tyoung··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2017)
PlanGrid (www.plangrid.com) - Full time - Onsite - Visa - San Francisco

We create a software platform that's similar to GitHub for construction blueprints, and are leading the industry's transformation to the cloud. We easily save enormous ($1B+) building projects worldwide (hospitals, universities, museums, freeways, stadiums, skyscrapers) hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours each through the construction lifecycle so projects are delivered on time and under budget. Backed by Sequoia and GV.

-PlanGrid is a team of 60 construction engineers, software engineers, and ex-rocket scientists, building intuitive, beautiful tablet apps for construction. (Think GitHub for blueprints.)

-We care deeply for our users and stay in touch with them in fun ways. (Site visits, Customer Love monthly 48 hour hackathons, etc)

-Fun perks (all expense paid company trips -- last year was Belize., catered lunches 2x a week, medical/dental/vision with zero contributions & other stuff you'd expect from a thriving Silicon Valley startup)

tyoung··on Founder Stories: Tracy Young of PlanGrid (YC W12)
Thanks for the comment! To clarify, yes blueprints are large. But just like people were happy to give up the inconvenience of fold-up paper maps for google maps, construction folks are almost universally excited to give the inconvenience of cumbersome paper plans for a tablet and an app.

Interestingly, this question is the exact first question PG asked us during our initial YC interview in 2011.

tyoung··on Thoughts on YC's Female Founders Conference
If I wasn't married to my cofounder, I would have the saddest love life.
tyoung··on How to travel around the world for a year (2011)
Beautiful pictures!

My partner and I squeezed in a 10 day Mediterranean cruise during our 3 month backpacking trip. It was a great way to get back on budget (cost about $40/person/day for room and board + 3 meals) and it was pleasantly fun to get dumped at a new port every morning.

tyoung··on How the iPad will change the construction industry
One of our first adopters was Lawrence Berkeley Lab's facilities management team. PlanGrid is for anyone who looks any type of drawings at all, which includes configuration diagrams and technical maintenance data.
tyoung··on How the iPad will change the construction industry
Its funny, that construction personnel have this awful stereotype of ignorance and clumsiness, who will break their ipads at first chance.

We construct your buildings, bridges, water treatment plants in sometimes harsh conditions, but still go home safe to our families everyday. We can also hold onto iPads just like everyone else.

tyoung··on Plangrid (YC W12) Builds A New Market For The iPad: The Construction Industry
3 of us went to school together, 2 of us worked together, 2 of us went to a cello concert, not together. Its one of those tricky GRE math questions.
tyoung··on Plangrid (YC W12) Builds A New Market For The iPad: The Construction Industry
There are tons of very obvious problems in many industries that are solvable by software. The only problem is that great domain experts and great hackers rarely overlap enough to do a startup together. It was a miracle that the four of us found each other.
