uf··on Evernote is moving all its data, machine learning to Google Cloud
A couple of things I noticed when moving to OneNote:

- OneNote doesn't have tags

- search function is pretty primitive compared to Evernote

- The Webclipper is frustrating: Websites are often clipped as an image. Very frustrating if you actually need to work with the content afterwards.

- ON seems to generate much more traffic on my phone.

- publishing notes with Evernote is much better: You get a public link, etc. Everything looks more polished. Also, when publishing clipped websites you automatically get the link to the source. In ON it just looks bad. (I use Evernote for press articles.)

- Spellchecking is a mess in ON. For some bizarre reason they've decided to set the notes language to your keyboard locale. It is ugly as hell. But there's a macro for OneTastic to reset the locale.

- no Context.

Good things in ON:

- free form canvas

- no more messing your notes up when you work on them cross platform.

- Excel-tables natively supported

- as somebody noted, Evernote is practically a vault where you never touch stuff again. you basically hide everything behind tags. Then you use the search to get only relevant stuff. That's partly due to the UI. In OneNote you organise your notes more "optically" and actually reread stuff.

I introduced ON at work and we now couldn't do without it. I've been using Evernote in privat for several years. Now I'm using both - EN for press and my literature library, ON for everything else.

uf··on The downside of being happy: creativity kindled by sadness
Two thoughts. 1. What is creativity? Keith Johnstone (whom I had the chance to work with) in his work on theater improvisation adds substantially to the definition of 'creativity': A work of creativity does nit need to be 'complicated', 'new' or 'extravagant'. Often the most simple thoughts and actions are 'creative enough'.

2. Is creativity linked to motivation? Motivation and resulting action is U-shaped. While being not motivated at all will result in (nearly) no action, both negative ("sadness", anger, hunger, etc) and positive motivation provide a good basis for getting active. That may explain why being sad 'is better' than feeling overall satisfied. However, positive motivation has a much stronger impact. So instead of forcing yourself to be sad and miserable in order to be creative (and god knows alot of actors exactly do that...), get interested, 'catch fire' like we say in Germany. Results wil be the same or better. And your overall quality of life, too. Just my 2 cent.

Like we all agreed to the metric system already?
uf··on Impossible to get a bank account these days
I haven't thought of that. Thank you for reminding me. You're right: Business account especially for non-residents are pretty unwanted from my experience as well.
uf··on Impossible to get a bank account these days
Well, depends on where you look at. In Germany banks compete over customers offering more and more benefits, like 250 Euro for opening a debit account completely free of charge. Also we have a lot of "account hopping" here - not wanted, but tolerated.
uf··on If too many users are wrong, it's probably your fault (2011)
Being in customer support I often experience the exact opposite. We often do not know how to explain stuff so that really nobody will misunderstand. I've recently summarized this as "everything that can be misunderstood, no matter how remotely, will be misunderstood" even little things like "click this, then click that."

We have an App (of debatable quality) where we made screenshots with big red circles so people know which button to push, as many do not read the button's label.

Sure, I also misread email. Easy enough to say "sorry, my fault" and fix the problem.

EDIT: As this might sound very negative: the whole situation is more like "collective creativity", rather than stupidity. I'm often astonished on how people think and what there reasoning is. Ways of thinking I'd never imagined. And no matter how absurd, there's always some logic reasoning.

uf··on I Have Nonverbal Autism. Here’s What I Want You to Know
Thank you for kind words. I'm not so sure how I can answer your response. I certainly can't interpret your daughters behavior. I'm in no position to do so.

Still, your post has deeply moved me and I feel like I can relate to what you're writing.

So I'll again share my feelings: I often respond similar when being scolded. It really is exciting to feel such a strong emotion. Or I'm simply happy that I made a connection to the outside. People get very irritated by that.

uf··on I Have Nonverbal Autism. Here’s What I Want You to Know
Having Asperger myself and having watched alot of parents I'd like to share a thought.

To me the biggest problem seems to be connecting to the outside world. I've also observed children having trouble with this, as it seems they weren't able to filter relevant stimuli to react on: "Do they speak to me? I don't know.. So I'll continue to wait."

This is a pattern I'm using as well.

However, things I do understand are people reaching out to me very directly with very clear emotions.

Difficult and wrong as it may be, I'd suggest including your daughter directly in conversation as often as possible. She may not understand words, but quite possibly she does understand emotion.

This may at least ease the disconnection she's already observing.
