tyler_mann··on Code Review as a Service
Conflict of interest is something we take seriously and have processes in place to ensure this doesn't occur. All reviewers aren't able to review or see the reviews from all customers, we have tools in place to facilitate the best matches for both compliance as well as quality and familiarity.
tyler_mann··on Code Review as a Service
Disclaimer, I'm the CTO @ PullRequest.

One thing to note about our service is that we are not trying to replace your code review process if it is already working well and we strongly agree that knowledge transfer is a very important part of code review. ( We actually have code review metrics as well that help encourage and reward your internal code review process. ) However what we do believe and see on a daily basis is degree that we help supplement the process and help catch many issues as well as inject a unique perspective. Our reviewers are all highly qualified, many are maintainers of popular open source projects or work at top tech companies. Our reviewers also gain context over time similar to a new senior engineer on your team. Reviewers also can share notes with each other to build up a corpus of information for your project over time.

Thanks for the comments/viewpoint. This is definitely something that we are looking to address as you mentioned by keeping the same reviewers on the project over time.

Although for teams that have a great reviewer like you mention with context, we think that PullRequest offers an extra set of eyes instead of a full replacement. We hope that we can hopefully save you time and add value by catching all of the mistakes possible up front and leave the architecture up to you.

Thanks for the feedback! I think you are right that we should add more expectations/FAQ section to our website. We expect the feedback to be more of the former, suggestions and comments but still up to the code author to correct and implement. Re: pricing: we are still working out the details of pricing but we believe that we should be able to get quality reviewers at this price. We expect our reviews/custom review client over time to help increase our efficiency to drive costs down.
tyler_mann··on Electron is flash for the desktop (2016)
The electron bundle zipped without any extra app code is only 40MB. This is barely any bigger than the smallest of most iOS that get auto-downloaded to your phone every day. I haven't ever noticed any significant performance hits and I use Slack/Spotify every day. The problem you are speaking to is the same one that comes with any framework that is distributed. Any app using Swift 1.0 had to ship the Swift runtime with the app bundle until they eventually baked it into the OS and allowed sharing framework versions. The same problem happens with JVM if you've ever used a java app on Mac that doesn't use the built-in Java runtime. Its not really a concern to me, as I think this size is negligible and the runtime for Chrome is already the model of isolation so this just extends that slightly further. However I'm sure the Electron folks would be happy if you wanted to contribute to further the performance/usage requirements of the platform.
