tylergetsay··on Show HN: Drop – A rootless Linux sandbox with gVisor support
Does it work within containers?
tylergetsay··on Where has Construction Automation been successful?
Theres less efficiency here than would be thought. Building codes, technologies, materials, styles, needs etc vary a lot by location.
tylergetsay··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
I believe most prepaid visa gift cards are being monetized in this way. https://www.walmartgift.com/AcctMgmt/Controls/WalMartGiftCar...

Ive heard of casinos trying to pay out winnings using some kind of prepaid card, where theyd also get info about how people spent their casino winnings. Lots of ways to leverage that data.

tylergetsay··on Show HN: Copperhead – Cursor for circuit boards
if I needed something on the board that was outside the component library of the assembly house, can I ship it to them? or have them arrange for it somehow? How constrained is the component library?
tylergetsay··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
How well is Laravel doing nowadays?
tylergetsay··on Show HN: Copperhead – Cursor for circuit boards

Presumably they have _some_ assets in the USA
tylergetsay··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down

If I search "healthy" in DoorDash, Taco Bell comes up in the top results
tylergetsay··on Behind the scenes with the Midjourney scanner [video]
The probes they're using are off the shelf probes used everywhere including on small animals, I don't see how you could compare that to a lithotripsy
tylergetsay··on Making Claude a Chemist
Hamilton Morris and his stuff on clandestine chemistry is super interesting in this domain. Sometimes the chemistry is straight forward but access to certain chemicals is hard, so the procedure must change based on what's available not necessarily what's ideal
tylergetsay··on xAI is looking more like a datacentre REIT than a frontier lab
I'd be really interested in seeing your numbers, I've thought about this.

I do feel like there are some use cases which are cost constrained right now, but that area is getting smaller as local models get better.

tylergetsay··on Ask HN: Why hasn't there been a real competitor to Ticketmaster yet?
Everyone involved benefits from Ticketmaster, and in exchange all Ticketmaster has to do is be the bad guy
tylergetsay··on Spotify will start reserving concert tickets for fans
The music industry works the way it does because a large amount of people involved are effectively working for free. Promoters, photographers, DJs, interns, writers, assistants, even some artists early on accept low or unpaid work because the industry offers networking, access, drugs, etc
tylergetsay··on GitHub's Fake Star Economy
I've seen the same devs refuse to use a library because the last commit was 3 months ago, despite the library being extremely popular, battle tested, and existing for 10 years.
tylergetsay··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner
I'm currently paying $800ish a month for digital ocean servers that I know would fit on a single hetzner machine :/
tylergetsay··on We replaced RAG with a virtual filesystem for our AI documentation assistant
I dont understand the additional complexity of mocking bash when they could just provide grep, ls, find, etc tools to the LLM
tylergetsay··on You can't trust the internet anymore
The volumes on the majority of markets are very small
tylergetsay··on Claude Code is being dumbed down?
Claude code is distributed as a minified JS bundle so you cant just easily patch in this functionality
tylergetsay··on Voxtral Transcribe 2
I've been using Parakeet V3 locally and totally ancedotaly this feels more accurate but slightly slower
tylergetsay··on Cloudflare CEO on the Italy fines
Any further reading on this?
tylergetsay··on Cloudflare CEO on the Italy fines
how can the services of cloudflare be easily replaced if I require you to go through cloudflare to access my site?
tylergetsay··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
Its even done in some US territories!
tylergetsay··on URL Pattern API
routing in SPAs
tylergetsay··on Autoland saves King Air, everyone reported safe
It doesn't appear to me to be speech synthesis but rather prerecorded messages
tylergetsay··on Microsoft lowers AI software growth targets
Kinda like https://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/nvidia-dgx-spark.asp...?
tylergetsay··on Anthropic acquires Bun
yes, acquisitions rarely result in an immediate cash payout.
tylergetsay··on Americans no longer see four-year college degrees as worth the cost
some of the students just really don't want to live with their parents anymore. Going to college is the most socially accepted way of doing that.
tylergetsay··on Justice dept. requires RealPage end sharing competitively sensitive information
RealPage was setting the rents not just suggesting them
