tylerdavis··on GitHub Actions and Pages are experiencing degraded availability
They mentioned earlier this year that they were beginning the migration to Azure and that it would take a couple years. I would assume it has more to do with that migration then anything else.

Funny! I made one recently too using piper-tts! https://github.com/tylerdavis/speak-mcp
tylerdavis··on How I'm using Helix editor
The surface area for supply chain attack with Helix is vanishingly small compared to nvim + n extensions. You’re dealing with a single vendor, versus one per extension. Helix also runs a very slow, deliberate release process, so while it’s certainly possible that a supply chain vulnerability could be shipped, the process in place appears to work well to mitigate it.

tylerdavis··on Ask HN: Do you have a profitable side project? How long did it take to achieve?
https://www.soundviz.com

Two and a half years ago I started working on the idea. It took me about a year to get the initial offering done and launched. The first calendar year in business was technically profitable. We ended up reinvesting the profits into new computers as well as paying all of the operational expenses upfront for the following year.

This year, it's tracking at roughly 5x of last year's revenue and we've also improved our margins by about 2x.

All said and done, we both put about an hour a day into it, five days a week, and one full weekend day a month.

I would love to see this with orbital mechanics. As your mass increases, So does your gravitational pull.

This has come up a lot. There's some potential legal implications that have prevented us from pursuing this.

Oh wow. Good to know. Thank you.

Thanks! I definitely think that would make sense.

Unfortunately, we don't have any demos yet, but it's something that has come up, so we're planning on it. Do you have a microphone?

If not, if you sign up, I can create a draft for you so you can play around.

tylerdavis··on Show HN: SoundViz – Your favorite sound as beautiful art
Oh yeah, that would be awesome. Thanks for pointing them out.

You're not wrong. I wanted to focus on one implementation first, given the challenges, but I'd like to go the spectral phase route next.

Chelsea, my partner on this project said the same exact thing about the custom color palettes.

Let me know how it goes tonight!

Thanks for pointing this out. Right now, we're supporting wav and mp3, but I'll be adding a couple things in the very near future - greater support for various file formats, and better error handling for the ones we don't support.

First of all, thank you for the feedback.

Agreed on messaging/processing indicator.

The size of the bars is based on the amplitude of the sound you're processing, so your results will vary, depending on the dynamics of the sound. Have you tried In Rainbows? ;)

Recording - You are correct. I think a count down would also be useful. Currently, the recording starts as soon as you hit the button, which can produce some silence at the beginning of the recording if you're not on it. I like the playback idea a lot, though.

Thanks again!
