tzm··on Sora: Creating video from text
"so far ahead" "leaps and bounds beyond anything out there" "This is insane"

Let's temper the emotions for a second. Sora is great, but it's not ready for prime time. Many people are working on this problem that haven't shared their results yet. The speed of refinement is what's more interesting to me.

tzm··on OpenAI CEO Sam Altman seeks as much as $7 Trillion for new AI chip project
I don't want Sam controlling the industry. His ego would get in the way.
tzm··on Launch HN: Rosebud (YC S19) – Turn game descriptions into browser games
Congrats on the launch. I'd love to import existing characters and assets into the creation process. Is this on the roadmap?

Fast forward to today, it seems journalists are increasingly engaged in activism.

I wish Google would release their Goog-411 phoneme database or donate it to Common Voice.

OAI needs to fundamentally change if Sam goes back. Wholesale change.

tzm··on AI Reduces the World to Stereotypes
Are stereotypes inherently negative or is it in the eye of the beholder? Seems like normalization could also have negative impact.
tzm··on X/Twitter will begin charging new users $1 a year to access key features
I find it ironic that Fortune charges $1 a month to read about X charging for $1 / year access?
tzm··on Elon Musk removes news headlines from displaying on X, formerly Twitter
> Under the new format, posts linking to third-party news stories or websites automatically load those articles’ lead images in preview tiles along with their web domains — but with no headlines, depriving readers of key context from the publishers about their articles, according to a review by The Washington Post on Thursday.

Headlines often lack context, opting for click-bait (like this paywall article).

Can't even read the article without bypassing or subscribing.

tzm··on Twitter / X is losing daily active users. CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed it
Seems there's net gain in DAU considering X significantly purged bots that represented ~5% prior to acquisition. Also X doesn’t primarily use DAU metric anymore as it's easily manipulated. They look at other engagement metrics that are hard for bots to game.
tzm··on Tesla’s new car-building process could be an industrial breakthrough
What type of minor damage would require replacing the castings?
tzm··on Elon Musk has his demons. Walter Isaacson does his best to dissect them

Has or had? The Reuters article opens with: "About a decade ago.."
tzm··on Worldcoin Has Placed Spheres Around the World in an Eye-Scanning Project
Zero trust.
tzm··on Data brokers selling license plate location and analytics data
I always thought collecting license plate data was considered confidential and only be used for law enforcement purposes. Aren't there laws forbidding this?
tzm··on Twitter’s Rebrand to X Could Be a Trademark Nightmare Thanks to Microsoft
Did you mean Dogey product?
tzm··on Google tests A.I. tool that is able to write news articles
I hope Google opens this up to actual journalists who can find and validate facts, then use AI to write long form content.
tzm··on Actors decry 'existential crisis' over AI-generated ‘synthetic’ actors
Could SAG start their own studio, backed by members and community at large?
tzm··on Loneliness is stronger when not alone
Now I'm curious about the psychology of Nike's "Just Do It" slogan.
tzm··on Full Interview: Reddit CEO Steve Huffman Isn’t Backing Down
Huffman has a point. How hard would it be for Apollo to establish their own APIs and hosted infra? Not hard I suspect. For instance they could allow users to cross to both Reddit and Apollo when creating new content, etc.
tzm··on Salesforce could be repositioning itself as a data company
SalesForce repositioned as a data company back in 2010 when they bought data.com (prev Jigsaw).

Is anyone tracking former Telsa employees?
tzm··on OpenAI's ChatGPT plugins may revolutionise the traditional customer journey
ChatGPT is what I always thought Google was going to be. A simple search box that understands intent. When Google first came out, that search box was pioneering.
tzm··on We need a good pre-AI archive of the web

tzm··on Coinbase issued Wells notice by SEC
> "We asked the SEC specifically to identify which assets on our platforms they believe may be securities, and they declined to do so."

Sums up the case quite well.

> Microsoft, told CNBC that DAX Express adheres to the core principles of Microsoft’s responsible A.I. framework, which guides all A.I. investments the company, as well as additional safety measures that Nuance has in place.

This is the first I've heard of Microsoft's responsible AI framework
