I've been coding since I was a little kid, but I didn't start building software professionally until college, back when Javascript loosely equaled Flash and artisanal WordPress blogs were all the rage.

But then one day, Steve Jobs, in one of his LSD-infused power trips, said:

"LET THERE BE NO MORE FLASH ON THE IPHONE!"

Little did we know that would be the end of the creative web; but in my case, I moved on to Ruby on Rails & started building web apps.

Later, JavaScript would rise from the ashes like a goofy-eyed, janky-looking phoenix in the form of Node.js & I've been living mostly in the Wild West of JavaScript ever since.

ulizzle··on It will never be a good time to buy a house
My mortgage is up a thousand bucks due to interest rates. It was a an FHA loan so it made sense at the time
ulizzle··on It will never be a good time to buy a house
Well I didn’t think of it that way. I admit im sentimental about it but it’s not sounding too bad too sell now either

I’m in Austin, so my house went up in value quite a lot.

ulizzle··on A chatbot that can't say anything controversial isn't worth much
Apparently. Without one, everyone ends up making their own.

Take UFOs for instance. Still absolutely no proof whatsoever that they exist but atheists are still obsessed with the topic.

ulizzle··on A chatbot that can't say anything controversial isn't worth much
Funny enough, revenge is something people willingly starve themselves for if need be.
ulizzle··on It will never be a good time to buy a house
I don’t want to sell, I was hoping to be buried in the backyard when I died.
ulizzle··on It will never be a good time to buy a house
I don’t want to, but looks like I’ll have to, interest rates being what they are. I really liked the place, made a nice little garden for the first time in my life

But if yall think selling is a good idea, that’s a good omen

ulizzle··on It will never be a good time to buy a house
Buying a house in 2019 was one of the top 5 worst decisions in my life
ulizzle··on Whisky: Wine supercharged with the power of Apple's game porting toolkit
Port was what I was thinking. Can’t turn wine into whiskey. That’s not only impossible but grounds for a holy war between wine and whiskey aficionados

Plus it goes with the whole gaming port thing

ulizzle··on Napoleon: Two centuries of life after death
In that case the Russians would have scorched Stalingrad, which they didn’t. They didn’t because of the symbolism behind it
ulizzle··on Napoleon: Two centuries of life after death
That’s a good question. No, I wouldn’t. It’s not one of Ridley Scott’s best works. I’d say if you enjoyed kingdom of heaven then you may like it.

I’d rather watch “The Terror” again

ulizzle··on Napoleon: Two centuries of life after death
Watched it yesterday and hated it. I was looking forward to it too based on the trailers but it turned out to be a big hit ahistorical hit piece.

For example, no matter what you think of the guy, Napoleon was a bonafide military genius. In the movie, they made him seem like just one more of the bunch. Napoleon was famous for never being bothered by the gore of battle and the buzzing of billets, in the same vein as general Grant. In the movie they made him seem like a scaredy cat

In “Waterloo” you could see why French soldiers joined his cause in droves. Extreme charisma

ulizzle··on A Light in the Woods
I’m a big fan of point n click adventures.

Graphics are great, so either a talented team or someone very talented, but you have to wade thru 40 mins of exposition before starting the first chapter (you don’t have to but then what about the lore?)

ulizzle··on User read the manual, followed instructions, still couldn't make 'Excel' work
The classic pair programming conundrum.
ulizzle··on Napoleon: Two centuries of life after death
By the way, if anyone likes history flicks, I won’t recommend watching the new Napoleon, unless it’s a pirated hate watch.

The classic “Waterloo” remains undefeated

ulizzle··on Napoleon: Two centuries of life after death
People were willing to die for the revolution and Napoleon. Apparently, self-determination and free will doesn’t apply if you don’t agree with their politics.
ulizzle··on The Dunning-Kruger effect is autocorrelation
It was actually hilarious but I don’t think many people here got the irony
ulizzle··on Reality has a surprising amount of detail (2017)
I actually think it's far better to pair program with ChatGPT instead of another human.
ulizzle··on People who voted for Brexit ‘more likely to be less intelligent’, study claims
This is some seriously brazen propaganda. I'll give them points for courage.
ulizzle··on The bash book to rule them all
What's a good useful difference between .bashrc and .bashprofile? I usually just ignore everything but the rc files.
ulizzle··on Things we always remind ourselves while coding
That's a good description of modern software development. For any junior devs reading, this is the accurate presentation of the reality of software development for the most devs. There are exceptions, but they are either lucky and know it, lucky but with a superiority complex who think they have a monopoly on the truth, NPCs, or the usual gaggle of people who disagree with everything I post here anyway.

Think about it: How can JavaScript have so many innovations, yet practically no one has moved on from the scrum/kanban abomination in going on a decade? Perhaps more. Why

ulizzle··on The $55M saga of a Netflix series nobody will ever see
The biggest sin: bringing up inconvenient truths in public.
ulizzle··on Things we always remind ourselves while coding
Another NPC who thinks they have a monopoly on the truth.
ulizzle··on Things we always remind ourselves while coding
A very long-winded fortune cookie A.I could have written this.
ulizzle··on Things we always remind ourselves while coding
I suppose you do have a monopoly on the truth.
ulizzle··on Things you're allowed to do (2020)
Better yet, things you are NOT allowed to do

For example, people hate realists. About the only taboo left today, besides the supernatural, is being a Debbie Downer

Anyone who isn’t toxically optimistic is considered to be violent and dangerous today

ulizzle··on The $55M saga of a Netflix series nobody will ever see
Granted innocent until proven guilty, but I wouldn’t hedge my bets on anyone from Hollywood being a paragon of moral justice oppressed by the powers that be, unless you want a nasty cut from Occam’s razor later on that week

Especially given the rest of the behavior detailed in the article, which as always, no one ever reads

ulizzle··on Reality has a surprising amount of detail (2017)
Except when it comes to driverless cars & so-called AI. That’s easier done than said, supposedly
ulizzle··on Ex-owners of sex work site Backpage convicted of prostitution scheme
Historical rewriting liberal b.s. The Roman’s stripped you of citizenship if you were in any way involved in prostitution.

Only takes a quick Google search to confirm

ulizzle··on Ex-owners of sex work site Backpage convicted of prostitution scheme
The article says the prosecution argued fervently about child sex trafficking on the site but of course this forum is so sycophanticly politically correct no one read the article itself & just upvoted whatever toes the line
ulizzle··on Things we always remind ourselves while coding
“It’s ok to fail”

Yeah, right. Failing is what gets you fired. Basically it’s a collection of safe, saccharine little pseudo maxims supposed to make everyone feel better

I prefer the poster with the cat hanging on to the branch going “hang in there”
