tzm··on Siri AI
If that Siri orb fails to respond after this release, I'm done with Apple.
tzm··on Local AI needs to be the norm
People want local AI, but only if UX is good. Tooling/harness quality may matter as much as model quality.

I think the future will probably be a hybrid of:

1. local AI for simple, private, everyday tasks

2. online AI for very hard or long tasks

tzm··on Can I disable all data collection from my vehicle?
Does it improve things or break things?
tzm··on Elon Musk admits that Tesla vehicles won't get unsupervised FSD
This is a misleading post, of course they can/will. Elon's comment is referencing a specific a memory bandwidth limitation of HW3 (1/8 memory). The solution is to upgrade to > HW4 as a retrofit.
tzm··on YouTube now world's largest media company, topping Disney
Disney seems played out. Still feels early for YouTube.
tzm··on Zooming UIs in 2026: Prezi, impress.js, and why I built something different
I think zooming is effective when it's used in isolation for discrete things. It does add a sense of delight, but there is a functional usefulness of this that I'm trying to wrap my head around.. perhaps a transition effect for an immersive demo, etc.. nice work.

tzm··on Half of America's Voting Machines Are Now Owned by a MAGA Oligarch
> This is investigative journalism with no bosses, no advertisers, no filters.. just the raw truth about power and those it crushes.

Hard to take this statement serious when all the headlines in this substack echo leftwing bias. At least be intellectually honest about your intent.

tzm··on Dear Tesla Shareholder [pdf]
They're being illogical. Elon doesn't get paid unless the company executes, which he's already succeeded in his prior pay package. Pure irrational thinking. And much of the comments on this post reflect similar idiocy.
tzm··on Dear Tesla Shareholder [pdf]
This letter sounds like it's written by an activist, not an investor.
tzm··on When Your Father Is a Magician, What Do You Believe?
> I became my father’s assistant, carrying props, rehearsing patter, acting as the straight man. But I was also his skeptic. If a trick fooled me, I made it my job to discover how. When he succeeded, I applauded; when I found the secret, I felt the satisfaction of uncovering a law of nature.

I find this beautiful

> My father taught me to vanish before I learned to appear. Science taught me to appear without vanishing — to stand by evidence, to let truth emerge even when it contradicted the spectacle.

Poetic

tzm··on ArkFlow – High-performance Rust stream processing engine
I love the simplicity of this design
tzm··on Show HN: Vidformer – Drop-In Acceleration for Cv2 Video Annotation Scripts
Thanks for sharing / working on tracklab. Would be cool to see VidFormer implemented.
tzm··on Show HN: Txtl – Fast static website of text utilities
great project. Love the simplicity and autodetection. Base64 decode would be a nice mode to add.
tzm··on Show HN: I made a app that uses NFC as a physical switch to block distractions
This is a fantastic way to lock down an app for kids.

tzm··on Show HN: SplitScreen – Create dual-video content for TikTok, YouTube, Reels
As funny (or interesting) as it looks, I have to stop and ask do we really need this type of content vying for attention? Watching these videos feels like TikTok on steroids. I instantly ignore this type of content. It's mind-numbing with little substance.
tzm··on Show HN: Omi – Open-source AI wearable for capturing conversations
Genuinely curious if people think this is a product, solving a real problem? My mind goes to critical privacy rights and would likely require offline use?

tzm··on OpenAI deems its voice cloning tool too risky for general release
Remember when GPT-2 was deemed "too dangerous to release"? Spreading FUD appears to be OpenAI's viral growth strategy.

tzm··on Advances in semiconductors are feeding the AI boom
Cerebras WSE-3 contains 4 trillion transistors and 8 exaflops per sec, 20 PB bandwidth. 62 times the cores of an H100.. 900,000. I wonder if the WSE-3 can compete on price / performance though. Interesting times!
tzm··on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announces new AI chips: ‘We need bigger GPUs’
Platform co seems fitting, considering Nvidia's data center revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023 was a record $18.4 billion, which is 27% higher than the previous quarter and 409% higher than the previous year.

Seems revenue from inference is growing at a significant clip.

tzm··on Show HN: Phospho – Text Analytics for LLM Apps (Posthog for Prompts)
Very cool project with so much potential. Will follow along. Thanks for sharing.
tzm··on Minimal phone gets back to basics with E Ink display and real keyboard
I want this to be a success, but I really can't leave my iPhone. I love the design and simplicity.. just practically, I don't think it will fit my life.
tzm··on Docusign just admitted that they use customer data to train AI
Docusign response:

> Thank you for the feedback. We are updating our AI FAQ to be more clear: We only collect data for training from customers who have given explicit contractual consent as part of their participation in AI Extension for CLM, AI Labs and select beta programs using AI. When we train models using customer data to improve the accuracy of our AI features, we only use data from customers who have given consent, and that is de-identified and anonymized before training occurs.
