twaw··on Boeing wants FAA to exempt MAX 7 from safety rules to get it in the air
You can lookup "autopilot" definition in a dictionary
twaw··on Using Make – writing less Makefile
In my editor, tabs are shown with reddish background, so they cannot be mismatched with spaces. Fix your editor.
twaw··on Using Make – writing less Makefile
Yeah, use make -j8 instead.
twaw··on Implementing a Minesweeper clone for the Gameboy Advance
You can rewrite the code and add a "Russian mode", when a cleared area will be remined again after a random period of time.
twaw··on Ask HN: How do you trust that your personal machine is not compromised?
Why not? It still possible to communicate securely using compromised devices and networks.
twaw··on The energy crisis and Europe’s astonishing luck
Yeah, let's ruin our diplomatic relationships with Germany and Moldova, then try to join EU and NATO.

Why we need to try exchange Transnistria for Konigsberg in the first place?

twaw··on Ask HN: Why No Tech Company Hires?
It's because of war. War destroys value.
twaw··on A tale of two particles: Not all radioactivity is risky or harmful
Did you realise that Chornobyl will not be rebuilt in our lifetime?

Nuclear weapon is not equal to nuclear reactor. If Russians will blow up Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, most of the people will be evacuated, but radiation will poison land and sea for hundreds or thousands of year.

twaw··on A tale of two particles: Not all radioactivity is risky or harmful
Emm, these people are killed by cancer, every year. Unless we will find cure for cancer very soon, Chornobyl kills dozens of thousands per year right now.
twaw··on A tale of two particles: Not all radioactivity is risky or harmful
Did you read about Red Forest near to Chornobyl? A nuclear station has enough material for a continent-wide Red Forest. Luckily, Chornobyl accident was steam explosion, not a nuclear explosion, so very small portion of nuclear fuel was leaked.
twaw··on Nord Stream leaks confirmed as sabotage, Sweden says
Determined by what?
twaw··on Nord Stream leaks confirmed as sabotage, Sweden says
Ukraine can use a EU court to confiscate NS, so it better for RF to damage it own property to avoid that.
twaw··on The near future of AI is action-driven
AI should be watched by a AI critic (or a AI guard), which goal is to detect harmful, dangerous, stupid, surprising behavior and raise alarm.

For example, image generators are watched for NSFW content by a separate AI critic.

twaw··on Ask HN: How to deal with my team speaking a different language?
They are doing the job for the fraction of US salary. They know their native market very well. What problem you are seeing there?
twaw··on GitHub Copilot, with “public code” blocked, emits my copyrighted code
Any code is proprietary by default. GNU GPL license lifts some restrictions, in excange of more code, but it doesnt work when license is broken. Look at cases about GPL violation.

Copiloot doesn't obey GPL license, so they need to obtain written permission and pay license fees to be able to use code in their product.

twaw··on GitHub Copilot, with “public code” blocked, emits my copyrighted code
Open source code is open source when it license is obeyed only. When license is not obeyed, e.g. copyright notice is no reproduced, it should be treated as private code, except for dual-licensed code.
twaw··on 4th Gen KDE Slimbook – Linux Ultrabook with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U
I have HP Chrome 13" with 4k IPS. I love it. But it has one bright pixel now.
twaw··on Windows Terminal Source Code
M$ is long time GPL hater. They use lot of GPL code, but stil hate it, because they cannot make profit from it. Commercial companies like BSD-style licenses, because they are free as in "free work".
twaw··on The phones of Ukrainian president Zelensky
This information can be deducted. It's an easy job for a former intelligence officer. For example, in my battalion no one knows English language except me, so any intelligence in English language must be translated and reviewed first by a native Ukrainian. Together with time shift and night time, this creates 12-18 hour lag.

Moreover, Ukrainians know Russian tactics, language, technical capabilities, or even know them in person. We also have relatives in RF, which can text us when rockets are launched, for example.

