unics··on The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates
In Denver there is a program that supplies hospitals internationally with expired drugs and equipment that would otherwise be without. It's been going on for decades and saved many lives.
unics··on NASA admits it doesn’t have the funding to land humans on Mars
Now this is rumor but I understand that through CERN particles were measured to be travelling faster then light. Just sayin....
unics··on Jobs That Artificial Intelligence Will Create
Trainers tops the list. Seems T800's aren't far behind.
unics··on How Anker is beating Apple and Samsung at their own accessory game
I bought a battery pack that could jump my car let alone charge my phone. I didn't expect much but was impressed with it from the start. Everything was quality made. (My truck doesn't start easily in cold temperatures) Right after I got it I happened by someone on the street in -30 temperatures that ran down their battery. Anker's battery jumped it in less then 10 seconds and the battery was at half charge.
unics··on Google's Nest is disabling some of its customers' old smart-home devices
If I remember correctly Federal regulations require hardware manufacturers to support their product for 7 years after production end.
unics··on Play nice - How the internet is trying to design out toxic behaviour
Censoring the internet, what could go wrong?
unics··on Why Dole owns container ships
Yes! We Have No Bananas.
unics··on Anonymous Divided: Inside the Two Warring Hacktivist Cells Fighting ISIS Online
SAD & USSOCOM, Mossad, CESG probably have a hand in it so why not? Lots of Chefs too few bakers? Confusion is as good sometimes as concerted efforts.
unics··on Can Good Doctors Be Bad for Your Health?
All professions have a focus on their strengths. Second opinions have a way of opening the direction to take.
unics··on The Double Life of John Le Carré
Mee Too.
unics··on Hacking a parking ticket system
The trigger for lights in the states is electromagnetic. A lot of bikes don't produce enough to trigger so placing a magnet on the frame below the bike helps get you through the lights quicker.
unics··on My Year as a Pro-Russia Troll Magnet
I'm having trouble keeping up. I thought the current narrative was "they don't have jobs" and that's why they hate us. Silly me.
unics··on My Year as a Pro-Russia Troll Magnet
The adage that a lie told enough times becomes fact comes to mind. Goebbels was a master and his methods are still being used today.
unics··on Google engineer writing Amazon reviews on USB-C cables that don't work
This is good to know. I just bought my first Anker charger a month ago to be able to start my car if needed and to charge my phone. It came with really nice cables which really pleased me and I've been able to test the charger on a strangers truck that happened to be parked next to me in a parking lot. It did great btw. I just happened to stumble onto it on Amazon and thought I'd give them a shot.
unics··on Kill the laws that keep car dealers in business
Licensing only provides money to a regulatory system. Health inspectors may prevent head lice but word of mouth is still the main way a business gets shut down for shoddy work.
unics··on Cyber Squirrel 1 Disrupting at the highest levels
They are organized and they have bootcamps!

unics··on Pilots who risk their lives flying tiny planes over the Atlantic
I thought after 911 the FAA enforced registered flight plans for all flights cross country, no? At least that's what the general news reported at the time.
unics··on The KGB’s success identifying CIA agents in the field
This proves American Intelligence is an oxymoron.
unics··on Two scientists meeting on a bus leads to discovery in the lab
At the research facility that I worked there were so many talks and lectures from around the world and going around the world to talk I have no idea how they ever get any research done. Maybe it's just the Universities that lack this?
unics··on A Case That Has Microsoft, Apple and Amazon Agreeing
Not to change the subject but why does this sound like Gibson Guitar all over again? National law vs External laws = sovereignty?
unics··on Spraying Magnetic Stripe Cards with Iron Filings
Probably for inventory control so they don't send something out for Fleas when a customer purchased one for Ticks.

Anyone interested in slightly used magnetic bracelets? I don't think my dog will ever forgive me for having him wear them. LOL! ...... ok, just kidding.

unics··on FISA court rules NSA can resume bulk data collection
You make good points to ponder. In this sort of situation I find that looking at the outcome or the end result provides more information towards the intent or competency of the subject questioned. In my opinion the only real reason for a FISA court existence is to prevent civil laws from being broken. Has the FISA court overstepped the constitution in favor of securing our liberty? Has the FISA court been successful in securing privacy for those they serve?
unics··on Some Functional Programmers Are Arrogant
In my humble opinion I suspect that the only fields more arrogant then the computer field are law and health fields. Then of course you can throw in the engineering and political fields. Have I missed anyone.

I seem to be cut from the old hacker mentality that all information should be shared and the collective minds can improve it to perfection. I have increasingly found though a mentality of "ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies".

I guess my being a narcissist isn't what it used to be.

unics··on New electric engine improves safety of light aircraft
Wonderful idea. I do wonder how that changes the center of gravity and how much weight is diminished for cargo but seems well worth it. When the engine goes out you generally only have 10 seconds to decide where to land. Now it seems you have many minutes to find a place. In most circumstances I'd think this is better then the parachutes for planes because you have a chance to save very expensive airplanes.
unics··on IBM System 38 (1984) [pdf]
All I remember on our S/36 were the first chapters of each manual. "How to read this manual". And amazingly, those 20 some pages were needed. At least for me they were.

As far as IPL's I can't remember a more breathtaking moment when I had to IPL the system and it would come up successfully. And the more horrific event when the 10" floppy used to IPL went bad. LOL, good times.......

unics··on Why I Defaulted on My Student Loans
I agree with you. If there ever was a man that epitomizes trustworthy and built a huge business because of his reputation there was RG LeTourneau. Early in his career he went far past expectations and cost him dearly to honor his word in fulfilling a contract. His biography is remarkable if you ever have a chance to read it.
unics··on In Search of the Red Cross' $500M in Haiti Relief
Some good points that I've never considered. It seems some basic needs aren't always food, clothing, shelter in all disasters. Communication is key and clearly lacking in Haiti's case.
unics··on FBI: Companies should help us ‘prevent encryption above all else’
When the US Government stops their encryption of data and makes everything available to the public, then I will agree with them.
unics··on Haunting message penned from Soviet 'slaves' found buried in Urals theatre
I understand that it can be subjective and will assume the writers audience might find the context sensitive. In this case it seems to fit well in my opinion.
unics··on Freightliner Inspiration Truck Unveiled at Hoover Dam
This of course reminds me of the story about a lawsuit Winnebago fought about a guy who activated cruise-control and went back to make a sandwich.

Does anyone else see the possibility of seeing some very strange activities associated with drivers with way too much time on their hands being reported in the near future?

I've seen some pretty wild things going down highways but the possibilities are endless with autopilot.
