahead, but the no-teacher rule and so much computer use seems a little strange. Also if the kid is not extremely self-motivated, they will be left by the side of the road by the school.

Edit: It's 40k a year.

upupupandaway··on ArXiv receives multiyear commitments to support it as an independent nonprofit
Asking earnestly: is ArXiv a valuable resource? I used it few years back when finishing my (late) Master's, but also saw a lot of crap published there (primarily for promotion/visa purposes) so it kind of took the shine out of the service for me.
upupupandaway··on Grammarly will send unhinged messages to all your users if you try to cancel
I work at a company that we jokingly call a "SaaS Paradise", since nothing is built in house, and when it is, it's crap. All these companies do the same thing with the popups, e-mails, Slack messages (!) warning of cancellation or change of terms. It looks like collective desperation that is just accelerating post-LLM.
upupupandaway··on Jev – A curation of Jev demos on X, tools, skills, and integrations
Don't want to be a conspiracy theorist, but these past two weeks have seen what looks to be a coordinated campaign to boost Jev. Am I out of the loop or is this so revolutionary it warrants getting so much coverage on HN and other professional sites?
upupupandaway··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Reminds me of a message I got on LinkedIn on Memorial Day weekend.

"Memorial Day is an opportunity to slow down and think about the service of those who gave their lives for America and for our freedom.

We offer you freedom from the hassle of hiring your own internal engineering team by providing you with vetted, experience software engineers in the same time zone as your company."

upupupandaway··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
As someone who ran part of their fulfillment network, I say you are completely off the mark here. Their network is the best in the world bar none. In addition to marketplace, 1P, and FBA, there are many other cooperation models where massive companies that appear to have their own distribution centers actually use Amazon's network (even co-located for some warehouses/sort centers).

There is no 3PL or other warehouse companies (many of which use Amazon's anyway) there are better than Amazon. Maybe Walmart gets close. For the case you mentioned (OMS integrations), this absolutely does NOT mean that they handle shipping. The aggressive majority of those vendors just uses FBA anyway.

If you're building your startup on the principle that Amazon is "a sales channel only", then I wish you well but you will fail.

upupupandaway··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
It's pretty incredible that people claim CA was somehow running the world and magically turning elections and brainwashing masses.
upupupandaway··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
>but also in Brazil

Claim: Brainwash was very successful in Brazil. Reality: The government in power for 12 years turned out to be as corrupt as any they had previously criticized, generating a massive institutional crisis.

>What are you actually saying constructively here, if anything at all?

That the vast majority of people that "want reform" actually just want a Supreme Court whose majority always sides with them.

upupupandaway··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
All of these numbers are based on a single source, the Impact Counter dashboard made by a BU professor, which is full of methodological problems. It assumes 100% cessation of funds, for example, while in reality there was a freeze.

Signal is not the most popular/dominant IM even in Signal's HQ. It has 2% global market share. You are extrapolating from your bubble.
