twentyfourseven··on Google Launches The Chromecast To Bring Chrome To The Living Room
NSA, US government, tyrants everywhere, watch Google carefully for how it's done. For a fickle crowd like Hacker News, you can seize their liberty and human rights easily - just distract them with shiny new things.

For shiny new toys, some people will rationalize anything ;-)

twentyfourseven··on Snowden asylum still under review, stays in airport for now
This news made my day. The safety of Snowden has been on my mind for weeks. Hopefully he'll make it all the way to sunny Bolivia.
twentyfourseven··on Why Doesn't Skype Include Stronger Protections Against Eavesdropping?
Why doesn't Skype have a phone number? They don't, and they're in the business of phone calling.
twentyfourseven··on Show HN: HireMyFriend – Get your friends to help you find a new job
Twitter is a lot better than Facebook IMO, and a Twitter account is easy to set up and easy to delete.
twentyfourseven··on SkyDrive in Windows 8.1: Cloud storage the way it’s meant to be
Serious, snark-free question: is this a paid review by Microsoft? I've never been an Arstechnica reader but I thought they had more integrity than this.

Talking up SkyDrive is like extolling the virtues of ivory from elephant tusks. In both cases there is a horrible hidden cost.

twentyfourseven··on Why We Can No Longer Trust Microsoft
Let's boycott the hell out of Microsoft. They gleefully sold out their users to the NSA.
twentyfourseven··on Why We Can No Longer Trust Microsoft
Exactly. Microsoft were making a comeback and I moved my email and online storage from Google to Microsoft. Now I feel back-stabbed.

I don't use the hate word often, but I HATE Microsoft now.

Just for the record, I think Dvorack is bang on with this article. Couldn't agree more.

twentyfourseven··on Show HN: I've been learning PHP. My first tool finds your competitors' backlinks
Do you own the SERPs.com domain name?
twentyfourseven··on Don't be evil: Moving everything off of Google
There's something sketchy about Jottacloud. I don't trust it. I installed the client a few weeks ago and it wouldn't upload my files. The program just froze. When I tried to uninstall the software it hung again (I had to manually delete it).

It's still in my start menu somehow, although I disabled it. And this is happening to a guy who religiously scans and cleans his Windows partition.

I recommend everyone stay away.

twentyfourseven··on Militarized police overreach — a second excerpt from Radley Balko's book
Omnipresent surveillance, more prisons, secret courts and the militarization of the police - Obama's presidency looks like a reign of terror.
twentyfourseven··on DuckDuckGo Direct queries per day (28 day average)
I didn't think I could ever get off the Google habit, but I for one welcome our new DDG overlord! I use it for 100 percent of my searches now.

Data point: unlike some, I love the name and branding.
