unkeen··on Fixing the Portobello Police Station Clock
I'm confused… You don't want to read about the newest LLM models on the HN front page all day long, every day of the week? SAD!!
unkeen··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
Worse - We all are paying with our planet.
unkeen··on Hilariously Fast Volume Computation with the Divergence Theorem (2018)
Sadly, there is no way to find out, f.ex. by a quick Google search.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
They're called Îles Malouines in French and Islas Malvinas in Spanish, after all.

This is all true. Yet, all I’m hearing is "Water under the bridge! Annexion is just a thing humans do, get over it." and I think that’s too easy to say when you aren’t, for example, of African heritage. I simply believe that there are some historical events that are more inhumane (for the lack of a better word) than others. Where would you draw the line of acceptance if your country were to invaded, traded, or otherwise knocked down under the power of a foreign force? As I stated before: Was it a true (political, economical, defensive, ...) need for Britain to claim Gibraltar or was it great power politics aka greed disguised as such need?
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
We could have stopped right at the moment when ‘need’ was replaced by ‘greed’. I know, illusionary.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
No, I'm just thinking about things on a more abstract level and wonder whether what is taken for granted really is always a given when doing so.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
That may all be true, but you’re talking about voluntary affiliations here.

Colonies are rarely ceded voluntarily, but are usually the result of an invasion or a lost conflict. The fact that this is no longer the case with Gibraltar today, because its inhabitants value the benefits of belonging to Britain, is simply a consequence of the time that has passed since then. It does not automatically undo the imperialist actions of the past.

No hatred was uttered. Just a view of the world you're apparently opposed to.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
So you’re suggesting amnesia and ignoring the fact that Gibraltar wasn’t a blank spot on the map before it was annexed by the British. I think that’s a very one-sided view.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
Well, in theory, they should! :) Imagine a world where expansionist acts of violent injustice could be undone.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
If it belongs to the people who live there, why does Britain have any say in their matters?
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
I was not talking about any of the points you mention, I was refering to the geographical facts alone. Wouldn't you agree that in general it is kind of silly to claim ownership of a piece of land that is far, far away from your own country?
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
I didn't debate that.
unkeen··on New era for Gibraltar with removal of border controls with Spain
From a purely geographical point of view, it is so absurd that there is even a debate about to which land mass Gibraltar "belongs" to. As a colonialist, I would find it very difficult to justify my own behaviour nowadays.
unkeen··on Our Amish Language
Traditionally, it also has the meaning of "Personen von höherem Stand", meaning upper class people.
unkeen··on Our Amish Language
That would be "Höhergestellte" nowadays.

Whilst the world suffers because more and more let's say "not entirely climate-neutral" data centres are being built beause you were to lazy to read an article you mean.

"We live abroad in China, and Greek is one of three languages my kids are learning."
unkeen··on Greek Alphabet Cards
… which heavily involves memorizing foreign letters. English and German mostly share the same alphabet, though, which suggests that the person asking the question hasn’t quite grasped the point. That’s what I was trying to get at in my comment.
unkeen··on Greek Alphabet Cards
This is about memorizing foreign letters.
unkeen··on Happy Map
This isn't a product.
unkeen··on Am I German or Autistic?
The test is supposed to be /fun/. But "completely normal" folks just don't get it, I suppose.
unkeen··on Am I German or Autistic?
Yeah, we all know that. Could it be that you're German or autistic?
