twerkmonsta··on Marsha P Johnson: A Chrome extension to highlight trans erasure
How does this help anybody?
twerkmonsta··on Make your electronics tamper-evident
Very cool! This seems almost like physical cryptography. Maybe there is a better term for it, but I’d be very interested in other work along these lines.
twerkmonsta··on Make your electronics tamper-evident
I would love to hear more about the kind of work done by people that need this level of security.

Like is the NSA covering their laptop screws in glitter nail polish? Are covert CIA agents? SOF?

Who needs this level of secrecy that would not have the physical security in place to protect the device in the first place?

twerkmonsta··on Foobar2000
Yeah almost certainly plugin ecosystem

twerkmonsta··on iOS 18 could 'sherlock' $400M in app revenue
Apple can’t create any software as good as Procreate. They’d need to buy them.
twerkmonsta··on Engineer bought prison laptop and 1,200 incarcerated folks lost their devices
They took them away to give them security updates. Non-story.
twerkmonsta··on I Spent a Week with Gemini Pro 1.5–It's Fantastic
Wait, why are people not allowed to change their mind on something? If anything this would make it more explicit and understandable when people did change their mind on something.
twerkmonsta··on Spotube: Open-source Spotify-Youtube client
Started downloading FLAC music after discovering how bad Spotify compression is even at the highest quality. I still subscribe to Spotify for discovery and convenience, but almost never use it.
twerkmonsta··on Will workers hired as Remote all be laid off in next wave?
Yes.
twerkmonsta··on 256TB SSD from Samsung
But practically don’t you reach a threshold where storing that much data on one drive makes it a bottleneck and safety risk until the speed of the surrounding systems catch up?
twerkmonsta··on 256TB SSD from Samsung
Are there actual situations where you would even want this much data on a single drive?
twerkmonsta··on Oliver Stone Releases Trailer for His Pro-Nuclear Energy Movie
Are you sure it’s not because it’s many times more efficient than any other source of electricity “generation”?
twerkmonsta··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
ONO Roller

An elegant little fidget/stress tool that is silent so perfect for use during meetings.

twerkmonsta··on How does Windows decide whether your computer has full Internet access?
Genuinely curious what Microsoft products people actually like? VS code might be the only one I’ve ever heard of.
twerkmonsta··on Ask HN: What search engines are you using?
Yandex feels like google classic.
twerkmonsta··on Notion AI – waiting list signup
Yes, I’ve been using Notion for years, but recently started migrating everything to Obsidian because it feels so much faster.

twerkmonsta··on Vogtle Unit 3 starts nuclear fuel load
Most F-150 owners never tow anything, and if they frequently have the need to tow, they usually go for the F-250 and above.
twerkmonsta··on Aspartame and cancer – new evidence for causation
I know there are natural carcinogens. That wasn’t my question.

Tobacco is a plant. Cigarettes are a product made from tobacco with many “artificial” chemicals added. Cigarettes are the cause.

twerkmonsta··on Aspartame and cancer – new evidence for causation
Aren’t most “artificial” substances more likely to be carcinogenic or toxic than something occurring naturally? Or is that just my wacky personal bias talking?
twerkmonsta··on Bring back menus, QR codes are terrible
Now I have to connect to their wifi before I can see the menu? And the restaurant is expected to maintain a menu server? What is MORE practical about this?
twerkmonsta··on Guido blames social media for his decision to abandon the supervision of Python
No offense to Guido, and I love Python, but the transition from Python 2 to Python 3 is a reference point for me in terms of how NOT to update a programming language. Noone should ever be attacked, but surely someone deserves some criticism.
twerkmonsta··on Not Only Is the Mac Mini Outdated, It's No Longer Mini
Doesn't this all feed into the idea that Apple is ditching x86/x64 and going full ARM?

It would make sense that the Apple TV is so much more powerful considering Apple pours so much into custom ARM chip design and OS development. MacOS doesn't work on ARM, and it doesn't seem like Apple is interested in porting it. Seems more likely the new Mini, if there ever is one, would be ARM based.

twerkmonsta··on Pixel smartphone camera review: At the top
Google Photos is available for iOS as well, so not really a differentiation.
twerkmonsta··on Q&A with Ed Catmull
I used to really look up to Catmull, given all the research he did into early computer graphics, but that wage fixing scandal [1] is just downright disgusting. There is no way to look up to this guy, unless you get turned-on by those kinds of immoral business practices.

twerkmonsta··on There’s Something Fishy About the Other Nefertiti