USA intelligence is not important at this stage of war, when everything changes every few hours.

twaw··on The phones of Ukrainian president Zelensky
Whole Continuous Improvment process is devoted for such changes. Just follow the process. 5 why's, 3 alternatives, trials, statistically significant statistic, etc.
twaw··on The phones of Ukrainian president Zelensky
USA shares their intelligence with significant delay. Moreover, language barrier (Russian to English, English to Ukrainian) doesn't help. An Ukrainian woman can report more and faster directly to Ukrainian army.
twaw··on On the Weaponisation of Open Source
RF kills people for any or no reason. Why you worry about that? If you think that when you don't attack RF, then they don't attack you, you are wrong. You are member of rotten West, your country is a member of evil NATO, you are speaking non-russian language, and you are spreading anti-russian propaganda. You are danger to Russian Civilization. They will kill you, but their ressources are limited, so stay in line.
twaw··on I’m not convinced by the new lab leak debunking
World is interconnected a lot right now by planes. For example, Novosibirsk is low populated area in the middle if nowhere, but it just 2 hours by plane to heavily populated China. BSL4 Lab Vector was created in relatively safe area, but now it is not safe anymore. The blast in Vector lab on Sep 16 2019 took immediate attention of scientific world, because blast is able to put virus particles into air from hidden surfaces, which cannot be cleaned properly. Scintists recommended to put Novosibirsk into carantine for 2 weeks at least, but Russians ignored that.
twaw··on BBC resurrects shortwave broadcasts as Russia blocks news of Ukraine invasion
Ukrainians installed webcams at polling station on previous election, for transparency. When war started, they were still installed. We watched fake referendum in Crimea in real time on site. I personally saw about 3-5 voters per hour on most polling stations, except for stations where Russian tv was: they were full. Moreover, anybody was able to vote, including Russian tourists.

Also, you need to know that Russians are not natives in Crimea. By UN standard, natives are those people, who live in place for 200 years.

Russians expelled native Crimeans from Crimea to Ukraine, to substitute Ukrainians died during genocide, and to Siberia.

They used situation with Crimean Goths as excuse, because Germans used Crimean Goths as translators.

After expelling of natives, Crimean land was used as prize for soviet officers. They had no experience of agriculture in dry climate, so they cut vines and tried to farm potatoes, which caused famine. Also, Crimea was cut from RF, so RF was unable to help.

To fix situation, Crimea was returned back to Ukraine, to rebuild economy, because Ukrainians knows Crimea climate for more than millenia and Crimea was part of Ukraine since breakup of Russian Empire. However, Russians portait this return of Crimea as gift to Ukraine and want to stole it back.

twaw··on Last Day of IKEA in Moscow
Typical liberal democracy has 2 modes of work: peace time and war time.

In time of peace, value of human life is infinite, thus fredom of someone ends where freedom of somewhere else starts. Nobody can cut basic freedoms of someone else without court decision.

In time of war, this freedom creates vulnerability, so modern democraties have utalitarian laws designed to maximise survivability of nation as whole instead. It's not so important for behemoths, but it's essential for smaller countries. However, even in large and powerful democraties there are loopholes around basic freedoms for desperate times, such as natural disaster, or assault, or war, etc.

For example, it's not allowed to shut somebody else, except when defending or to save life of someone else. It's not allowed to force somebody else to keep silence, except when it puts lifes of others in danger, such as hate speech, or division by race, color of skin, nationality, religion, income, etc.

Russian outlets are doing just that. They are trying to portrait other nations as evils. They are telling to Ukrainians that Jews are rulling our country (half truth, many politics in Ukraine are Jews), then they tell to Jews that Ukrainians are Nazi, to induce fighting between nationalities, to start civil war.

This creates danger for everybody, so we cried for years to shut down Russian propaganda. Nobody listened to us until today.

twaw··on Fire extinguished at Ukraine nuclear power plant, Europe's largest
It looks like you are using salami tactics. Salami tactics works in both ways.

You say that nobody will went crazy when a tactic nuke will be used against RF army. Right?

Can you draw the line, please? When this war between two nuclear states will be nuclear, if even use of tactical nuke is not enough for you?

twaw··on Fire extinguished at Ukraine nuclear power plant, Europe's largest
Operators of nuclear plant are civilians. They are not part of force. Civilians can be captured, they cannot surrender, because nobody asks them to do that. I never heard that police or army asks somebody unarmed to surrender.
