ujkhsjkdhf234··on 'Starter packs' have played a central role in Bluesky's rapid growth
As I said in another comment, all of these statements are true. Blue Sky blew up very quickly and starter parks were a key part of that. Blue Sky is also losing users which I find to be expected. Threads is quickly gaining users because of network effects. If you have an Instagram account, you have a Threads account.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on 'Starter packs' have played a central role in Bluesky's rapid growth
All of these are true. Bluesky blew up because it was the first large "not Twitter" social media and it has solid communities. Threads has blown past them because of network effects. If you have an instagram account, you have a Threads account just waiting to be activated. It's very easy transition.

The great thing about decentralized social network is that you can easily push to all of those accounts and if I were Bluesky, I would make it easy to link Threads and Mastodon to Bluesky so you can push messages to all 3.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
I come from a small town and know many conservative Christians. They are pushing for this. Like you said, it is easier to blame external sources than to accept you need to do better as parent.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Bypassing Google's big anti-adblock update
No judgement but I would love to hear from Google employees who worked on this. Do they believe they are improving the internet in any way?
ujkhsjkdhf234··on XAI seeks up to $200B valuation in next fundraising
Liar lies news at 11.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Grok 4 Heavy Protects it's System prompt
Elon is paying Telegram an ungodly sum for Telegram to integrate Grok.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
Nothing you single out matters here. His background doesn't invalidate his arguments.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on U.S. abandons hunt for signal of cosmic inflation
Trump just added 4 trillion more in debt funding tax cuts for billionaire. The amount of money science research gets in the US is pennies compared to that. Investments in science always returns on investment in the form of technology. The internet was a research project mind you.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Elon Musk's Grok praises Hitler, shares antisemitic tropes in new posts
All topics that negatively talk about Trump or Elon get flagged. I'll let you come to a conclusion as to why.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Linda Yaccarino is leaving X
Good for her. Got paid a ton of money to be the fall guy and no one ever believed anything that went wrong with the company was her fault. That's a clean getaway in my book. Hopefully she can move on to something that isn't building Nazi chat bots.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Elon Musk's Grok praises Hitler, shares antisemitic tropes in new posts
Isn't this the second time this has happened? Like, happening once is crazy enough but for it to happen twice? There is clearly some tampering happening with people trying to coax it a certain way. I also have to question the people who work at xAI. Are you all on board with Elon's very clear beliefs? Anything for a high enough paycheck?
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Supabase MCP can leak your entire SQL database
No but I'm trying to be optimistic.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Supabase MCP can leak your entire SQL database
The amount of companies that have tried to sell me their MCP in the past month is reaching triple digits and I won't entertain any of it because all of these companies are running on hype and put security second.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on As AI kills search traffic, Google launches Offerwall to boost publisher revenue
It is legally.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on As AI kills search traffic, Google launches Offerwall to boost publisher revenue
I don't really know how publishers fight back in this situation. Big tech took all of their content and art, trained AI, and are now trying to sell it back to them. It's incredibly fucked.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on As AI kills search traffic, Google launches Offerwall to boost publisher revenue
> Evading antitrust norms via vertical integration is not 'competition'. (Apple app store and 30% rent)

This one is competition though. No one is forced to use Apple or develop for Apple. People purchase Apple because they like their products more than the alternatives.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on As AI kills search traffic, Google launches Offerwall to boost publisher revenue
Capitalism and colonialism share a lot of similar traits and are not exclusive. In this case, this is the very definition of colonialism, taking over someone's territory and exploiting their resources. AI is trained on all of these publishers' material without consent and without compensation and then big tech turns around and says pay us if you want a slice of the pie we stole from you.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Lyon Drops Microsoft to Boost Digital Sovereignty
I wouldn't call it a shallow dismissal. If you used Libreoffice you already know the current state of it. It is slow, buggy, way behind in features compared to MS Office and the UI is a mess. If I tried to take Excel away from my co-workers and gave them Libreoffice Calc there would be a riot.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Lyon Drops Microsoft to Boost Digital Sovereignty
Libreoffice is already shit. It works don't get me wrong but the project is far behind where it should be.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on US safety regulators contact Tesla over erratic robotaxis
Regulators about to be fired and decimated by DOGE
ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
The point you're trying to make can equally apply to people simply moving from out of state into your state.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
You've misunderstood my point with mentioning that they pax taxes. If more people are paying taxes then more money should be flowing into these programs, doubly so if more people are using them. If that isn't happening then your problem is with funding.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
I also know people who work in these agencies. I'm not saying these people don't exist. I'm saying these people aren't a "drain" as you put it. They pax taxes towards these programs and pay social security that they can't claim. The problem is happening at a different part of the funnel.

> You need to separate the politicians from the people. There is always someone willing to say anything to get elected. Of course they never really solve the issues, so long as not solving the issue harms their chances of reelection less than solving it does.

This is the fault of the people putting them in those positions and what I mean by getting distracted by false narratives. If you keep voting for the people who fail to solve the issue then this is what you get.

> I've witnessed the degradation of my own states safety net services as they became inundated over the past ~5 yr as a result of federal policy. It wasn't like this under Obama or Bush. I'd happily go back to whatever that was.

I would love to know your state because I can promise your social programs are not degrading because of immigrants and are degrading because of tax cuts to the rich.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
I'm not taking your comment as you blaming Democrats or Republicans. I'm pointing out that the people who are largely anti-immigration are the ones perpetuating the problem and if people want to really solve the problem, we can solve it. You just have to not get distracted by false narratives.

> The average working American in my state can't afford "good" healthcare but we're happy to let these people in sign these people up for state healthcare and benefits (at least in my blue state, perhaps the red states have stringent criteria that makes them ineligible) and doll out millions of dollars of contracts to all sorts of entities that facilitate this process. It's absolutely nonsensical policy. And this is without even examining the effects on supply and demand of labor, cheap housing, etc, which I'm sure aren't great.

You're blaming the wrong people for this. Illegal immigrants are not to blame for shit healthcare and if anything, they make things cheaper for you. No one in your state wants to work farms for less than minimum wage.

> I don't hate the immigrants. They're mostly fine people. But I would enact the most unspeakable horrors upon the people who actively created this situation were I given the opportunity.

The most conservative voices are the ones who hire illegal immigrants under the table including the current POTUS. Illegal immigration is a solvable issue and if you look closely at Texas government you'll see that. You will occasionally get a Republican who puts forth a real solution for illegal immigration and other Texas Republicans tank it because they like to campaign on the issue. You can't campaign on illegal immigrants if you fix the problem.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
That's the point. It's not possible to comply with this so if you upset the administration they have a valid reason to arrest, deport, and ban you because you lied on an immigration form.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
> 2) The vaccine mandates were enforced by having employers fire you for failure to comply with it. It was actually pretty terrible.

When I was a kid, I had to have certain vaccines or I couldn't enroll in elementary school. Is that oppressive in your view?

ujkhsjkdhf234··on US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visas
What problems are you talking about? Be specific.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on AI is ushering in a “tiny team” era
I have worked for many companies and the majority of them are not technically complex. They are drowning in tech debt from when they were in a high growth phase and many of the employees they have are due to needing to handle that debt but the product itself is technically very simple.
